ouch. unfortunately that is the message that is displayed if your area is not delivering saturday. :(

Yes I actually do live in a dorm. I was wondering if I could call UPS up and ask them to deliver it to my dorm.

Do you guys think that would work?

You could try it but UPS doesn't usually redirect package deliveries.
I've tried it before.

I had those messages also, but...

Now my tracking info looks normal and the weird messages do not even show up anymore. So maybe some of this will be cleaned up today???

I just got off the phone with Apple regarding the exception I received from UPS in the OP. They said, they just received word from "corporate" headquarters yesterday to reassure everyone that no matter what exception message they see, they will get iPads out guaranteed on Saturday. The CS rep said that they are working closely with shippers to make sure everyone gets theirs on Saturday, regardless of where they live or what services are available. I figured this was the case, but that specific exception freaked me out a little bit. So I guess Ill just be waiting patiently on Saturday like the rest of us...

Calling UPS to redirect the package will not work. Usually they have to make at least one delivery attempt. When I was in college, all packages were delivered to the mailroom and they signed for everything. Then we got a card in our box saying we had a package. Im not sure how your college's mail system works but, if its anything like mine was, theyll sign for it and you just have to go get it. The tricky part is getting it before your mail room closes. Mine used to close at noon on Saturdays.

Singing the Stuck in Shenzhen Blues since 03/29.

Oh..that is my favorite song! ;)

Oh really? My case which I ordered the 12th says "Ships on April 15 delivered by April 20th" but I upgraded the shipping by calling back so it will come faster. That is on the same order for my 3G 32 GB iPad. The ing coming now is a 16 wifi for my mom :p

I ordered my 64 GB Ipad, the case and the VGA adapter on 3/12 at the same time and just requested regular shipping rather than expedited. Yesterday my shipping info pretty much matched everyone else's on the forum, Shenzen into KY..brokerage, blah blah blah, then last night when I got home from dance class I checked it and it said it would be in Fort Worth, Texas at 9:00 a.m. 3/31 with UPS INTERNAL ACTIVITY. Today all shipping info has disappeared from the tracking tally except for the billing information received and origin scan in Shenzen.

As for the case and the VGA adapter, neither has shipped yet and the apple store simply has the message " Ships by April 3"... Silly me. I had hoped they would all arrive on the same day

I got my update today. Here's to hoping it makes it on time! :D

SHENZHEN, CN 03/31/2010 12:24 A.M. ORIGIN SCAN

she's on her way!
Well, mine has updated to this now:

SHENZHEN, CN 03/30/2010 3:01 A.M. ORIGIN SCAN
CN 03/30/2010 1:20 A.M. BILLING INFORMATION RECEIVED

And the Exception is gone and it now says In Transit! w00t! Getting closer!
actually, it IS getting closer so long as it is on the two planes I am tracking right now :)

Ehh, mine's still in Shenzhen. Probably going to ship out today, just like the other ones were shipped out yesterday. Does anyone know what plane they're going to be on?

well it probably has shipped out if the billing info got updated - because now UPS has all of the info it needs to proceed with shipment.

Eithe UPS63 from Hong Kong or (more likely because these flights never existed before Monday:) UPS 71 from Guangzhou. They arrive at around 5-6 PM EST in PANC Anchorage.

ahh okay. Well that Internal Activity means that UPS has the hold request from apple and sent it to your local sort facility. It says 9 am because it is the open of the next business day, when that post will receive and file that request for when your package arrives there.

Thank you TechDude! You are a pleasure to share a forum with. There is something simultaneously comforting and frustrating about knowing that your Ipad is safely ten miles or so from your house...BUT I WANT IT SOOOOO BADLY!!!! :)

Haha thanks!

And lmao - trust me I feel the same way, and technically this isn't even MY ipad. But I will be (unofficially) until the 3G comes later this month :D

Still no tracking number here. Looking at everyone else's shipments, if they shipped it today, it should be here on Friday for Saturday delivery, right? Gettin' kinda anxious here >.<

Well realize apple is under a LOT of stress alog with UPS and things have been kind of slow to update.

As long as it says prepared for shipment and you ordered it before march 26th and it says delivered by 4/3 you should be fine.

It may just be the fulfillment and final assembly factory in Shenzhen has not yet updated it's info with the tracking numbers provided by ups. And apples systems may not be updated yet either.

And who's know - it may not even update at all - rarely does it happen, but some companies' systems are so delayed the product delivers before the site updates.

If anything I am sure that apple can call a store manager near you and reserve you an ipad because of the inconvinience or something. Or maybe instead give you free stuff - but that is something I don't exxpect to happen. You will get it soon enough :)

Take this with a grain of salt. So out of boredom I called UPS and "Chiquita" the CSR said my ETA is Friday by 10:30am. I obviously do not believe her but asked if there was a hold placed by apple which she said at the moment she did not see a hold so they have to go by what is in their system. My current status on ups.com is...

LOUISVILLE, KY, US 03/31/2010 2:38 A.M. SHIPMENT IS HELD TO VERIFY COMMODITY DESCRIPTION WITH THE CUSTOMER FOR CORRECT CLASSIFICATION / BROKERAGE RELEASED SHIPMENT. SHIPMENT IS SUBMITTED TO CLEARING AGENCY FOR FURTHER CLEARANCE

You'll get it around 12AM-9AM. I got mine a 1:18AM, because in China, it's 12 hours ahead from EST, and I think that's the work hours for the shipping faculty in China.

dont worry...you will get yours by Saturday...it is just a matter now of all the systems updating at the same time and with UPS ancient systems..that wont happen. I can remember a few weeks back getting a package delivered from Amazon and the tracking stated it hadnt even left the shipper yet...so I dont believe anything on their systems even though mine is sitting safe and sound in KY now...

Also, in my experience, tracking info is hardly reliable. One time UPS had scanned a package OUT FOR DELIVERY from my local office. This was a Christmas present for my Father-in-law and come 8PM UPS still had not delivered it. I came to find out that the package never made it to my local office and was still at a hub over 3 hours away. UPS could not explain how the OUT FOR DELIVERY scan happened let alone from a location 3 hours away.

With that said, We will get our iPads by the third. Heck, some lucky guys and gals may get them early. If so, I think it will be purely UPS ineptness if anything.

UPS delivery

No package can enter the United States without clearing customs.Thats why Shenzen is the start point , as well as the manufacturing point. Guangzhou is the departure point. By the time the package hits Anchorage, AK, Customs have been cleared. The contract with UPS probably goes something like UPS pays for any package delivered before April 3rd. and a no confidence vote for future UPS contracts from APPLE!!

Mine is scheduled for a Saturday AM delievery. At least that is what UPS told me. A buddy of mine got his downgraded because Saturday AM is not available in his area and he will receive his iPad by 5PM Saturday.

How did he know it was downgraded? Is there a way to tell without calling up UPS customer service?

Yup. With UPS WorldEase Express with Saturday Delivery, times for delivery are usually 12 noon in most areas, 1PM in more rural areas. Like your friend, he doesn't have AM delivery available so his will be delivered before the end of business day, which I guess he said 5 PM (depends on the area).

I checked in with a friend of mine that works in UPS customer relations and he told me they are getting just bombarded with calls from Apple customers, so much so that they put on 24 hour extra agents to handle the call volume. He did say that depending on your area, if saturday delivery is not available, they are not able to deliver until Monday. This conflicts with what the agent told me this morning at UPS. I am a "prime candidate" he told me since they do have Saturday delivery in Boston, and they will try to deliver before noon but with this type of volume, they can say by end of day Saturday...he also said status will not change from KY, until possibly tomorrow or Friday in the tracking section..
