Seems quite flimsy, managed to bend it back somewhat. Hopefully the next Pro doesn’t suffer from this.
I am sure this has been covered here already, but it looks like the structural integrity of the iPad pro is compromised around the charger area due to the cut out in the aluminum for the apple pencil to attach and charge. That seems to be the weak point and in the floor model I looked it, the bend breaks away from that area.
I think one can baby this, but like others have said, placing it in any kind of bag exposes it to coming in contact with various hits or pressures that could cause bending.
I was being general. Wasn't directed at youUh. Who’s bashing! If you don’t know the difference between constructive criticism of an issue vs hateful bandwagoning you should take a break from the internet
Been putting mine in a soft-sided leather briefcase everyday for 5 months now. Multiple plane flights with it shoved in a nylon backpack. Still flat as the day I purchased it and still works flawlessly.
Interesting....
A case doesn’t protect it either??? Wow. Also, the rep has never seen a 3rd gen iPad Pro and isn’t aware of the issue. SERIOUSLY?
Apple staff are contractually required to say they're not aware of issues that they're aware of.
Flawlessly? You don't get the screen becoming unresponsive to touch?
STM Dux PlusJust realized my 5 months old ipad pro 12.9 WIFI was slightly bent as well. I've had multiple exchanges before I settle with this unit and I made sure from day one it was perfectly flat. I usually carry it in a special padded laptop pocket in my packpack, with a thin magnetic protective cover, same thing I used to do with my old 2nd gen 12.9. Babied it from the start. This is really disappointing.
I hope it's clear by now that no matter what, it is more fragile than the older gens and it is bendable without too much force.
Had to spend the last 2 hours unbending it by hand with the help of a big slab of flat glass, so that I could tell 100% which corner was off. I'm satisfied with the result but the bitter taste is still in my mouth.
I do not recall a day in my life where I had trouble putting it in or removing it from the backpack. I do not carry heavy stuff or overload the backpack at all.
So next step now is find a case that can provide a reinforced structured.
Does anyone know a solid case of metal maybe or thick plastic, preferably just in the back so it's not bulky on the sides?

I was in the neighborhood of my local Apple store today on my lunch hour, and so I checked out the iPad Pros, and they felt thin and flimsy. My 10.5 iPAd Pro by contrast feels more sturdier, I like the increased real estate that the newer models have, improved stylus and USB support but not at the risk of bendingProbably right around the time your warranty expires too. Start preparing for the class action suit now. Document your bending.

Otterbox Symmetry Series 360.

I’ve just been through airport hell with mine, numerous flights and delays, 18 hours in a bag, and previously I dragged it left and right. It’s around 5-6 months old now, carrying it in a slim Incase bag every day alongside a MacBook Pro and a bulky 87W charger, a large Logitech mouse and a bunch of cables. Still perfect, straight. I also use it daily, for hours. So, I don’t know what others mean by “babying theirs”, I’ve been using mine normally and it’s perfect. I see that video, someone posted it above, where the iPad was clearly bent under some strong pressure (like, someone sat on it) and the guy claims he “babied it” - and the thing looks like a boomerang. “He just woke up one day and it was like that. Sure.
I think there are people who might have genuine problems, then people who accidentaly did something to theirs (and they might not even be aware) and then I feel as if some people are just making things up. Either way, I’m not going to read this scary thread anymore![]()
There's some of that to be sure, but I think like the iPhone bendgate, the iPad lacks internal structure to hold up against most normal day to day usage. I've seen a number of videos where the YTer purported to baby the iPad, yet it ended up bent.I think there are people who might have genuine problems, then people who accidentaly did something to theirs (and they might not even be aware) and then I feel as if some people are just making things up. Using my imperfect logic, if the older 10.5 didn't have a bending problems, but the thinner 11" does and for the most part nothing else changed, then it stands to reason the design is to blame and not the user.
Great experience with the Symmetry here too!Otterbox Symmetry Series 360. It’s protected mine from a drop of 3 feet onto ice back in March (landed on the corner.) Damn slippery sidewalks.
That same logic was used by many members here at MR for the bendgate. "It didn't happen to me, so it must not be a problem" mentality. Regardless of how many people enjoy a perfect iPad, there are those dealing with it bending fairly easily.Well, I don’t know, my iPad has been holding up pretty well against normal day to day usage. But then again, so did my iPhone 6 back in the day, so I may be the wrong person to talk about it.
