i don’t know. I heard FaceId wasn’t working in the dark. Like if you are watching something in your bed, or going outdoor in the night. but maybe it’s working. I only know that Touch ID work anytime and anywhere.
FaceID uses an Infrared point cloud scanner that illuminates your face with invisible-to-humans light. It works fine in the dark.

As a rebuttal, TouchID does not always work. When wearing gloves, in cold areas it is not the best option.

My parents own SE2/3 with TouchID and it had a hard time detecting their fingerprints! Oh what it is to be young! :)

No plans to get rid of my mini, it serves me well.
I am waiting for smaller flip/fold to see how they will be.
Otherwise, I haven't even replaced my battery yet.
So, long live the mini.

Yeah you might have to look on secondary used market for any non midnight colors
If y’all have T-Mobile they don’t carry 13 mini anymore but they have regular iPhone 13 and only midnight as well. No army green like the one on the green Apple Watch Series 7. Check eBay or Walmart for other colors offered.

Yep! They can be found on ebay. My access control system is a 125khz HID system. The fobs are easily clone-able to the T7755 RFID tags and rings.

And you are correct, the ring cant work as a payment card itself, but the Apple Watch can! My setup really is all I need when I leave without a phone. Leaving behind almost none of the functionality (minus a real browser).
That’s why you still wanted to bring along an iPad mini if you needed to let go of the iPhone 13 mini, right? I also watched a YouTube video where you can access the Internet browser on an Apple Watch without having to click on links on a random email or text, and uses WebKit to access it. Here is the video that contains Siri Shortcuts you can download to your iPhone, it will pass it to the Apple Watch to use it:

Links are in the description to download them, it is a better one than the one I watched before and all are demonstrated on an Apple Watch Ultra. Since it may limit the browser to reading and viewing pictures, use your iPhone if you want video playback or other things in safari.

So what’re we thinking after yesterdays event
I’ll keep using my 13 mini until it’s too slow. Then I will check what the market has to offer. If it’s an 18 mini, I’ll get that happily. If not, I’ll have to find another solution.
But, tbh, the event didn’t change that… anyway, we knew everything already, no?

Since I’m on t mobile and not likely to switch in the next two years regardless of whether I use a phone upgrade, I feel like I “should” take a zero cost upgrade from 13 mini to 16. But I would surely miss the size of the mini.

Small form factor is a feature. My phone fits in my pocket, it fits easily in my hand- i'm not worried about dropping it.

At some point they will release a new phone that has enough features to outweigh the tradeoff and I will grudgingly update OR my 13 mini will just die on me or have poor enough battery life that I'm forced to upgrade.

Neither of those have happened yet.

I know it's purely vanity but I get so many people commenting in surprise and envy when they see how small my phone is.

The 13 is now discontinued, I've had mine for two years, and I think it came out a year before that. So it's been around for three years-ish.

My rule of thumb is Apple supports iPhone products for about five-six years or so, and maybe some security updates after that for good measure. So it should get new OS versions for about another 2-3 years if we're lucky unless there is a push for AI that kills the updates, as the focus will be on new phones that can run it.

I'm keeping my mini until it's dead and just replacing the battery.

Small, has a SIM card, no AI and probably won't ever have it. It's all the things I want. ❤️❤️❤️

Like we say, let your voice be heard with your wallet. If you want a smaller phone, just don’t buy a larger one. They will maybe realize there is a market for small phone, but it will only work if people stop buying things they don’t want.

Or they'll get the wrong signals and think if people dont buy these iPhones, its because they're not big enough and need to make them even bigger.

Standard pro will be 7.3" and pro max will be 8.0" in a year or two, not even folded up.

Same thing with Apple Watch now… the Series 10 42mm is the new 41mm.

Don’t get confused with the Apple Watch Series 1 to 3 42mm, that was its original larger model.

thats gonna be a headache for resellers. Not my problem but ..

I didn't like how Joz asserted that bigger screen is THE way on the watch. Isn't that a subjective thing and why they had smaller medium and large sizes (ultra) in first place? and isn't subjectivity more than ok when it comes to fundamentally a 'smart device fashion accessory' ?

It can also cause confusion for Apple Watch users when they buy bands. Some who are upgrading from the original three series’s of Apple Watch will need to understand that their 42mm S1-3s can only use with any Apple Watch Series 4 to 6/SE 44mm, 45mm S7-9 and Apple Watch Ultra, and now in my case I will need to name the series 10 Apple Watch 42mm size the new 42mm, which fits the 38, 40 and 41 sizes. When I have to explain it to Apple Watch wearers this way, I will also note that the widths of the band channels of series 10 42mm are the same with the smaller 38-41s, not its biggest ones.

yeah I just mean of people returning the bands for resellers to 'eat it' on the refund/return.

definitely will cause consumer confusion as well, no doubt. hopefully mostly recoverable - though I guess not in countries where return policies aren't really a thing.

I seen Amazon reviews of bands and people still get confused and accidentally get bands that are made for the 45mm when they think their 41 Apple Watch series 9s are 42.

I'll have Apple put a new battery in my 13 Mini and wait it out until the iPhone 17 Pro at least. The 15 Pro was very tempting with it's lightweight frame, high refresh rate screen, and USB-C. The 16 Pro is also tempting for the same reasons but better, but I'm just not ready to let go of the mini form factor.

I’ve bitten the bullet and pre-pre-ordered the 16 pro to move from my 12 mini. I LOVE the form factor and I’m going to miss it. But the cameras are now so out of date, it’s very slow, started glitching a bit. Battery is now 72% which I know I can get sorted but that costs money too.
I had done it as a trade in but I think I’ll keep it for when my daughter needs a phone when she starts secondary school in a couple of years.

Take comparison pics when you get it in!

Also it's best to get the battery replaced. So it is at a fresh 99-100%. Even if you plan on using it "in a few years" that 72% will not get through a day with use any longer to be reliable and remain powered on with a child.

Oh yeah for sure. Just hope it’s got enough life to be useable by her for at least a couple of years on top - so at least another 5 years

I'm doing the same - 12 mini to 16 (or 16 pro). I'll probably give my phone to my 7 year old to use as a camera/video camera. Still haven't decided which phone to upgrade to, but I sure would like the sweet 120hz screen of the pro. Only concern I have is (with it being so big/heavy) the hole it will create in my trouser pocket(s) 😅
