Well the 'they'll have them Sunday' theory only works if the stores were withholding them.

Mind you BB gets its iPads through FedEx, so the earliest they could get them is Monday. Here's to hoping that they've got 'em.

how does the apple store get its ipads?

All the stores in the Triangle area of NC are sold out today. They said that they'd have them, at the earliest, Monday since Fedex delivers them, but it wasn't likely. I expect they'll get shipments midweek if they get them at all.

I don't see the reason to link back to your conspiracy theory but depending upon the way a store is managed I doubt people are withholding iPads. The problem is one of supply and not some mass conspiracy to keep ipads out of the hands of customers. Notwithstanding, there's an inventory system in BB where they can check stock of the store. This same system sort of fuels the backend of the online "store pickup" request when you add something to your cart. If some ass wad employee is holding an iPad that has not been purchased by him/her then it would still count in the system. If you ask and are turned down then ask a manager. It's that simple really.

+1

no conspiracy theory here. Just simple "we didn't order enough cause we didn't think they would sell theory".

In other words BB buyers should have ordered more Ipads instead of more washers and dryers.

Also this is a post Iphone world and everyone is familiar with the IPhone OS and wanted to a bigger version. Thus the mass demand for this item. F'n a Jobs, another homerun you turtle neck wearing genius.

Wilmington NC BB is out today. Not sure about when next delivery is. They have been getting 300 at a time, so I heard. (I'd figure 100 each model, but I didn't ask about that.) Selling as soon as they come in.

A Bowling Green KY Best Buy employee told me they've sold 199 units so far. All sold out and waiting on another shipment, could be any time in the next week.

I went to 3 Apple Stores in the SoCal area ( 3rd Street Promenade, Century City, Beverly Center ) and they were all sold out... *sigh* and no one could tell me when the next shipment was coming in, according to one "Genius" "The shipments are all random"

so yea... :/ I want my iPadz.

I wss in 3 OC stores over the weekend (Irvine, Newport, Costa Mesa) and not a IPad to be had and no eye deer when they would have them.

Both NYU's and SVA's computer stores in Manhattan has iPad in stock. I wonder if there are any left @ Tyson's Corner or Fairoaks....

I gave up and just reserved mine at the Apple store. I don't know if this is a new thing cause of the shortage or its always been this way but you can only reserve 1 iPad at the apple store. I only wanted one but the sales guy that helped me informed me the system only allows you to reserve 1.

yup, only 1 reservation per itunes account...i live in Braintree so i reserved one there, and then wanted to do it for the other close stores but ran into the same message.

funny story: I was checking the Derby Street store in Hingham on Tuesday (after they said they had some), when I got there the dude said there was some and started rambling off about Apple Care, etc (i was thinking to myself surely they must have a lot if he's just talking to me instead of grabbing my iPad)...and of course, he goes back to get it and comes back empty handed..."unfortunately, we're out now..the last one is being sold as we speak".

i've been calling every store within like 30min of boston put at this point just kinda sick of the reactions i get when i call...honestly the rudeness of people when i ask is pretty messed up (ok, i get it, im sure i'm one of 100 people that called asking that day, but still give me a break)...earlier in the week i called the braintree store and was told "yes, we have a few"...and i was at work so i asked "so, whats a few?" and the guy said "we i can't give out inventory details"...so i just told him i wasn't trying to bust balls, i just wanted to see if it was worth my time traveling from work (waltham) to home to get it, blah sorry im starting to rant but honestly its just annoying the way you get treated when calling these places.

for what its worth though, one gentlemen today did mention they wouldn't get any deliveries today and none tomorrow due to holiday (i think this was the burlington store)...i'm not sure if thats true or not but i'll be calling around again tomorrow and will post if i find any stores that have stock.

I went into the Eastview Mall (Victor, NY - outside of Rochester) Apple store last Tuesday and planned on buying a 32GB iPad. They only had the 64GB and like a dummy I said "no thanks" and reserved one because they said that it probably would only take a few days.

So I called back on Saturday morning at 9:05. They said they had limited quantities of the 16GB and 64GB models. I ran upstairs, showered and got dressed. I called again just to make sure before we drove out there, and they'd sold out. :(

Out of curiosity, are the Apple stores holding any iPads for customers for say, like 20-30 minutes until they get there to buy them? I'm assuming no, but I figured I'd ask.

Is ordering online out of question? Does it take too long?

Just curious.

ordered my ipad wifi only from apple 4/17

the email from apple order says april 24 - may 5...so when will they ship mine?

If you reserved one then your reservation is held until 6 PM local time the following day. So if you did reserve one then there was no need to rush. Hell, I got my e-mail, did more work and picked it up 8 hours after the e-mail. It was still there, go figure.

I'm not sure, but I read that as it *not* being his reservation he was going in for, just a verbal that they had stock. So maybe reservations are lagging too.

Wow, I feel for you all. I was out of the country the weekend of launch. Got back that Monday and walked out of an apple store with one in 5 minutes.

<--- San Diego.

I must have been lucky I guess?

Based purely on forum posts, it doesn't seem like the retail shortages really kicked in until the start of the second week.

damn I completely forgot about the holiday! I thought for sure it would be in tomorrow! (I reserved at the Peabody store.) Def let me know if you find any stock tomorrow. But I called every store in MA, NH, RI and ME with no luck on SAT. I almost drove to the Fifth Avenue store in NYC but they couldnt guarentee theyd have it by the time I got there.

That's what I meant. I'm still waiting on Apple to send me the legit "reservation" e-mail, but if I can pick one up before then it'd be great. :)

My school's bookstore has a mini-tech shop and they had iPads on display which attracted a lot of attention but even a couple weeks later their stock of around 30 had not sold out.

These things are flying off the shelves, I got lucky on Friday night at the
alderwood mall store in wa state, they only had 32gb models but my mom and I both bought one, I think they got a shipment in that day because almost everyone around the store had a bag with one in it. I think this is more popular than anyone could have thought.
