This is an interesting post. I too have the 12.9 and 11” Pro’s but used to love my mini. I wonder if there’s anyone else who is considering getting all 3 iPad’s? A bit of an overkill but I love the portability of the mini and an thinking about it....
Just cancelled my Apple Store order and preordered on Bestbuy.com. I had a delivery date of April 5-10 through Apple but Best Buy states it will be ready for pickup on March 29. And FYI if you have an account on best buy use it and you can save $25. I purchased the iPad Mini 5 Space Gray 64GB Wifi for $374.99. Cheers!
I get the sense that everyone is just guessing on launch day right now, including Apple. Its odd that even Apple doesn't publish a solid launch day, just a "range", even if you got in first. I used AT&T and got March 27-Apr 3rd, when Apple was showing Apr 2-5. Apple's "in first" dates were Mar 27-Apr 2. Just odd how no one has a specific date yet.
Just ordered mine from Best Buy for release date pickup. I already have a 10.5” iPad Pro which I’ve been contemplating upgrading to the newest 12.9”, but I’ve been actually waiting around for a mini update due to starting my Rheum fellowship this summer. Now the question is whether I think I can survive without my 15” MBP...
I use my iPad Mini2 32GB WiFi mainly to access Internet Radio and Podcasts and it is still doing a stellar job. My next purchase in the near future will be the new Apple Mac Mini Computer

Apple usually overestimates on delivery. I wouldn't be rushing to cancel and reorder elsewhere based on Apple's date range.
Agree, people doing Best Buy shipping do take up to a week to get to the location sometimes and Apple’s shipping services is faster usually on my end at least.
It’s worth it to me to try with my shipping date of April 5-10 to pickup on March 29 at Best Buy. Plus you get $25 off price with a Best Buy membership.
Dang, I did not think of split screen (how it will look etc). I need that while drawing in Procreate (copying from reference).

Best Buy and Costco from what I have seen are offering discounts of $25. Not a bad discount for a pre-release. I am able to order through Apple's Military Veterans store so the discount was a little better. So I will wait on Apple.

If that is a regular use case (split screen for drawing) then that is going to be rough... VERY rough. (I tried that a few times on my Mini 4 w/powered capacitive stylus) It's painful on the 9.7 2018 iPad.

I managed drawing in Procreate using split screen on the 2018 iPad just fine, only the memory was an occasional issue. I do not know how to enable split screen with Sketches Pro, so I could use that for commuting doodles.
I’ll test anyway. I admit I am skittish about the Air’s 10.5 chassis and potential white spots and/or touch disease. I’ll keep my eye on the Air (and hope Apple sorted those hardware issues) if the Mini proves to be too small for Procreate. Might get an Air as my main digital sketch pad during Apple’s Black Friday sale (The Best Buys near me seem to get bad batches of iPads no matter what model).

Mines still “Processing,” so I’m guessing I’ll miss out on getting it by next week.
I placed an order with Amazon and Apple just now. Apple shows April 11 - 14th as an estimate.
I did a pickup for Best Buy on the 29th. I’ve done pickups before but never a pre-order pickup. Hopefully they don’t mess it up.
It said pickup is on the 29th but who knows. I've never preordered through Best Buy before and we have no local Apple store.
Hopefully, the store gets an electronic notification on the 29th to prepare it. That's how it works if the item is in stock.
I actually have three iPads: the 12.9 (second generation), the 10.5" and the iPad mini 4. I do use all of them (not at the same time, of course!) and each has served different purposes and needs. Most of the time the 12.9" stays at home and the 10.5 is the one which travels with me, but there have been a few trips where the iPad Mini 4 went with me instead. Right now all of my devices are doing just fine so I won't be replacing any of them but I am very glad that Apple has finally updated the iPad mini.
I’ve ordered the new mini so I’ll soon be back to 3 iPads also!
