I did the same thing - no bending issues with my 12.9. However, reading all these stories and watching the videos, I shelled out for AppleCare+. I’ve owned multiple iPods, Watches, and iPads and never thought to purchase the extra protection. Makes me wonder if Applie is paying folks to talk about their ‘bent’ iPads in an effort to wring more $$$ out of us fools! :)
Good question!

5:41 Strange how Apple are bragging about using sapphire, on the lens, when the test fails at a lower scratch mark

Saphire is scratch resistant not break proof. If you don’t know what i mean, you might want to search and find out what happened with that test.

Wait. Thank goodness this person doesn’t work at apple because if they did they would...heaven forbid...make our devices more durable??

Holy crap you’re right. WE NEED THINNER. I’M TALKING CRACKER THIN. MAKE IT HAPPEN

Damn right

We need efficient durability, not durability at all costs. Get an Otterbox if that’s your concern. Apple hit this balance out of the park with the new iPad Pro. Sturdy enough that the thing won’t bend in every day use for most users, thin enough to be a joy to use and to keep pushing the industry forward.

I don’t think our experiences with iPad would be any less joyful if an extra mm was added. But ok man

Nope. Not good enough. WE NEED THINNER! I WANT TO PUT THE IPAD NEXT TO THAT CRACKER AND SAY—aha!—IT’S THINNER!

:D

I’m kidding. It’s a fair criticism. I just think it’s shortsighted.

I know exactly what happened and it did only because it's not a sapphire lens through and through like all good watches. It's just a super thin aluminum oxide layer on top of regular glass. Patented by Apple, cheap to make and bragging rights handed over to marketing, despite it not being pure sapphire and inferior in every way but cost. How can you try to defend something like that? You have to pay a premium price for Apple product but get second rate stuff, instead of the real thing.

I woke up this morning and my iPad was bent all the way to a 90 degree angle

Time for that class action lawsuit

I do have a legitimate question, would a bent iPad Pro quality for AppleCare+ service? I mean a minor, real-world bend. But alternatively, I suppose if it bent for a legitimate reason, like if it were in a backpack that got smashed in an airplane overhead bin, would that qualify?

Apple has a page that describes what qualifies and what doesn’t. It seems as long as it is still in one piece, Apple will let you use an AC+ Incident to replace it. If you come in with a bag of pieces or powder from the “will it blend” video, Apple will say the device is BER - beyond economical repair, and will force you to buy a new unit.

Put me into the bent iPad camp.

I couldn’t resist and finally checked my 12.9” cellular model.

It’s clearly bent along the short sides right where the dark gray antenna lines interrupt the sides.

I’m 1 week out from the 2 week return window, and I probably could get an exchange based on others’ reports on the forums of having this done. However, the bend doesn’t interfere with its function.

So it looks like the bends by the LTE lines are a factory defect and are shipping this way, and not happening in backpacks, or by regular usage. If anyone has an LTE iPad Pro that is not bent in these areas, and passes the Apple Pencil alignment test (see this post), then please post pics. Obviously you can use any flat object to compare, but if you have an Apple Pencil, it's easier as it's magnetic. I am curious to know if it's just some LTE iPads, or all (or most) of them due to the way they are built.

Personally, I would return it. I know you would not have noticed it if it wasn’t for this thread or you reading on this issue, which it must be minimal in the bend, but nonetheless, it’s your iPad, but I say why not take advantage of the exchange at your disposal.

I have the 11 inch and it’s not cellular, so I try the pencil test and it’s actually very flat. My returned 12.9 inch did show a slight, ever so slight bending. It was not a cellular model.

I didnt read through all 20 pages, so forgive me if its been mentioned but

Could the magnets possibly be one of the reasons for the bending? All of them seems bent towards the side where the smart folio magnets constantly pull on them

Good thought, but there are a few reports of these iPads being warped out of the box. It’s likely related to the placement to the magnets, but not necessarily when the device is snapped into a folio.

Can’t see it to be best. I think as mentioned the people having issues is how the iPad has come and not anything the user has done with it to make it like this.

I already have a small scratch on my 11"s screen and am contemplating to use one of my two repairs under apple care..but all this talk of the bending makes me really scared, as I have a vacation to thailand coming up and am really worried now about the device sustaining some sort of bending and then I will need the repair more urgently... what to do, what to do...?

I mean I saw people complain about the bending iPhone 6, not s**t sherlock, stuff it in your back pocket and sit down, rinse and repeat several times and a thin device is going to bend.

I'm so sick of reading this awful shout. When I got my 6 in early 2015, I put a case on it and I completely babied the thing, I didn't put it in any pockets. A week or so after I got it, I took the case off to give it a clean - it was a snug case, took a little bit of effort to get off, but nothing out the ordinary - and after that, my phone was very noticeably bent. The iPhone 6 was an absolute joke and I got rid of it as soon as I could.

Conversely, I had my 6 in a standard Apple leather case, kept it in my pocket all the time, and it never bent or had any issues at all. Release day model.

Fortunately, I just need a tablet to do tablet things, nothing special. I am still happy with my Air 2, the only issue is the space, it was only 16GB. But hey, 4 years on I can buy the base model and still be happy with it and much more space.

Come back to me when the iPad can actually be a computer with macOS installed and have a mouse.

In Thailand, there is an apple store (@ICON siam) so if urgent just visit the apple store for repair.
