Sounds like this may become a common thing with out of warranty iPads. Special service campaign please. Screens should not be delaminating.

The Apple Store refused to exchange my out of warranty iPad. The quality control on these devices is shoddy and the prices are through the roof. Really itching to give the Surface a go.

Everybody always posts that the quality control issues only affect the minority with these devices and I am baffled as to why my past 4 or 5 apple devices (over 2 - 3 years) have all been affected in some way and have all been replaced under warranty only to show/develop similar issues. Tbf, it’s predominantly uniformity issues. Dark shadow/patches, some light bleeding etc, while the surrounding hardware has been impeccable, in my case.

I’ve heard of device lottery but this is other level lately with apple gear.

If this is truly a minority thing then how unlucky Can one get ;) clean, uniform displays are like gold dust and trying to secure one is super frustrating and equally exhausting.

Hi guys, I wouldn’t even have noticed the light lightbleed, if it wasn’t for this vertical stripe on the screen. It keeps flickering and makes it very hard on your eyes to work with this...anyone has the same issue? It’s out of warranty and the apple store (Slovakia) basically ‘offered’ a replacement unit for 900€...no thank you.

Really itching to give the Surface a go.

My Surface Go is my favorite device. Absolutely awesome. But it depends on your use case. I should add that the Surface Go's battery is not fantastic. I can get a solid 6 hours with web browsing, email, some video. If you go with a Surface Pro battery will be better, obviously.

Microsoft has a product event October 2 and new Surface devices are expected then.

The more I read this thread the less my opinion of Apple. When the light bleeding started on my device I thought it was just an isolated incident, but as time goes on more and more people are posting about this issue with their iPads. It definitely seems like a design flaw.

Took mine in a month after warranty expired with a faulty screen.
No they wouldn’t help. Typical.

unfortunately mine has excatly the same issue after a year...

37c2b480fd1e7270ebbeb91d52171fb4.jpg

it started with couple, now there are seven.

a year suffered by an unresponsive screen, now an unresponsive screen and a light bleed.

The whole left side of my pro has this. Started a few spots here and there half the time now the screen is unresponsive.
To think an iPad that cost over a grand will cost another £500 to replace as it’s only a month out of warranty is scandalous

I too have this issue. I created an account just to add on to the thread lol. This is seriously ridiculous. I don't know what to do. I'm in the U.S and it sounds like we have it the worst when needing a replacement. I did not expect so many people to have the same exact issue. I am pretty upset. They don't care though. It isn't the consumers fault. It is apple's. I MIGHT try to get it replaced. If I do attempt, I will update on the thread.

Please update if they give you a free replacement. They denied me one.

Did they replace it for free?

i havent had time to visit an authorized service (busy at work and we dont have apple stores)... now there are 17 bleeds... so.. when it start it becomes worse... and im not going to pay anything if apple asked me to pay something. they asked me to visit an authorized service that ipad will be checked for physical damages and then call back to them. Reading this forum it seems to be a real problem and apple seems to deny free service, until a class action suit.. any guess how many months?

I searched Google for this issue and found this forum and am glad I did and now registered. I am having the same problem with the LED light bleeding. Mine on the bottom right of the screen and this is my 2nd iPad Pro 12.9 inch (bought my first one in Dec 2017). My first one had the same problem just soon after the 12th month warranty but in the UK we have consumer law rights and the local Apple store in LEEDS replaced it without any questions asked but I think they gave a refurbished one and now nearly 10 months on I am having the same problem with this iPad. Looks like it’s an ongoing issue and most likely with the 12.9 inch version as I have read a lot of concerning user reviews. Not happy at all. I am taking mine back today at 6pm and will demand a brand new one (2019 model) as I am not taking any more risks with 2017/2018 models but am glad at least we have 2yrs under the consumer rights laws for any manufacturer issues and mine would run out in Dec 2019.

I’ll update after my visit to the Apple store and hope that this may help others.

How many light bleed spots?

Approx. 10 or 12 (but there are some large ones possibly combination of many small one's closed to each other to form a large one)

basically bottom right half.

Wanted to upload a photo but for some reasons the attachment is not working. Clicked the paperclip sign but no response.

I have quite an old ipdad and no issues such as this so I'm guessing it's mainly to do with the larger screens which Apple couldn't get it right. If many people made noise then they may do something about it but either way I don't think people should give up that easily and take it to the top whether it's under warranty it not because clearly this is a manufacturer issue and not an individual or from personal wear and tear use.

It sounds to me who you get on the other end when contacting Apple but if you are in the UK (Sorry not sure about US laws) or even EU you should be okay and quote the Consumer rights Law.

Anyway, will update how it goes this evening.

Good luck!

Tried calling Apple on phone and didn’t work. They refused to replace it as its out of warranty. Really contemplating a Surface and ditching iPad for good. This is unacceptable.

im pretty much sure they are in trouble with the issue widespread and now they are declining to replace them. i hope a class action lawsuit is raised.

Me too - same iPad, same screen spots, same side, 2+ yr old out of warranty, agree it's a build quality issue, not about personal care.

I did get a replacement. I found the 9P approach works well with Apple Support: polite, patient(while they diagnose), polite, procedures(follow all theirs), polite, persuasive, polite, persistent, polite. It will take some time, no instant solutions. It's a little perplexing, just don't get PO'd! If you throw in a little passion for your other great Apple products, it can be productive o_O

My 2nd Gen 12.9” Pro has light bleed in one spot so far... appeared a couple of months ago. Had the Pro since launch and love it, really hope it doesn’t get worse but based on this thread it sounds like it’s inevitable.

Just wanted to chime in and say mine showed the exact same problem with light bleeding and intermittenly unresponsive display. Luckily I live in Denmark and here the law requires 1 year of full product warranty and 1 additonal year of manufactoring failure warranty. Mine got exchanged by apple at no cost because of the second year warranty.
Hi Der Keyser.
If you come by this thread again - and have the time to PM me, I would really appreciate... (I'm a 'newbie' and can't PM yet).
I'm from Denmark too, and I've just send my iPad Pro 12.9 (2017) to service because of the light bleeding. Now they claim that the issue is not under warranty (reklamationsretten) - and they want Dkr 6337,- to fix it (!!!) (and if I refuse that, they'll charge me Dkr 275 anyway (!!)). If I could refer to other cases, it might help... (If you find time to PM me, please feel free to write in danish).
