I'm still a bit shocked people are still surprised or upset that the new iPad Pro's bend, take a look at this 2mm thicker and smaller body iPP 2016 that (should have had a little tougher time bending than the current iPPs) but it still bent with hardly any effort. The 10.5" bent just as easily as the 2018 iPP does.
Seriously, this should show everyone that the current iPads bending or coming bent isn't new or some conspiracy. I see it as just thinner pieces of aluminum so they will bend and get damaged more easily... but If I recall correctly, many people wanted thinner iPads, I imagine Apple for the 10-year anniversary will use 7000 aluminum and their special glass... but they will still bend.
In 2015-2017 I saw hundreds of threads on MR, Apple.com, and other forums about iPad Pros gen 1-2 "bending by themselves" coming bent in package, bending with a case on them, and then being able to bend them easily with your hands or in a backpack.
So.... ALL METAL bends, I can bend a bar of steel with relative ease so I am not at all surprised that these new 5.9mm iPads bend.

Kallum.

I am more shocked and surprised that people here think Apple is the only company that makes a tablet and therefore nothing else exists that could bend...

Take any tablet and apply the same test and the vast majority will fold just as fast if not faster.

I have have just checked, and can find no bending on my iPad Pro 12.9” 2018.

Of course they will bend and if you think yours will be subject to pressures that might cause bending, put in a protective case appropriate to your use. That is the easy answer to the problem

Seems you’re dismissing this specific bending issue more than necessary. The amount of feedback Apple likely has received on this, is concerning enough where you can be assured they will have engineers looking into this and future modifications are very likely to Make the necessary adjustments with either strengthening the aluminum or adding chassis support.

Is it a major issue? Likely not. But neither was the iPhone 6 bending and look how Apple addressed that the following year with the 7000 series aluminum used in place for the 6s.

Just was looking at my 9.7” pro I bought summer 2018, it was kept in a hard shell case for 8 months (used with care and love) but it’s slightly curved.. I vote no more tin foil hats or complaining that the new iPP is a monstrocity made by Apple to make en extra buck without using quality parts.
Can we all just start using basic understanding of physics and logic here? Sure, it sucks the past few models of iPads can bend a tad easier or come bent somehow... but they are not the only tablets or computers with that issue. The reason it seems like a huge deal is because iPads are the best of the best and sell the most. I’d wager that only a small 0.0000001% of the millions manufactured and shipped are affected.

Just my $0.2... again. lol

Here's a DIY fix!

Disassembling the iPad dislay and applying a clamp is Multiple spots on the casing is hardly a ‘DIY’, that sounds more like... ‘I had no idea what I was doing by watching some random guy on YouTube and just voided my warranty with my iPad” type of method.

It's totally DIY.
Warranty voided? For sure, but still DIY.

Point is, you’re making it sound easier than what it is, when in fact is, it’s not, and one should just contact Apple either for a new device/replacement option versus dissassembling the iPad and using a hardware clamp to fix the bending on an iPad, which could potentially make the situation worse. There isn’t much logic behind that video, especially Being Apple is open to the issue.

Point taken, but...

I never said it would be easy, it most certainly won't be easy.
But there might be some out there who may have voided their warranty who could try this and fix it themselves.

I doubt anyone with a warranty would bother.
Personally, I thought he did a good job at straightening the chassis.

It nice to see someone not trying to bend one with the purpose of destruction.

Welp. I've only had my iPad Pro for like 2 weeks, and it's already bent at the halfway mark where the pencil attaches to the magnet.

I spent $90 on the UAG case at Best Buy (here in USA) since it was the only durable looking one that was available that didn't block the charger for pencil. Thankfully where I am there's an Apple Store here unfortunately I wasn't able to get a Genius appointment until the day after tomorrow.

This is the first iPad of any kind I've ever purchased and I love using this thing. So a little disappointed my first one has this issue. Really hope Supcase comes out with a full body case soon. This UAG case is a bit more solid than a foliocase but definitely not as sturdy as an otterbox would be.

Second trip with the 12.9 packed into a backpack with a laptop and a bunch of other crap. No bending, no trouble using it on an seatback tray. I’ll keep an eye on it on the return trip, but so far, so good.

I had mine packed with my MBP (2012), and a bunch of other stuff on my trip out of the country. I have it in a SwissGear backpack. It won't fit in the standard tablet slot next to the laptop slot, but there is a second zipper layer where it fits perfectly. Sad it's bent. Love using this thing everyday. Really wish Otterbox Defender or Supcase comes out with theirs asap.

did yours bend in the UAG case?
yep. Will post a pic.

now that is pretty bad.

YIKES! the case looks more sturdy than my Apple folio and it got bent anyway.

Yeah, I was wondering why when I pulled the tablet out of my tablet slot in my SwissGear backpack (which is padded pretty nicely for the tablet), the pencil seemed to just be looser than normal.

The UAG is definitely more sturdier than the folio, and I only got it because it's the only one that didn't block the pencil to be charged.

I think this is why case developers have a conundrum with this iPad Pro. People don't want to have to remove the case everytime just to charge the pencil (if the case goes all the way around the perimeter of the IPP). And at the same time, a lot of people want a case that's solid to protect this iPad but still allows the pencil to charge.

At this point I wish Apple would allow wireless charging to the Pencil via Apple Watch charger or any wireless phone charger pad. I don't have an apple watch, but I'd buy the wireless charger for it just to charge the pencil if it meant buying a case that is fully solid all the way around.

I want to get a Supcase (because they offer a cover for the charging port when you're not using it or I wouldn't mind getting the Otterbox Defender because of how solid and stable they are. This tablet is obviously sleeker and thinner so I want a case that will protect it better than your standard folio since I travel with it in my backpack everyday and use it outdoors sometimes.

Damn, that is bad. Not saying you're lying, but my experience has been similar to numerous iPads before, I have traveled quite a bit and more this week, and see nothing like that. Hard to imagine that doesn't happen without a lot of force, but I will not question you and take you for your word. Hope Apple replaces that, can't see how they won't unless you get a genius convinced otherwise. Good luck bud.

Holy smokes - that’s horrible. Did you have any other bulky items in your bag? Looks like something pushed in on it in the middle. Sorry to see that!

I have a few things in my travel bookbag. I have Apple TV (which I wrap around with a cloth). But I'm pretty good at packing and weight distribution since I've been traveling long enough to where I know how to protect each item from getting crushed by other stuff. I don't have anythign heavy in the bag besides my MacBook Pro, but they each have hteir own padded pocket. The rest of the stuff in the bag are just cables (hdmi cable), MBP charger, Bose Noise Cancelling HP (with its own case) and a bagsmart bag where I put all my cables, mouses, phone chargers, etc. While this is my first iPad of any kind, I have traveled with my Android tablet longer and never had any issues with it bending placing it in the same spot. This is a first for me.

I checked Bestbuy for user reviews. Just fair.

Just saw your updated post. One of the reviews says UAG recalled it and it was never intended to hit the shelves. Sounds like they knew it was poorly designed. Now I have to figure out if Best Buy will give me the full refund for it, or if I need to get a refund from UAG.
