I've always had mixed luck with Parcelforce/USPS. I got an ipad (for the wife - I'm not that into it) on ebay and the seller used Fedex. It sailed through customs (marked as gift) and even though sent as economy took less than a week to arrive (not counting volcanic ash interruptions...). Was actually a pretty good deal I think - $700 for the 32GB model with shipping thrown in. I always avoid USPS/Parcelforce if I can help it. They're much more zealous, even on low value items.

Yay, I can help you here :D...

My iPad was sent on the 15th via USPS priority mail international and parcelforce 48 when it reaches the UK.

It was delayed because of the UK air closure (thanks Iceland :p). Mine was left at 'Left Origin Country' for a while. Around 2 weeks later it arrived in the UK! It is currently in the Perth Depot where I can pay customs and pick it up on Tuesday.

Don't worry. Your item isn't lost. USPS tracking is very slow and inaccurate so I would just use Parcelforce tracking as it is very accurate and updates instantly. Your iPad will arrive in the UK in a few days (well, it should).

This is how my tracking with Parcelforce looks:

Hope I helped.

Thank you all for your optimism. I have set back my disappointment by a week and hopefully by that time, I will have some news! If not, then I guess I'll get a refund, at which point I could buy one in the UK anyway! I guess that could be a win-win.

.I'M GOING INSANE, I NEED MY IPAD NOW

Hang on in there. It's worth the wait, believe me.

I'm posting on mine at the moment using the Apple wireless keyboard (which works perfectly) and it's a dream.

I've had it for almost two weeks now and it has been difficult to put down.

You'll all have yours before you know it! :)

I'd be surprised if they don't, but there again I never cease to be amazed by certain things.

Why don't you try to get their phone number and give them a call?

Either way, you should have your iPad in the next few days! :)

I'm a postie and we're not working today so I'd be surprised if they were.

thanks i phoned them several times last week my ipad has been held up in customs. i faxed the paperwork they required paypal invoice on tuesday and they said i would it would be released within 24 hours. have phoned different departments since all last week and the hold up now seems to be with parcel force. guess i will just have to be patient. :(

How much does it cost to send what with Parcelforce? From where and to where? For pricing info, take a look at www.parcelforce.co.uk

I'd be surprised if sending an international parcel from the UK using FedEx would be cheaper than ParcelForce but you'd get better tracking for your money at the very least...

Sorry, I meant how much does it cost to send an iPad from the US to the UK with parcelforce? It's just that there's so many complaints with how slow they are, surely they must be VERY cheap for people to go with them? Like I say, it cost me $40 with FedEx, sent on Friday, and it's due tomorrow. Some people have been waiting 2 weeks+ with Parcelforce!

Answers:

1. Yes you can use the Vodafone PAYG data SIMs in your iPhone as long as;

a) your iphone is sim unlocked
and
b) you have set the correct APN settings in your iPhone's settings menu

2. Subsequent top-ups for Vodafone Mobile Broadband PAYG have no expiry.

I find this Vodafone PAYG mobile broadband offering to be among the most expensive data rates - BUT - in the long term if you're just looking for light use it's actually cheaper as ALL of the other mobile networks (AFAIK) expire your unused data allowance after 30 days from the date of topping up.

Ok - iphone 2g unlocked, check.
APN settings ? Will look for those.

Thanks for the heads up. Will be buying it now, now. ;)

Countdown has begun... One week to go for prices etc. I'm still predicting £417 for 16GB model. But if it's cheaper, I won't complain. :p

Im going to have to unsubscribe from this thread. I was quite happy waiting to play with one before i made a decision to buy or not. After reading this thread for last few weeks though the feeling of wanting one now has grew and grew :p

For those who have ordered and received them from the US can i ask how good safari is on the device on wifi connection. I have watched the video of steve playing with one but i was after real user reaction. I was going to get MacBook air but they haven't updated it in so long. Might get a cheap mini and an ipad instead.

And as for UK pricing, well if it is unbelievably low then i may just pick one up for my birthday (end of may) :D

It's fantastic. Really, really great browsing experience. It is not slow or choppy at all, though there is occasional checker-boarding on very heavy pages while it is still loading. A very smooth experience though, with very quick rendering. Tabs could do with some work (in my opinion should be a permanent replacement for the bookmarks bar), but aside from that there are no problems. Hopefully in the next version they sort out the long-term issue with bold lines sometimes happening under hyperlinks for no apparent reason (has been there since OS 1.x). :)

Completely agree with the above, safari is great on the iPad but also would prefer tabbed browsing.

Sorry but for one, FedEX is NOT $40 for an IPad it is actually closer to $100, and you will most likley NOT get it tomorrow as it is a Bank Holiday today.

Wed May 5, 2010 6:00 PM FedEx International Priority® 125.29
Fri May 7, 2010 6:00 PM FedEx International Economy® 119.92

Keep lieing and acting like a Jackass all you like, FedEX IS expensive. you did not pay $40 for a 3.1 pound item to be shipped to uk , no way no how. Not with Fedex you didnt

Can't be bothered to check, but have any good indications of UK price appeared? If it's £400, I may be inclined to pick one up, especially with it now being jailbroken.

Correct. My iPad for send on Friday and it cost £130 for their International Priority service. However, it is still estimated for delivery tomorrow according to their tracking service.
