This may sound crazy: but I was thinking of buying at the Apple Store and not opening it. And then see if UPS comes through. Open the UPS-delivered one. Return the AS-purchased one. Crazy?

I'm south of there.... gosh i hate that store, but i didn't know they sold Apple there since after the horrid customer service i have no interest in going back. I'll have to be-bop by some day since i'm there 3 days a week though just to see. That store isn't that much bigger than ours though....
If you're bored and waiting for your shipment to arrive, you could go look up past UPS shipments to your house and try and guess what time it's going to come. Since most of my shipments are during the week, it may not mean anything...but hey...it's something to keep your mind off it.By the way, in a sampling of 6 UPS shipments (all ground) the arrival time ranged from 11:30AM to 3:30PM. I did have one for 9:30 but that shipment was specifically for "Next Day, Before 10:00AM".
Normally it is 10:30a for me but, considering I am actually here for once, it's going to come at 11:43a.
Not crazy. It hedges your bet and guarantees you'll have one tonight. If it comes on Monday then you'll have to get involved with the refund business.
I've been there - once - during my travels around the state. I recalled an Apple section. Verified it with Best Buy's website just now. They may be stocked today. I've heard from friends who went to BB here in Jax that there were many more than the 15 rumored.
In defense though, it seems like a lot of people got their iPad after 10 and its 10 here.

Ok, I hope it is out for delivery because it does not take 2 hours to go from Ontario to San Bernardino...unless they went by way of Palm Springs...I could have driven to Ontario and back by now....and synced it and started playing with it...stupid UPS....

It takes me about 40 minutes to drive up there (23 miles, probably longer on a saturday with the old peeps out).

Talked to a friend of mine who is a manager at a local Best Buy. Best Buy got 40 of each model, but no accessories.

I kinda don't trust refusing packages. I did that with a package from Dell once and it screwed over my account status there. I'll always accept the package now and go through the procedures to return it via mail order if for some reason I don't want it.
I swear it's taken me that long once.... on my way TO palm springs or back.

I got the same status, except it doesn't say next business day, rather service is not available to destination. Sucks. If I had known it was UPS instead of FedEx and that BB would have them, I would not have preordered mail. Why did they launch on a fricken Saturday?!?!?! Stupidest thing ever... How do some customers get it and others don't.
Apple iPad Launch is an EPIC FAIL. I'd rather wait in line on Sat, then wait til Monday when I am away at work.

That is a very good question indeed. Avenger's post about his hassle with Dell means I won't be refusing delivery if I go the Apple Store route.
