Placed an order for my wife's pink iPhone 13 at around 8:05AM and it still says "Order Placed". Same for my iPad mini 5 Space Black/64GB. Both say they will be available for pickup in-store on 9/24.

Yes, I decided that for the same cost the cellular would be more useful than the 256GB. I only went 256GB to allow me to dump a 64GB SD card when out doing photography. I've only filled a card once in 6 years and realistically should have enough storage to import whatever photos I need to at that time. If I need to dump a full card I can also split it in 2 and offload onto an SSD

I have had 1 cellular iPad before, the original Air, found it useful, but as you say, you don't tend to take the bigger iPad out and about as much.
Good point on the photography aspect.
Most of my cameras have dual card slots and I carry spare SD and XQD cards, so I have seldom needed a lot of space on my iPads for photos, but video is a different story: most cameras do not record video to dual card slots, the files can get huge, and there is no backup. I particularly get nervous about having no backups of things like drone videos which are recorded on 256GB micro-SD cards, which are much more prone to failure. I have completely filled my 256GB iPad Pro with video files as temporary backups, and the transfer is quite slow. Not yet found a great solution for this (other than bringing a laptop). Maybe what I need is a USB hub to copy from one SD card to another (or SSD).

I ended up going with the Purple 64 WiFi. I do wish they had a green version (I really dig that color on the APM) but I like purple too. I was probably going to just sit this one out but they had a pretty good trade in value for my iPad Pro 10.5” that made this reasonable and I am ready to move on from the thick bezels on it even though performance wise it has still been great. I also have a iPad Pro 12.9” that also has the thinner bezels so I figure I can use that to process or edit pictures I mainly want the mini for the form factor, media consumption and notepad so I was ok without a lot of storage or cellular.

I love that combo because I think the 12.9 is great for editing photos and I love the screen real estate there and power but then it can also be unwieldy so with the iPad mini it’s just the perfect size for me as a reader, on a plane or even just consuming media at home it’s usually just really comfortable to use for general things so I think they are both great at what they do. I have started using notes since I had the iPad Pro so I’m excited it uses the new pencil and I also think it will be perfect for note taking for me usually means the quicker I can get the device out and take a quick note the more useful it is and I think again the mini will be really easy to bring along and use. Really excited that they made this update it checks a lot of boxes for me and I always liked the mini form factor.

I have resolved this (for my 12.9) with an Anker USB-C hub and a Samsung T7 Touch.

I have 1TB and 500GB versions and they are ideal for offloading large files from iPads, and easier to open the files via other devices..

So presumably you can copy (or move) directly from SD card to external SSD, without a two-step process of copying to iPad first?

Has anyone else been charged yet for their iPad mini? I ordered on Tuesday, still no charge. But the iPhone I ordered his morning has already hit my credit card. Just seemed a little weird, so I was curious!

The date after "Arrives" is gone. Used to be September 24th. Now there's no date at all!!

Mine says processing. I ordered mine for store pickup on the 24th. and that's what it's still saying.
Its actually moved from "order placed" to "processing" and your green bar has moved further along. Next it will go to preparing to ship, probably next week some time. Its all normal.

Yeah, a few other people have mentioned this happening and it's what I'm seeing as well. However, if I try to re-order the exact same configuration, the shipping estimate still shows 9/24 for a brand new order. So the missing date has almost certainly got to be a glitch and nothing to worry about. I hope! Someone earlier in the thread contacted Apple Support and was told everything was fine.

Has anyone else got a pending charge on their card different from the amount of their orders? I used Apple Card and strangely there is a large pending charge that doesn’t match up with any of my recent orders although it shows as being an Apple Store purchase. Very confused…

Does anyone else not have a pending charge on their credit card for their order?
I don’t either. Just the $1.00 ping charge to test the card and it’s refund on Tuesday. Mine says “Arrives” too without the Sept. 24 date like others have said. I’m not using an Apple credit card but I doubt that matters.

It may differ how it behaves depending on the credit card. I used a Discover card. Nothing is shipping till prob. Sunday night (US time) or later. It gets here from China pretty quickly

Placed an order yesterday for the space grey mini and purple smartfolio. Sitting on “Order in progress” yet had a delivery date of the 24th at checkout and in the confirmation email. No charges on my Apple Card. Green progress bar and date are gone from order page.

Also no charges for mine or my wife’s even though we were already charged for our phones. Very odd.

Just found out that you can’t BYOD an iPad with Xfinity Mobile (wth)… can you activate a cellular iPad on another network without using them for cell service??

Western Digital has had drives with built in SD slots optimized for easy file dumping

Yes, mine adds up to a whole set of apple care extra. I have 4 charges holding, one for the amount of an Apple Pencil, one for the amount of the smart folio, one for the amount of the iPad mini with Apple Care and one for the amount of Applecare on its own. I shall wait and see what I end up being charged before taking it up with apple. Furthermore, I cancelled my mini order and ordered a new mini (different configuration same cost) but the hold on my card is £6 less this time round.
