No. Does the guy not know that docx files belong to Microsoft Word and he could simply open and edit the file there?

Suggest watching the video before commenting. He's coming from desktop OS so, for example, on MacOS, Google Drive can open and edit docx files all through the browser without any additional apps. Additionally, you can fill out a PDF form like IRS 1040 and even sign it all within Edge browser for MacOS that you can't do on iPadOS.

One of the keys that the iPadOS needs is to let the user install apps (already can) and set the type association, like PDFs should open with X app.

No need for me to watch the video to get the gist of his gripe. It doesn't do what *I* want it to do so it's trash.:rolleyes:

I have no interest in the iPad Pro or any iPad. Not a fan of iOS. Anyhow, if he uses a tablet and expects it to function as a laptop...well...Whadidya expect, Sherlock? Y'all using the wrong tool for the job. I won't call a $100 Stiletto hammer* trash because it can't drive screws.

If he wants me to watch his vids, he needs to drop the clickbait title. Something like, iPad Pro Doesn't Replaces Laptop. I'd watch that to see why the iPad Pro would not fill the needs of someone who needs a laptop, but wants the convenience of a tablet.

*damn fine hammer, but I ain't ponying up $200+ when my $20 Estwing is plenty good.

This is when I stopped watching the video. What a stupid complaint and he just sounds like a butt-hurt tech reviewer. It's not rocket science that if you need to open certain file-types, you need certain APPLICATIONS. Even if he wanted to open and edit the .docx file on a surface, he would need Microsoft Word.

It's like complaining you can't open a .psd file with default OS apps. Duh! You would need, photoshop, pixelmator or any other software that handles such file types.

Even I don't like iPad Pro's that much cause they don't meet my laptop needs but this guy is just ridiculous.

LOL he doesn't even seem to know you can use Word to export Word Doc as PDF, I do it all the time on my iPhone ? No let me use 20x more steps and 10 browsers to do it, such a smart guy.
Haters usually do spend a lot of time emoting and little time thinking. Besides, he was probably paid to come up with fake problems in the first place

and on PDFs you can save websites and many docs directly to pdf

He doesn't even know how to use an iPad. And he seems incredibly arrogant which clouds his judgement and willingness to learn how to use a ****ing iPad.

When you view a docx file in dropbox you open it in Word to edit it. On a Mac there is literally no other way either. If you don't have Word you can't just edit it in Preview. That's not how anything works.

Seriously, it's a valid experience, most casual users I've seen with iPads go through the same challenges. A ton of stuff is dumbed down trying to improve user experience and actually ends up hurting it.

Where's the valid experience when he doesn't actually have one? If it's a rant about iPadOS then don't pretend that it's an iPad M1 review to get clicks.

If I wanted an unbiased review I'd rather wait for Linus Tech Tips than latch onto any old clickbait rant and pretend it's an honest and refreshing take on Apple.

To be fair, the Mac CAN open docx files just fine (less some formatting) through TextEdit.

I don’t think the task shown on the video would have been solved with TextEdit, it also wouldn’t work out of the box on Windows. The guy has a desktop way of doing the whole docx without Word (on the web) -> PDF -> Signature that naturally doesn’t translate, it doesn’t mean it cant be done in even less steps and friendlier (the signing part at least) on iPad, it means the video was deliberately done to make the iPad look incapable.

It opens with bundled Wordpad or Word read-only which comes with some Windows.

You have to jump through a lot more hoops to get things done on iPadOS if it can be done at all.

Try filling out IRS form 1040 and sign directly on form with only browser on iPadOS that you can easily do with full desktop browser on desktop OS. Good luck.

True but if the goal is to file taxes, there are other ways to do it. In reality, most Americans probably don't fill out Form 1040 by hand anyway.

I tried the TurboTax app and that one worked well considering I was just entering everything with the onscreen keyboard.

Granted, I like being able to backup my tax returns so I did buy TurboTax Deluxe and used the PC version to file my taxes instead of using the online based app for filing.

Talk about bringing back nightmares. Way back a long time ago, I did a season with VITA (volunteer income tax assistance) where I filled out the 1040s in pencil, got it double-checked, then inked over the pencil to finalize the return. Talk about painful. I’m so glad software is available today.

Right—I did the same but buying the Mac version for my MBP.

Not necessarily tax specific but general PDF form filling and signing which is common and basic. Not every form has an associated app. Just had to sign my insurance which is web/pdf based. For tax, app is inferior to the web version of TurboTax anyway but on iPad which doesn't have a full desktop browser you have to settle for app.
