@Boardiesboi any thoughts on this?

Just curious does the screen make contact with metal palm rests on the new keyboard? It seems over time it would wear into the screen when it's closed and being handled.

On your old device you may have been running an older OS and your new iPad could not accept the data from your old device. Always make sure your old device is up to date before transferring to a new device.
Not every iPad can be updated anymore. My 9.7 Pro is still on iPadOS 16 and that's as high as it goes.

I just picked up my 13” M4 iPad Pro. I gave other models a try at the store, and let me tell you…these things are THIN! I was shocked when I saw the 11” and I can’t wait to open my 13”.
If I wasn’t using it for work as much as I am, I would definitely get the 11” with the Magic Keyboard (which also feels amazing, by the way. The aluminium palm rest is much nicer than plastic/rubber). It reminded me of my favorite portable setup which was the 11” Macbook Air around 2011-2012. Really great new iPads.

The charging brick should have been black as well. That would have been neat.
Ordered M4 iPad Pro 13+Magic Keyboard+Pencil Pro here in India. It’s in transit. Will see if charging brick is included. SuperSaf in UK mentioned in a video yesterday that it does not.
No power plug in the UK, l will be using my

They are good for UK plugs, as the three prongs fold down. Got three of them.

Totally agree but I have OCD and can’t stand scratches on my devices.
...but if you have OCD, how can you stand looking through the screen protector? ;) I'm only half kidding of course, do what makes you happy. For me, my OCD is that I can't stand screen protectors in general, I'd rather risk the scratch, but thats why we can all make our own choices :)

I had a lot of silver iPads before and prefer the darker colour.

Also I had the white keyboard last gen and that thing is so hard to keep clean.

I'm making the opposite move. Have always had space gray but moving to silver for a change. Any idea what the pairing of a silver iPad with black magic keyboard looks like? Haven't seen that combo in pictures so maybe is not recommended.

I plan to do a clean install rather than install from backup, since my current iPad has so much accumulated junk I've collected over the years. Other than having to manually download my apps one at a time from the App Store, any drawbacks to that approach I'm not considering?

I have been seeing all the reviews for the new iPads. It looks like the majority of reviewers are getting the 13 iPads. They seem to be saying that the iPad hardware is great and the software is behind. I don't think they are getting the point. iPad is not a computer replacement. If Apple planned for the iPad to be a computer replacement, it would be running MacOS. Maybe in the future the OS's will get more similar. 17 years ago the iPhone was just phone and iPod. It is much more now.
Apple has a difficult job on the iPad. They're trying to keep it from being a 'computer replacement' while running ads saying 'what's a computer'. I get that iPadOS is a touch first paradigm, while MacOS is a trackpad/mouse paradigm. The challenge is that if Apple's charging as much as a MacBook Pro (when a Magic Keyboard is added) consumers start to get forced to choose.

Personally, I just need iPadOS to show greater flexibility and make better use of its docked mode. It needs to handle the windows situation and multitasking much better. It needs iPad apps to match the capability of MacOS apps. However they achieve that, I'd leave to their experts. I'm not buying another Mac for a long, long, long, time (until my M1Pro MBP AND M1 iMac BOTH break) so they might as well lean into making the iPad better.

Screens have also become a lot more durable. Coupled with simply using the Magic Keyboard or a folio case when packing my iPad into a bag, mine's gone 3 years without a screen protector and without a single scratch.
I trust myself to be careful... what I can't account for is the random toy my 5 year old is going to be wielding while running towards me unannounced 😅

But do you think the glass of the iPad is resting on the metal palm rests on the new keybord and will it wear into the glass when it closed and being handled and traveling in a backpack?

From the images I've seen so far, there appears to be a small air gap, so only the upper edge makes contact, rather than the screen itself. I'll find out in 3 hours though, and update accordingly, if the question hasn't been answered by then.

Thinner means the edges will be sharper. The current 11 Pro isn’t pleasant to use without a case because of the sharp edges.

Well, there is a lot of people using iPad as an iPad only. I sometimes watch these YouTube’s where the mainly use the pencil to write notes, diaries me edit movies. It’s amazing to see that no Mac is nearby for them to do anything. I think there is a core group of users that is not interested or unaware of anything pc/Mac way of doing things. They simple are happy that it’s simple to use.

Then there are people far more comfortable with pc/macs and either have an iPad as complementary or try to make it the main computing device. It seems those people suffer the most of the “limited” experience. They have the problem of knowing how much a computer can do and keep hitting the wall if they try to do it.

For now it doesn’t seem to be an easy problem to solve for Apple. To just make the Mac a touch device you suffer the same problem as windows with their 2-in-1s, is neither great for either. They could just give people what they want, but the experience might be mediocre and unclear and makes it hard to have a clear direction how the improve the hardware and software. Their current strategy so far is to actually not alter the original experience of each platform but provide more ways to interact with each other (sidecar, sharing input, copy paste etc). Sidecar is clearly a Mac driven function, since the opposite doesn’t exist (is that true?).

At least with the current iPad and Mac experience there is a clear distinction. And “some” pc/Mac first tech reviewer are constantly wanting it to be more Mac like. Perhaps the core users of each will always be different.

was wondering about this too
Pics of the side of the keyboard when closed. I think the screen does touch the aluminium palm rests on either side of the trackpad. The gap you see in the pics is probably because of the screen protector I installed.
