How long does pre-order stock usually last until it's sold out?

about 2 minutes before you order! :p

well it really depends on how many people order them and how much stock they are allocating for it..

I suspect they'll continue to take pre-orders through out the day, and then later will change some peoples as having a latter ship date. Though if you think about it they do have a month to build and shipment so maybe they will be able to fulfil them all.

My advice... get in quick!

Really?

Wasn't it about 2 weeks into pre-ordering in the US before they started pushing shipping dates back?

I seriously wouldn't expect pre-orders to be filled within 24 hours in the UK, given that it's a new product launch and there are 6 different models available..

but it's not just the UK... there are 9 countries where it's going to be launched tomorrow.

Yep, and stock will be allocated accordingly to meet expected demand. Or as close to expected demand as possible.

The delay 'til the end of May is for this exact reason. Apple wouldn't start the worldwide launch if their stock levels only had a days worth of pre-ordering to fit into each of the 9 countries..

EDIT: There's also 3 weeks between pre-orders and launch date for Apple to monitor pre-orders and demand, and gauge how that fits in with there production. If with a week/10 days to go Apple have got an uphill battle to meet their pre-order numbers, then they'll either put a stop on pre-orders or announce a date from which any orders taken will be shipped late. Similar to the US launch.

That's not going to happen within a day. Even if people flood to pre-order en masse tomorow and take Apple by surprise, they have 3 weeks to get the stock together to meet that demand and probably still continue taking pre-orders.

wow!!! is it good???

Yes it's awesome. It's heavier than I expected but still it's a wonderful (or should that be magical?) device. I'm very happy with it. No YouTube video or review article can do it justice.

My bro wants one now too so I'll still be able to get involved with the launch day madness :D

And it'll be even better when iBooks and the like are available on the 28th

Also don't forget that as well as supplying to the new countries on May 28th, the output still has to meet the ongoing demand in the US.... So I definitely think that preorders (at least those that will ship on May 28th) will be quite limited. It certainly won't be a case of "I think I'll casually log on to the Apple Store at 10pm and preorder me one of those iPad things".

I agree while apple will have started to stockpile units they are still struggling to meet the demand for the US customers so just imagine how much they need to increase production to cover a rush in all the other 9 countries.

They will have a good three weeks to build units for release Day so they do have time but I think if there are a large number of order it will be hard for them.

In away I hope it is hard for them. It will show what a success they have on their hands. But as someone else points out with the rush in this quarter it needs the next will be a little slower and may not show growth.

I do agree with that. As an iPad early adapter (or at least, prospective early iPad adapter!) the more successful the device is and the quicker it becomes an established product, the better.

I'll be refreshing the Apple store all day tomorrow anyway. I just hope the iPhones browser will let me fill out all the necessary details without having a compatibility dicky fit!

I presume theres no way I can pre order in Southern Ireland for collection in Belfast store, or is there?

You'd have to order via the UK Apple store, and I presume that will require a UK credit card rather than an Irish one.

Isn't Ireland getting the iPad at the same time as the UK?

Did you ask this because:

1. You were bored
2. The stores are closed and you can't call and ask them
3. You don't have a telephone

Seriously, did you think this through before you hit the submit button?

By the way, it was not a knock against you but only the Apple store can answer these questions. Put them to work and make them give you the answers you need dude.

No, Southerners are banned from the Belfast Apple store!!!11!!

At least until I have safely secrured
mine. j/king. :p

No we're not getting the iPad until end of July. Seems a bit daft as I live only an hours drive from Belfast.

July? Hmm. Do you have any friends in Northern Ireland that you could tap to order?

I guess that, or just try your luck at the end of May. The store will have SOME limited stock, I would imagine (probably only 1-2 per day to start with).
