Um.... What is the "Reference Number"? It just popped up on my tracking..

Its antoher number that the shipper can use to track the shipment.

For example Apple uses its own internal numbers, as well as your phone number and the web order number.

So a suggestion to those without tracking numbers: go to www.ups.com, click on tracking, click on "track by Reference" and put in your web order number along with the shipping zip code and see if anything comes up.

if it does, thats you iPad !!!

Not sure I understand how this helps, but here you go!

Basically you can "validate" your account (saying that you are the account holder) by placing in the account number along with the pickup zip, and you can get access to advanced features and abilities (like being able to request a hold or send your shipment to a different address).

I can't do that though because Apple's account number isn't linked with their tracking numbers like other smaller accounts. And plus I don't want UPS killing me for breaking their ToS. lol.

Back on the phone with Apple. They are doing their best at "saying" that a package cannot have the delivery address changed. They are checking to make sure which address it is exactly is going.

They said that a "re-route" would essentially be pointless to get it on Saturday.

Still on the phone... Back in a minute... They are checking to see what would happen if UPS delivered to my in-law's address but they said to send it back to my home...

Quick Question - How could my iPad have shipped, when I have absolutely no charges on my credit card?

Your credit card may not reflect the charges yet - it can take anywhere from seconds to days for the charge to actually appear. Thats just credit cards :(

Yea let me know what they say.

Yup no luck. They said that a "re-route" would require UPS to attempt one delivery and if I were to get the iPad re-routed my in-laws would have to "completely avoid" the UPS guy. They said that if they talked to the UPS guy and told him it was re-routed that they might take it as a "denial of shipment" and have the iPad sent all the way back to wherever apple takes denied shipments.

The personal opinion of the apple guy I talked to said that my best bet would be to have my in-laws receive the package and then ship it back to me. Yes, it will cost me money but luckily finances don't really matter plus there are bigger things to be concerned about...

Yea I hear ya...

It does stink you have to pay again but I guess that's okay... at least you will know its safe and sound in the time being :)

Well good luck to you and your family, and I hope everything turns out well - both for your iPad and your family member :D

Wahoo! First Post!

Joining the Apple family with a 16gb iPad. I've been lurking on here for awhile watching and learning about everyone's shipping situations. I ordered mine 4 mins after presales went online. My bad boy is headed to Vegas!

OHHO SCHWEET! Tell your iPad to say hi to mine. :D

We all may be plane buddies - mine was origin scanned at 8 AM local, so we all seem to be right around the same time - except your guys' are so close they are on the same pallet!!!

Anyways, if you want to see something interesting, track your package by reference (your order number or 9-digit phone number). It seems that Apple sent the Shipping Info twice for some people, so searching by that will give you two different strings of package details, however everything including the tracking number is identical EXCEPT the billing info times.

My 'normal" package says 4:50 AM on 3/31, yet the "second" package said 11:50 Am local time on 3/31.

So whatever the reason, either Apple or UPS, they got the billing info twice - which may explain why it took so long for my package to get updated - maybe the original info was corrupt of wrong (for example containing the wrong references or the wrong service) and they resent it.

haha it was interesting on the phone with the Apple guy though... never the less, I am going to head out for the night.

Gentlemen, I will talk to you all soon. And we will certainly see if our packages get on that 7 AM(EST) from Guangzhou tomorrow morning :) Goodnight, and happy tracking;)
