That can result at people showing up at my store first thing in the morning to try to score one.

It’s possible but the iPad mini doesn’t generate the enthusiasm like the iPhone does. I am not sure historically how many iPad minis have been sold compared to other iPads or iPhones but I assume it’s not very high. Otherwise they wouldn’t have taken four years to upgrade it.

I don't think that any iPad since the first has resulted in long line ups outside of stores.

In my opinion, a VERY lazy and conservative update.

Apple spent millions developing those improvements to create two iPad tiers, pro and consumer. They can:

1) throw that plan and investment out the window and return to one tier

2) make pro features standard and spend millions more making new improvements

3) include those features in a mini pro

Which would you do if you were Tim ?

Somebody in another thread stated the iPad mini 5 will be available to buy at stores on Tuesday... anyone think there's any truth to that? lol... hmmm

I preordered from Best Buy. The website clearly says Friday the 29...however checking status shows this:

Pickup available on Release Date: Tue, March 26.

However I am not expecting it until Friday and feel they are just floating these dates about. It probably in my case depends on when they get shipment, sometime by Friday.

We were told by Apple store employee that it’ll be Friday. Who knows.

Both my order status and BB website still says Friday 3/29.

the reason for having tiers is to cater to different consumer needs. i have an ipad mini, and i will never consider a ipad pro.

Anyone knows when will in Store pickup be available? Thanks!
Should be the 29th, but apparently Best Buy is sending out different dates, Apple themselves say anywhere from March 29th to April 8th for shipping but I never saw a set date on their website.
We know for sure it’s this week though... and so I am going to say expect it the 29th.

WELL!... I was dead wrong.

I'm pretty sure the 26th was either an error or typos or even an estimated date. It will be here Friday 3/29.

Thursday would have been far more convenient, but no worries I can wait another day. I just hope I can change my work hours since I’ll be in early to pick this up (Anything later than 8:00 a.m. at the 5th Avenue store is dicey as far as crowds especially in the smaller space).

I’m not so sure about that.
You are correct. The Mini 5 microphone is in a different location, on top and in line with the front camera. I plan to just drill a mic hole into the case I have for my Mini 4. All the other dimensions are the same.

Do people think this will start getting yearly refreshes again, such as faced and bezel less next year, or are we likely to see it keep the same form factor here on out, and be a product that gets upgraded every 3/4 years

I know nobody can say for definite, just curious what people’s thoughts on this are

I think that Apple does a calculation on the market for new features and the development and production costs and maintains a ladder for which changes will increase profits for a given period and they execute the group that has the highest return. The Mini is a niche product - though the actual number may be large; the percentage of the iPad universe is likely small. So I don't see it as high on their priority list. They threw us a tasty bone.

And I look forward to reading books on it. It will be easier on my hand at an ounce lighter than my Mini 2.

I can’t see Apple updating the Mini any sooner than every 3 yrs. at a minimum. (don’t quote me on that ). I suspect their largest market for these are quite possibly pilots, doctors, and for POS devices which don’t require frequent updates. Anyway just my opinion.

Also readers like me, I love the current form and hope it never changes.

So I am pretty excited about getting the new mini now. It’s a funny story about my journey with the mini 4... i had originally bought the mini 4 in October 2015, but there were really weird issues with the home button sliding out of place, breaking, or just being really loose, so I took it back and waited for 7-8 months and got the 64GB at my University. But I sold that one to help get the 2017 iPad Pro... but I really missed that size and fun little baby iPad so I
got the 128Gb and had that for about 4-5 months before selling that again for the 2018 iPad Pro, lol... now here I am so here I am getting one again, (*just knock on wood that it doesn’t have display issues, bad light bleed, dead pixels, dents or scratches, and the Touch ID button is secured perfectly.) Lol

Anyhoo, tangent over, I am prepping for this iPad, I got out my original deep Orange Smart Cover, a Light Blue one... then I ordered the Papaya too. (Golly why couldn’t Apple do more bright spring or vibrant colors all around? Papaya looks great, but I’d love green, blue, tue Turquoise, saddle gown leather, or even a more yellow wth a little orange mix, etc, and etc...
I wonder if I would be able to buy a white cover and stain it green or blue... anyone ever try that or know if it’s possisble? lol

I don't think the Mini would have got the A12 if they were planning to update it again next year.
I see this like the iPod touch 6th gen in 2015, *they gave t enough new features to lure users in, but didn’t spend much money on any R&D and such.
If the pod touch 7 is actually real and comes out, I think we’ll be a bit more certain the iPad mini will not die Year’s from now. IMO anyway.

Any iPad Mini 5 orders shipped yet? Mine has moved to “Preparing to ship” with a 4/2-4/5 delivery estimate.
