I had my 2017 12.9 replaced for the lightbleed problem a year ago, and now I have a small spot starting to bleed again. I wonder if it’s related to my extended use with the smart keyboard, as it always happens on the side where the iPad is « standing » on.

I believe it’s to do with the magnets in the screen. Not sure why Apple didn’t see this coming from the design.

Does anyone know if it’s fixed with the new iPads now they’ve moved the magnets to the back?

I’ll throw my hat in the ring here too.

My 12.9” 2017 iPad Pro started with the light bleed a few months ago. It may be a coincidence but it only started a couple of months after I got my first magnetic Apple Smart Cover. Before that I was using a case that only used a magnet for sleep/wake.

I am convinced that it’s the Smart Cover that has interfered with my iPad.

It doesn’t bother me so much, I’ll probably take it to an Apple store if I’m passing whenever it’s safe to go outside again but otherwise I’ll just keep it for another year or so and get the next proper Pro refresh.

It seems like Apple probably should be initiating a replacement program for this.

Mine is getting worse. A new bleed spot shows up every few weeks now. Plus the touch issue is to the point I feel like throwing it in the trash. Extremely disappointed.

Do you think they will replace it even if it is out of warranty?

Iˋm on my second bleeding ipad now (touch screen issue is also returning), and I’m positive it has something to do with the magnets, or internals in relation to the smart connector. The issue is always on the same side, and progression feels linearly related to how much it’s docked in the smart keyboard.

I just got my 2nd swap through today because of the lighting bleed problem.
both times i have used apple certified company that performs apple repairs.
luckily theres a 2 year warranty by law in denmark.
My bleed both times happened in the left side starting after about a year and getting worse and worse. its always docked in the type cover as i use it as the screen protection when packed away. I too am positive its a magnet problem related to the cover.
Now i will use the new one for a year to 1.5 and swap it again after that ☹️

My 2017 iPad Pro 12.9 inch is also having similar issues now even though I haven't used any of the magnetic accessories before

Sadly it is already out of AppleCare+ and infuriatingly, this is the fourth one I RMA'ed from Apple when AppleCare+ was in use (previous three were affected by touch issues)

I am in Singapore, which do not have as comprehensive consumer laws as you guys so I may be SOLed

Good luck, with Apple stores closed, the look over will be after mailing in. I took mine in to a store about 10 months ago and it cost me $499 to replace with a new one of same model and year. This one is ok so far. It is an Apple manufacturer problem, but you will get no where with them. I also followed up with customer No service, argued over an hour and got frustrated even more.

Our Apple Stores are open so I can still try my luck with a walk-in but I highly doubt I can get a free replacement this time round

My 12.9 2nd gen iPad is having this same problem again. I got it replaced under warranty last year for the same reasons as everyone else here, and just recently I started seeing two bright spots along the edge of the screen, near the bottom left corner. The unresponsive touch screen problem also returned around the same time the bright spots appeared, so the two problems might be related. I’ve never used any Apple covers, and always had the iPad inside an otter box defender case. I won’t be taking this into an Apple store any time soon because of obvious reasons, so I’ll see if I can try to ignore the light bleeding for now. It’s annoying for sure but it doesn’t render the device useless.

Is there any class action going on for this issue? When I called Apple, they took down the serial number of my IPP 12.9" so I guess even I go to a store, the option will be pay half the current price to get an old (and probably refurbished) model.

There's none unfortunately, until finally somebody with a law degree gets an invalid iPad and becomes frustrated enough lol. Probably even lawyers don't use it anymore (unlike MacBooks with an infamous butterfly keyboard issue).

I’ve had minor bleeding for about a year, and suddenly it’s getting worse. I have hardly used my iPad Pro over the last ~2 years. It’s always been in a case with an ASK. I have taken exceedingly good care of it. The fact that a $1000 device can start to fail so quickly is just unforgivable. Anyone have any tips to get it replaced?

Mine hasn’t gotten worse for a long time, since I noticed flash lighting

And no touch issues on iOS 13.5

Thank God, I’m not spending lots of $$$ on another 12.9 and keyboard attachment any time soon
