Read the fineprint. Looks to me you lose the credit if you payoff the device immediately.
I did read the terms at checkout and it specifically said that the device can be paid off early any time before the last payment is due. I won't be paying the extra $150 if I pay if off early.
*Eligibility refers to having a qualifying line of service.

That's good then. For the iPhone, you lost the credit if you pay the device off early.

When I had the iPhone X through them, I don't recall there being a promotion. I went through the Apple store with my Max. I hope the mini isn't going to be locked to Verizon after it is paid in full. I forgot to ask the online rep, right before I placed the order.

I don't think there were promos like that for the iPhone X. It was the iPhone 7 I got via promo ($650 credit divided by 24 months with iPhone 6 trade-in).

Unless their policy changed recently, none of the iPads are locked to carrier. I've gotten an iPad 4, iPad Pro 9.7 and iPad Pro 12.9 2nd gen through carrier (both AT&T and Verizon) and none of them were locked (tested with a T-Mobile Nano-SIM on a $10/5GB/5 months plan).

Mine shipped this morning with a 4/2 arrival time. I ordered on day one and hoped it might be early. The last UPS location was in transit at EPZ, China 03/27/2019 7:14 P.M.

I haven't received any additional updates since.

No, you do not. The device payment plan is for 24 months and you can pay it off early at any time. Same kind of payment plan as their phone plan, for those who do that. I will pay it off after a month.

I already have service with Verizon. The cost for unlimited iPad is $20 a month plus tax, tag and title.

That's actually reasonable. I remember when it was $15 for 1 GB.

That’s if you have an unlimited phone plan already, though? I like that price but I get better AT&T service at our camp so my iPP 11 is running the AT&T $30/month unlimited plan. By doing that, most of the time I’m fine with 2G or 4G data for two phones, a Jetpack hotspot, and a cellular trail camera.

Correct. The $20 is if you already have an unlimited plan.

I don't expect to be using 20+GB on the mini each month. At the same time, it is worth the extra cost not to have to worry about using up my phone battery tethering to the mini.

Finally got a chance to try out the speakers. It is quite a bit louder than the Mini 2. One thing that I noticed is that on max volume, I can feel the device vibrating which isn't something that I've experienced with the Mini 2.

If you sign a 2 year contact it’s $250 off. That’s what I did since I have Verizon and planned on getting cellular anyway.

I remember the outcry over the vibration with the original iPad Air (I believe). I had one then and it was a bit weird holding the device as it vibrated. I haven't had an iPad in years and have never had a mini so, it will be interesting to see if the vibration will bother me.

I suppose that is a good deal for those who plan to stay with Verizon. When it comes to cellular companies, you never know what they are going to do tomorrow. That is why I chose not to get locked to Verizon, even though they have been satisfactory thus far.

Hey all, got my Mini 5 delivered today. Many have been asking about how cases from the Mini 4 fit, so I popped on the Mini 4's Khomo case (popular cheap Amazon choice) and took some pictures.

As you can see, the biggest two issues are: 1) The volume up button overlaps with the case body and is partially pressed (but isn't fully pressed, making it currently use-able), and 2) The microphone holes are now completed covered up, having been relocated to the middle back of the body. The camera alignment also isn't great.

The rest fits perfectly, as you would expect. Companies should be able to quickly re-configure their existing molds and put out new cases soon. This will work in the meantime (just can't use the microphones):

Thanks for taking the time to post. It’s probably a pretty safe bet that the Apple silicone case won’t work because of the volume buttons. That’s disappointing but larger volume buttons are good.

I just had a look on Amazon for cases - there are some but no reviews. I like the Supcase stuff so will wait to see if they make a case with a built-in stand. I wouldn't mind a keyboard case either but I don't know if there's enough Mini volume for a few products.

I received my mini 5 today but disappointed with the screen unevenness. Very reddish on the whole top right.

Does the Mini 5 still have the mute switch? Just wondered while seeing the cut out on the Mini 4 case in the picture above.

Not that I recall seeing. I was quick to put on my Apple case so I could have missed it.

Edited to add: Just did a speed test for those interested.

Wifi Down 454 Up 660

Cellular Verizon Down 25.7 Up 0.84 Second test with different server Down 25.8 Up 0.65. I don't always have the best signal in places in the house.

Any iPad Mini 5 orders shipped yet? Mine has moved to “Preparing to ship” with a 4/2-4/5 delivery estimate.

My Best Buy order is still sitting on “In Process, will ship by 3/29.”

Just set my iPad mini 5 up, golly, I forgot how much I loved that size and weight. I couldn’t see any major screen problems (just a little more lightbleed on the bottom left corner) but that’s normal with Apple’s original Retina Displays, every iPad except the new Liquid Retina Pros had some lightbleed somewhere. *Also, it’s only noticed barely when I test the screen with a pitch black image, no bleed can be seen with regular white or bright backgrounds. *knock on wood it stays that way.

Here come the nit pickers.
