My pickup order is also listed as still in progress, phone call says the same. However they also seem to have them in stock at the store as well, so I will stop by the store regardless of whether I have an email.

I pre-ordered for in store pick up on Saturday 2 phones. Last night my update changed to preparing your order. I walked into the store when it opened and said i didnt get an email for ready for pick up but was told on the phone my order is good and will be ready and to go to the pick up line, which i did despite being worried that something would be wrong. Luckily i was wrong and walked out of there with my order. I did notice that being the cage in the mobile section there was many available for walk ins, but then a UPS truck arrived which may have contained more phones. So if you didnt get the email and you live close to the best buy for in store pick up, take the chance and see if they already put it aside like they did for many at the location i went to.
I would but i'm at work until 4 at least then i live an hour away. I had it sent to this store since it was near my office. Soooo don't really want to go there on lunch in traffic and leave and then go again after work if it isn't there yet. I really think i might just order the 1 hour pickup ones that don't seem to be reducing in stock online.
 
Ordered on Apple store after start/re-start on AT&T site 5 minutes after pre-order start time. Expected delivery 10/1 - 10-4. Saw this thread regarding Best Buy...cancelled Apple store order, and then ordered 11 Pro 256 Space Gray on Tuesday, 9/17 for in-store pickup. Kept showing "Preparing" with delivery 9/20. Nothing changed until Thursday afternoon when it showed "Preparing for in-store pickup". Received text late yesterday afternoon to call and set up appointment for pickup. Called and set up 8:30 this morning...took ~30 minutes and now in-hand. Never ordered through Best Buy before...have to give them kudos, at least for my experience this time!

True to his word, the manager from the Best Buy where I’m supposed to pick up my order, just called to let me know my phone is waiting for me. Heading out now...the store just opened.

*Also got the email shortly after.

Just returned from a store pickup. The phone was there, the trade-in process was smooth and the Verizon activation ... took an hour. But other than that I'm happy!
 
I am so annoyed at still sitting at pre-order status for my pickup when they have walk-in stock available... Absolutely NO MOVEMENT since ordering. I'm just going to cancel and place a new order for 1 hour pickup.

That's what I did. Ordered on Wednesday, saw NO movement, then canceled and placed a new order this morning. It was ready within an hour.
 
well its saying my phone number isn't eligible to upgrade since i havent cancelled my preorder yet. I wonder if it will make it instantly eligible again when i cancel? ugh... what a pain in the ass

I'm on Verizon and ran into the same problem. It took about 5 minutes after canceling for the ability to submit an order to be reinstated.
 
Just pulled a 180. Decided to go for the Midnight Green Max 512GB after having it in my hand for an hour. Finally walked out the Best Buy haha!

Hang in there. I ordered 2 phones on Tuesday and have had no movement at all. Still showed "Pre-Ordered" up until about an hour ago and it has been changed to "Preparing for in-store pickup". Both phones are out of stock all over my state yet my status changed. They have obviously set the pre-orders aside and are sorting through them now.
 
worked this time.... now lets see how long they think an hour is. I actually changed from going with the 256 to the 512 myself and I'm not trading in my iphone x . I think it will be faster to keep it. I'll just give it to my 11 year old. He will be stoked.

see already it at least says "preparing for pickup TODAY" the other one never even got that far.

Good luck! Keep us posted. Yeah, you won't have to wait to transfer your content and clear it off in front of them. Just take everything home and transfer your content over later.

Kudos to Best Buy, they did a great job this year. I was in and out in 20 minutes and they have me $400 for my iPhone X. Probably the most painless experience I’ve had in my dealings with them!

Ugh, all ya'll walk-ins getting your phones already! lol Not understanding this talk about phones shipping from local Best Buy stores. Mine shipped from Florida. Meanwhile, I'm surrounded by about 5 Best Buy stores in a 20 mile radius. Guess I'll just have to sit tight another hour or two.
 
Decided for the first time ever to try Best Buy out for launch day preorders. Ordered for pick up, everything going smoothly until today.

I was going to stop by BB after work to pick up me and my mother’s new phones, but at 11am this morning I get an email saying “Thanks for picking up your new phone!”

I’m internally freaking out. How is it even possible someone else picked up my phone or they claimed the wrong phone got picked up? You need ID, credit card, and your name has to match the account (ATT). Of course it’s also launch day so it’s taking forever to get through to anybody at the store. Waiting on hold right now still but at this point I might as well wait until I stop by physically. Just don’t wanna be there all night.

Never again am I giving them a preorder.
 
Sadly my in-store pickup order is still "In Progress" while also stating "Pickup available on Release Date: Fri, September 20". I stopped by my local store a little bit ago just to talk to a real person and see if my order was actually on premises. Unfortunately, the best the customer service person could offer is "maybe a UPS truck is running late". Basically, she didn't seem to know anything.

I'm glad other folks have had success with Best Buy. For me, though, the confidence that I'll have a phone in hand today, that confidence is beginning to sag.

Ordered last night for in store pick up today. Picked it up this morning, no problem. Kind of shocked they came through on such short notice. I have had problems with both phone and watch preorders with them in the past.

Was supposed to be getting today from Verizon, but as with a lot of people, they screwed my order up. Was able to cancel my launch day delivery, after I picked up my Best Buy order.
 
Yeah now they are sold out of my make and model. And no email saying my preorder is ready. Losing hope that I will get one today. Oh well.

why are they activating it for you? I usually just pick it up and activate it my self. I am not about to sit there and unbox a phone and wait on some jackass to to take 45 minutes. I'm going to take it to my office, pop out the simcard, pop in my old phone simcard and carry on about my day. I do not understand why these companies still make everything such a giant hassle. If you can get your phone shipped to you then why the hell do you have to stand in a store and let some teenager activate your device you could have done yourself?
