Was hoping Apple overestimated on my delivery time.. I placed it at 12:27 PM EST Monday, but it’s starting to look unlikely that I’ll get a Friday delivery.

I’ve had an iPad mini 2 for around 4 or 5 years. I gave up waiting for a mini 5 so I got the pro which I love. But I just ordered the mini 5 yesterday. To me it’s a really good deal. And I love using it with my DJI drone. It fits perfectly in the controller. But less and less apps work on the mini 2. Wife gets the pro and I finally get a new mini. Very happy I ordered it. If it takes off in sales we might even see a pro version in a couple years. But I’m just fine with the form factor as is for now and probably another couple years.

I’m strongly considering the mini as an iPod touch replacement. My iPod is a lossless source for an external DAC. While smaller and better suited to a music device, the battery life is abysmal.

With the mini I have a small music device and it can double as my go to book reader and my device for iOS games. I’ll never update past iOS 12 (or 13 if there is a dark mode) so it will never slow down.

That could free me to get a larger iPad Pro.

I am personally not impressed with iPad Mini 5.

The internals bump is merely an expected (and obvious) spec update to 2019 standards. Nothing out of extraordinary there.

Yet the chassis is still stuck in 2012: same huge bezels (why??) and no USBc. No USBc... In 2019 for Pete's sake!!!!

In my opinion, a VERY lazy and conservative update.

Equally why go away from lightning for the bulk of the users out there. If you want USB C on a mini buy an iPad Pro

Personally I prefer the bezels on the mini form factor and far prefer Touch ID to Face ID.

I'm buying this device because it supports the first gen Apple Pencil. Means all my iPads that I will use for home and work support the pencil which is important to me as I do a huge amount of PDF annotating.

I also prefer bezels, so that I can hold the device without having to hold it by the screen. The only thing that is a shame is that it seems that the Mini has larger bezels relative to the size of the device than the 2018 iPad.

Add to that, the removal of the headphone jack on the new iPad Pros. There are still some of us who want/need it.

I'm surprised no movement in my shipping status. My card was charged on Thursday. Status is Preparing for shipping. Estimated date was March 29-April 2. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

My order now has "This item will take longer than usual to ship. We'll send you an update soon"

Anyone else? Date still says 28th - 2nd....

Mine says the same thing except my dates say Apr 9 - Apr 12th. I was going to buy earlier but I had to dump my iPad pro first. I am flying overseas on the 15th so I hope it gets here on time. Most of the time when Apple gives a range it arrives on the first day of the range so I am not too worried.
