I'm looking forward to the iPad with the rectal display. That is the display that reminds what in pain in the @ss it is when some says, "Hey, is that an iPad?" and inside I want to say, "No dipstick, it's a kite, wanna help me hold the string?"

Frankly speaking: There will always be updates till the time Humans exist and there will be better ones. You may as well wait for 3 yrs until the iPad comes in a foldable screen you can put in your waller (who knows?)... if you need it, purchase it now ($500-$800 isn't really that bad - i mean you're purchasing a car here).
Many posts exists on the common uses of it, some suggest video watching while other suggest internet browsing and then people like me like to make the best of all things -- research and read and if the uses sound like something that could benefit you then purchase it. I hope this helps.
Lastly, I don't mean to be rude but I have to say in general most people won't care regarding your purchasing decision... it's more of forum where probs and new ideas with suggestions and solutions can be posted. Keep that in mind next time you post such a vague topic :)

Doubling the display resolution on the iPad would actually bring the resolution to something not too far off from my 27" iMac.

It would require a mid end dedicated GPU just to run the basic UI :p

Oh and forget games and videos haha.

I have decided the iPhone 4G makes the iPad look alot less magical. To make it a killer ereader they need to have the same pixel density as the iPhone 4, so type gets the appearance of printed text. Then the iPad can fullfill it's destiny as a replacement for textbooks, etc. Add the front and back cameras and iMovie and FaceTime and I will get it. Until then I am waiting.

What does anyone else think?

Ipad and iphone are two different devices. They are running same OS, but the screen sizes are very different, and developers are going to write applications based on those screen sizes.

Apple ipad is already way ahead of kindle and other ebook readers. I understand about you wanting those killer features, but Apple always want to leave a room for next version. It is very unlikely you will see Retina display on ipad. 300 pixels per inch on ipad? Very unlikely. I doubt apple will focus on back camera, either. I think front camera will be very likely. You have a better chance on praying for OLED than asking for retina display on ipad.

iPad Refresh ?

Any chance Apple could put the iPad on a 6 month cycle ?

That would be just in time for the Holiday season !

I know iPhones and iPods are yearly , but could Apple put the iPad on a different cycle ? 9-5Mac was talking about a new display for the iPad may not be as far away as some think ?

Apart from the top people at apple know one actually knows when the iPad will be refreshed. Anything that you read here is purely speculation, however, I'll speculate that it won't be updated before the holidays.

What other hardware product that Apple has that is on a 6 month cycle? In order for this to happen Apple would need to already be working on the iPad 3 (Apple was working on the iPhone 4 for 6 months before the 3GS came out). Based upon the product cycles on their other products and just how a 6 month cycle doesn't seem feasible I would bet against it.

I can't see a refresh in the first year. They can't meet demand now and they haven't launched worldwide yet. Apple doesn't refresh products for fun, they refresh because sales are starting to tail off. Currently there isn't even a viable competitor to the iPad yet. HP Slate - Postponed, MS Courier - Cancelled.

Lets not be too quick to dismiss the Jo Jo. A whooping 90 preorders, 15 of which were cancelled.

Yep, posted from the iPad.:apple::apple::apple:

I think your mistaken only 15 were kept and 75 were cancelled.:D

Sent from my iPad.

That's a very valid point about supply and demand with the current model.

That makes total sense. They can't meet current demands.

On a different note , why would they release a new product that operates on the iPhone operating system and not have an update for iOS till September ?
Why do we have to wait till September and the iPhones will be running on the new OS next week ? I mean that OS has been in the works for some time obviously , why wouldn't they consider getting it ready at the same time for the iPad ? Too much for them to handle at once ?

Because there are things like printing that the iPad needs more than a phone. September gives them more time to roll out iOS 4.1. And, since there is usually a September iPod event, it gives Apple one more thing to talk about. Just a guess.

The iOS 4.0 team wasn’t aware of the iPad team’s efforts until the iPad was officially unveiled by Steve Jobs in January. It was developed in secret away from the iOS team.

That’s why the iPad runs an iPad-only build of iOS, 3.2. The rumor is once iOS 4.2 ships, the iPhone and iPad will remain in sync from there on.

Could be... the second iPhone was only 6 months after the first, before it went to the annual cycle.

About the only possibility for a 6 month refresh would be a 128GB model. However the 64GB chips are still too expensive and not enough available for Apple to start using.

I was wondering what happens once iOS 4 is out next week for phones & touches with running iPhone apps on iPad.

Seems they forgot to mention that we'd stop being able to run iPhone apps for a few months until 4 is out for iPad.

Maybe i'm wrong, but does the SDK for iOS 4 allow you to target iPad or do you have to use 3.2 SDK for iPad?

So once 4 is out can developers still target 3.1.3/3.2 as universal???

Perhaps an update (maybe minor) is around the corner (OK probably not but might happen for the WIFI fix)

It will be "refreshed" with iOS4, and 4.1 and 4.2 ...

The hardware won't be refreshed for as long as they're selling them faster than they can make them.

What will suck is that when people get an iPad for Xmas and then it's refreshed at the beginning of April. So basically, you'll have the newest model for a good 3 months. In my opinion, and as an apple fanatic, it would bother me to get something that close to a refresh.

I was just watching the WWDC keynote again and I noticed Steve said there would be x amount of FaceTime devices in 2010. That gives me the impression we're going to see another Apple device supporting FaceTime before 2011. It does seem too soon for an iPad refresh, but you have to expect the retina display, gyroscope and probably the front facing camera to come to the iPad.

Couldn't FaceTime devices just mean that it'll get added to the Mac Books and iMac in an OS X update? As far as iPad refresh, January 2011 is just 7 months away.

The next face time device will be the 4th generation touch and may be the 6th generation nano. The second generation iPad may have it by the hardware refresh in the spring.

May be apple will create a digital camera/camcorder with wifi and Bluetooth and face time bulit in?

The only iPad update I see possible before 2011 is an addition of a 128gb model
Just like they did with the first gen touch, released in the fall and about 6 months later in the spring they added a 32gb model
