I hope you can get one pretty quickly then, as it would suck to be using it without a case if you're needing one. I've decided to go caseless when using it, but I've got a Belkin sleeve thing to keep it safe when I travel and when it isn't in use. I'll see how it goes. If it turns out I really need a case to prop it into different positions, then I might get the MacAlly one. But I think will need to really use it for a while before I know if it's required, for me at least.

Does anyone know if I can pre-order and then collect in store on release day ?

I did ask apple and they said this

As with the US launch we expect all pre orders placed to deliver to your door the same day of the retail release. So you don't need to stand in line. You can reserve a spot during pre order at the apple.com

Thanks

If it's same as the 3GS launch, and I don't see why not. The you can elect to collect at the store in person.

Since the home delivery arrives on release day... What's the appeal of getting it from the actual store? Is it just for the experience? Or is there an actual advantage? It seems everyone wants to pick it up in store, but since that doesn't actually get you it days earlier or anything, I don't get why you wouldn't want to have it delivered right to your door on the same day that everyone else gets it. Hell, stay in your pyjamas. And if you aren't pyjama-inclined, please remember to pull something around you when the nice courier guy/girl turns up at the door.

For me I know my luck, I'll probably be indoors all day waiting for the damn thing. At least with going to the store I could be there and back home relatively quickly.

Just read through a few pages. When we pre-order Monday, and Apple do the authorisation, what happens if I've not got the money in the bank? Want a 64gb, don't get paid til the 18th. Will Apple accept the order?

yeah I doubt it... your card will likely be refused by the bank...Unless you have an overdraft or are allowed to go overdrawn.. Most banks "love" you to go over drawn for a short time, that way they get to "steal" your money legally!

You may be able to reserve one though, like the Americans did and just pick it up and pay for it on the day.

do you think theyll hold them to saturday for us who cant make it on launch day??

whos actually gonna check at midnight tonight?? i may just incase, knowing my luck when the mrs checks itll all be sold out :D

i bet the case and the ipad will be in well short supply

How long will they hold reserves for in the store? I can't go there until around 4-5PM the same day and I'm worried that they'll sell off my reserve. Anyone help?

I'm going to check at midnight tonight as I can't seem to find out what time pre orders will start. Do we know what time pre orders started online in the US ?

Apologies if this has already been asked/answered, if I reserve online tomorrow, will I have to pay in full tomorrow or on collection from the store on the 28th?

Thanks.

You won't have to pay then and there but they will most likely not accept your order in the first place.

I went to pay in at the bank yesterday to make sure I had enough

To answer the question several people just asked, I believe that in the US that "reserve for collection" orders for instore pickup on release day had a deadline of 3pm along with a special queue. After 3pm, all iPads which had been reserved but not picked up were sold on a first-come, first-served basis.

I doubt you will be able to reserve. You will be able to pre-order with suitable credit/debit card. They get an authorisation for the amount but don't actually take the cash until sent or collected. So if you don't have funds there when you try to pre-order chances are it will fail.
