The shadow effect on all four edges due to the thicker glass or distance away from LCD is noticeable though.
Only time I find it really noticeable is if I go looking for it, luckily our eyes most of the time are staring at the middle of the display and not right at the edges.

Just received mine.

Well, im one of those who really doesnt care much about the M1 and the upcoming "Pro Features".
I use my iPad 2018 12.9 most of the times just for web surfing and watching movies/tv shows, and i wasnt very pleased with the screen of the 2018 compared to my Oled Tvs.

What can i say. The new Mini Led screen is night and day compared to my 2018 ipad, specially when watching in a pretty dark room. iTunes Dolby Vision movies are looking amazing and a lot better. Really cool. But non HDR content in a bright room doesnt make a big difference.

The new iPad screen is a big upgrade for sure, but spending so much money just for better media cosumption, puh, still feels kinda crazy.
I have the opposite experience.

My HDR iTunes movies just look as if they are on the 2018 iPad Pro, just slightly brighter.

HDR on Youtube video is very obvious though.

Calm down everyone! The blooming does not exist in real life… It’s probably the way the iPhone camera works in low light conditions (I shut the curtains to take a better video of the comparison against the 11” 2018 iPP when watching black content).

Like what Kung gu has said, photos or videos don’t do the display justice. You need to see it in person to appreciate the amazing quality.
********. It’s so clear there is blooming. Nice try though.

Of course there is some kind of blooming, for example when using subtitles. But not a big deal at all.
And im someone who owns Oled Tvs only, cause i care about black levels a lot. This Mini Led Display is doing a really great job. This blooming discussion is totally overrated.

there will be blooming (not saying there is no blooming at all but the blooming is less pronounced in real life) of course but its not that big of a deal for ME. I rather deal with blooming than burn in or weird green tint or other issues that OLED has.

Every mini-led panel will have blooming does not matter if its a Samsung TV or iPad Pro. But the pros of mini-led outweigh the cons. OLED has issues like burn in or bad saturation or tinting issues.

As long as the blacks are black, its good for me.

Just received my 12´9. Already have iPad Air 2021 and iPad Pro 11" 2020. I was underwhelmed by the screen. Looks nice when playing movies (HDR) but absolutely no difference when browsing web etc. Returning this and keeping my Pro 11".
Yeah not a big update as they made out

I’ll be the first to man up and admit I was totally wrong, this MINI LED screen is the Real deal, prefer it over my oled tv.

Trust me you won’t be disappointed ? if anything these youtubers were playing down the screen quality ?

Oh man, why do you have to do this to me... I was so ready to keep using my 2018 and avoiding another upgrade...

This forum goes full psycho when new products come out, always a meltdown. I love it. ?

Thx to all sharing early thoughts and pics. Can't wait for mine later today.

There's those that are elated and those that have high expectations that aren't met for what they have and/or are willing to pay.

I see no fault with either party tbh

People who don't like what's put out, shouldn't make others enjoy their product any less.

Likewise, someone enjoying their product shouldn't make someone not satisfied anymore swayed into settling

...imo

I'm digging this thread. MR feedback is more helpful to me than YT 'influencers' by in large.

Guys there’s no perfect screen, some defects some arent. If you see blooming take it back to apple. The verge has a review unit and they mentioned that weird blooming effect. Others report weird shadow on edges. Take it back to apple instead of talking to kids on this forums

But the kids at Apple Store will say 'that's perfect, it's got a fruit logo on the back. I'd be psyched to get blooming and shadows at the expense of the speed of M1 and the size and that awesome HDR content'

I think it's going to come down to personal preference / tolerance, etc.

For sure, hopefully no-one is taking the pictures as a full representation of real life use.

But if we are going to have pictures on the thread comparing the old and the new display, why not doing in different situations (I am sure the picture you posted also exaggerates the difference between the 2 but you as the person posting it and many readers including myself still found it relevant).
