I think people need to stop defending Apple when they make a poo-poo. The fact that the iPads bend as easily as they do is a real issue. Even if you protect it in a very sturdy case, it completely negates the thinness and lightness of the device.

My old iPad Pro has a very slight curve to it, which is most likely from drawing on it. I've used it with a case that supports the whole back of the iPad. No big deal as it's hardly noticeable, but the device sure could have been made tougher.

The new iPad Pro is clearly weaker, which begs the question of how it will look after a year of use?

The aluminium Apple uses is soft as butter. Both the display on the front and the cover on the back are paper thin. There's no extra support on the inside. On top of that you have weak points in the frame.

After the iPhone 6 bend gate I would have expected Apple to take a little more care with the structural integrity. Like, at least use tougher materials and make it a little bit thicker.

When Apple makes poor decisions people should complain, not defend them.

Meanwhile, I'm going to baby my new iPad Pro and hope it stays in good shape.

The only way to 'complain' in the proper sense is to return the iPP if you feel that strongly, and stick it to them where they care: sales.

Complaining on a forum, or having reservations, but still buying the product communicates zip (imo)

Not saying you should be the sole one to do it, but complaining and still buying is the same as telling everyone on the streets you love your iPad and buying it... i think. At least at this point, since everyone is aware of iPads existing.

I think theyll get the message when more and more people return it and they have to keep replacing them.

I am not gonna return it and get a refund. I like using mine too much. But yes the sleakness and thinness in this line is definitely a bit troubling. Also why I want no part of the new macbook lines. They're too thin. My MBP 2012 is just thick enough to be sturdy but not thin enough to feel its flimsy.

Welp. I've only had my iPad Pro for like 2 weeks, and it's already bent at the halfway mark where the pencil attaches to the magnet.

I spent $90 on the UAG case at Best Buy (here in USA) since it was the only durable looking one that was available that didn't block the charger for pencil. Thankfully where I am there's an Apple Store here unfortunately I wasn't able to get a Genius appointment until the day after tomorrow.

This is the first iPad of any kind I've ever purchased and I love using this thing. So a little disappointed my first one has this issue. Really hope Supcase comes out with a full body case soon. This UAG case is a bit more solid than a foliocase but definitely not as sturdy as an otterbox would be.
Not even an Otterbox defender will save this lemon. Return the new frail 2018 iPad, and get a 2017.

I am feeling confident that my 12.9 pro will remain safe in my otter box case while traveling in my tumi alpha 2 backpack. Have no worries. Will also have to travel with separate magic keyboard in canopy case. Honestly this is the better keyboard compared to the Smart Keyboard case. Love the new iPad.

By voicing reasonable complaints others may see the same issues you do, and ultimately decide not to buy the products.

Usually though, in regards to Apple, the complaints and the defenses are very unreasonable.

My 11” LTE has an almost inperceptible bend at the top antenna line in portrait, noticeable only when looking across it sideways on. Tried taking some pics but cant seem to focus the camera sufficiently to convey what I’m seeing.

I’m not unduly concerned at this point, only notice it held up to the light at a very specific rotation. Will keep an eye on it though, I do believe it’s signicantly more susceptible than previous iPads and I’ll push very hard indeed for a replacement should it get worse.

Keep it in Keyboard Folio and a decent quality Harbor leather sleeve when travelling. Carried in padded laptop compartment of a Brenthaven bag (not backpack), no pressure from either side of compartment. Used similar combo with all previous iPads, never bent. Had a 6 Plus, never bent.

Lol only would someone purchase an Apple product worth $1000, have a bend on it, and be okay with it.

I planned on returning mine but have held off due to the holiday return policy. I also have a 11” iPad Pro with LTE and can see a slight bend/bow when looking at a certain angle.

Otherwise the iPad is perfect so I’m honestly debating what to do. Every 11” LTE iPad Pro I’ve seen has the same issue when viewed from that angle. I figure I’ll give it another couple weeks before I make my final decision.

Haha, I see your point. However, the reality is that currently it’s almost imperceptible - so small, in fact, I’m not absolutely certain it’s not just my mind playing tricks. If it gets worse, I won’t hesitate to return. Plus, given I’m careful with devices (always caseless, bar keyboards, as I’m not at all clumsy), if mine does end up bending, I can only imagine huuuuuge numbers of “normal” users will have bent ones and it’ll become a known issue. In which case, exchanging it won’t be a problem.

Older en iPads; 9.7”, 10.5”, 12.9” had the exact same bending propensity, I have older iPad Pros that are bent to prove that this is normal for 6-7mm thick devices that are 8x11" or 6x8 long or wide, plus... science. ;)

lol.

I was set to buy iPad Pro 11" but have decided not to because of the bend issue. It sounds like bending is a common problem and everyone can expect it to some extent. Paying $800 and Apple doesn't even make it thick enough or strong enough to resist light pressure is bad design.

I assume that there are two ways to solve the issue: 1) make it thicker, 2) use steel like the new iPhones have?

What about the iPad (6th Gen). Is this more bend proof?

Steel can still bend, and since it’s stronger it would be much harder to try and bend it back without cracking the glass.
Sure it would do better then the iPP now, but barely, it’s better if Apple adjusts the design slightly (like enforce the entire structure underneath (especially the charger for Apple Pencil and random microphone in center of side.)

Looking at the videos that are out there it's clear that it takes less force to bend the new iPad Pro.

Apple Genius Bar at the Apple Store was going to charge me $50 to swap it out (with AppleCare) and even with the fact I've only had it for not even 2.5 weeks.

Going to Best Buy and they said they would just do a clean swap out. It's past the 15 day normal return policy but the holiday return policy extends to January. I really hope a better more enforced case comes out soon.

I don't know how much more careful I can be with this thing considering I use it everyday and already treat it like a delicate baby. They better fix this before more and more people complain about how easily bendable it is. Maybe they're using this to test their new bendable phone technology. lol.

Are you sure it's not a trick of the light? Have you checked it e.g. with a steel ruler?

Exactly. I think some of these bend reports are just that - tricks played on the eye by light and angle. People are being overly sensative about the bending issue. You have to remember a person is more likely to report a bend than to report a unit that isn’t bent. What we are seeing on here with bends is such a minuscule percentage of total iPad percentages. I would bet those with bent iPads make up less than half a percent of all iPads purchased.

No, that takes significantly more force than the bend tests of the 2018 iPad Pro's.

Yes. Absolutely. Anything of this size will bend with pressure applied, from the first iPad to the 2018 iPad Pros. The same amount of force will bend all of them.
