Haven’t read all the replies so not sure if others have this issue…putting the lock key right above the delete key probably wasn’t the best idea. I don’t always look at the keyboard when I’m typing and I’m constantly locking my device when I mean to delete something.
This sounds horrible 😫

My lock key requires me to hold it down for more than a second before anything happens so this is a non issue.

I guess it has to do with heat and battery life, yes. It is a software cap by Apple even though the display hardware is capable. The MacBook Pro displays do the same but you can override it via a little program on those devices. On iPad you are out of luck though.
I thought the 1000 SDR brightness on M1/M2 triggered in bright light, such as sunlight. I think the iphone and watch do the same?

I know, what I meant is that they all "reserve" brightness for being used in very bright light.

Well, today I used the iPad Pro 11" M4 on a train where a lot of sunlight was coming and going all the time. And for sure they do "reserve" brightness for being used in very bright light: even if I had the brightness up at 100% all the time already, when the sun was shining on it, it went up further. It was very visible and very pleasing to use.

You likely have Auto-Brightness turned on in Settings (it’s turned on by default). If you turn it off, the brightness slider at 100% gives you the full brightness regardless of ambient light.

That's an interesting take. Are you 100% sure about that? I just turned auto brightness off, and compared how the iPad looks bringing up the slider to 100%, and it looks absolutely the same both ways (in a relatively dimly lit room right now).

I will perform the same test again tomorrow in sunlight.

It doesn't, hence my point they "reserve" brightness. Even if you have the brightness at 100% they can get brighter in bright light.

I’m sure that’s how it is on iPhone 12/13. You can get higher brightness by turning off Auto-Brightness. Maybe it’s indeed different on the M4 iPad Pros.

Noticing two things coming from an 11” m1 to the 13” m4:

-text us much easier to read especially in academic articles on pdf (night mode looks amazing in it)
-tablet mode feels better to me in landscape when in bed. Was trying to use portrait but realized that landscape turned the iPad into a thin sheet that feels the size of a MacBook. The small iPhone sized floating keyboard also makes a huge difference when using it in this mode!

For those who have the 11 inch, do you find they magic keyboard too cramped? Like when I tried it out in the Apple Store, it was so much easier to type with the 13 inch iPad...

I've been using the 11 inch keyboard for years now and I don't find it too cramped. It's actually the keyboard I can type on the fastest because keys are a bit closer together. It's only a matter of getting used to it.

Maybe that's what I need to bare in mind
I think because of have an 15 inch Mac, I find the 11 inch keyboard cramped!

I use the 11” keyboard and while it is smaller than a traditional laptop keyboard, I find it is fine for typing. I am a touch typist and am as fast on the MKB as I am on my 14” MacBook Pro.

I use the iPad as a complement to my MacBook, so I’m not using it as my main device. If that were the case, I would probably go for the 13” iPad, solely for screen real estate.

Re: 11” vs. 13” key spacing:

Apple says to use a damp microfiber cloth to clean your iPad screen. I have tried that and the results are not that good. Have to be some cleaner that is safe and will not hurt the screen coating.

What is safe to use?

Maybe a microfiber lens type of cloth; this is the smooth type of cloth vs a "microfiber" cloth that might be better for using on your car to wax it with.

forgive me if this is already asked, but i saw online that with the magic keyboard, there's a lot more wobbling when touching the ipad. anybody notice this?

Question: I have de 11 pro M4 with the new Magic Keyboard. It’s supposed to close/shut completely around all edges? Because one side is completely together shut closed and the other side has a gap. This is at the back of the keyboard (hinge) both corners left and right. It’s normal?

I didn't notice before I saw this video, but I also mainly use my iPad with the keyboard and trackpad (meaning I rarely touch the screen when the iPad is connected to the keyboard).
