Switch to what? No other small modern-ish smart phones exist period :D

That's not true.

Interesting but I said modern :p

that looks like a jitter bug.

It's a 5g android phone running modern android. It's far form a jitterbug.

sure but I dont see what would be compelling to move from an iPhone 13 mini, shrunken down version of the best phone with the ecosystem behind it, to that.

I'd rather go on a fishing expedition for a smaller older Moto if it came down to it. That's just me tho

I've been trying to declutter and simplify my digital life whenever practical, letting go of stored personal data and devices, so if I didn't love and rely on my Apple Watch for a few things, I'd be thinking about a dumb phone.

Happy to keep using my 13 Mini. I replaced the battery in the last year, so that is a non-issue. Will probably keep it on iOS17 to avoid slowdowns. If Apple never, ever makes a smaller phone again I will inevitably be forced to switch (inside or outside Apple’s ecosystem), but for now it’s still working fine.

A reminder to all that the most eco-friendly thing to do is keep your current phone. We live in a culture of constant upgrading, but withholding our consumerism helps the planet in the long run. Staying with my Mini is also partially influenced by that.
Been running iOS 18 on mine for a few months now and I honestly notice zero slowdown. I’m actually shocked by this as I really thought it wouldn’t work well in the 13 mini but it appears that Apple have done a splendid job on the performance front.

I’d fully recommend updating - feels like there is no downside.

Battery life also?

Thanks for the feedback, helpful. It’s just so tough with these things because, if it doesn’t go well, there’s no going back (with official releases). You’re doing it right by test-driving the beta in advance, I should consider that option more seriously.

I bit the bullet and ordered a 16 Pro. As much as I love the mini, $1,000 trade-in offer for it is probably not going to last too long, if even at all the next year or 2.

That is kinda crazy iPhone 13 mini is on the list for AT&T $1k trade in

Shouldn’t be hard to get a device for like $300 second hand and flip it back to AT&T if you knew you were sticking with same service

I won’t part with mine !! And I did the $800 trade credit for an iPhone 8 for iPhone 12 Pro was clutch but not feeling up for that thing again

This is what I do. I’ve kept the 13 mini as a backup to my Pro Max. It’s a bit of a nuisance to transfer the eSIM over, but there are times when I prefer the size and weight of the mini (road races, formal occasions, etc.). Any time I think I’ll be taking photos (like traveling) I much prefer the large phone.

We may never see another iPhone this size, so I’m holding onto it as long as it still functions. I’m happy I’m still at 95% battery health.
I was thinking of doing this to use mini for international travel to some places where I may get robbed or lose my phone due to being drunk or something when going out. ive lost my phone when out drinking and dancing before. I dont think id sell my mini.

I ordered a 16 Pro on Friday. I'm emotionally torn: looking forward to the better camera and longer battery life, but not happy about the larger size. Part of my plan is to hand down my 13 Mini to my daughter, who wants to take photos with a better camera than her old second generation SE. I'm kind of tempted to give her the 16 Pro and see what photography she does with it, while I hang onto the 13 Mini for a while longer.

I loooove my 12 mini, but it was time for me to accept the limitations. As someone who travels quite often in remote areas without cell service, having longer battery life and satellite connectivity were key factors to upgrade to a 16 Pro Max. I'm still not fully convinced because I might have solved a problem I have 1/3rd of the year while making worse the other 2/3rds. We shall see.

Can you keep both and then switch to whichever one works better for your current situation?

😳😳😳
How’s that possible? Or better: who’s paying for this?

I’m an avid small phone fan, but I also want a really decent camera. If a small iPhone still existed (there may be a couple obscure non-Apple options out there but hard to consider them because of privacy concerns and lack of ecosystem integration), I would have it and probably just get a really slim point and shoot camera and keep it in my other pocket (maybe not always bringing it). But seeing as there is none, and even medium/small-ish iPhones are on their way out, only big and huge iPhones are left to choose from. But the advantage is they do come with decent cameras so I might just stick a Pop Socket on one and start wearing a cross body fanny pack to put it in. This is what it has come down to 😖

I have an iPad Mini that I use at home constantly. If I get a Max, as a bonus it may be able to adequately replace the iPad Mini and thereby nullify some of my Continuity woes. But not sure due to the Max lacking the Mini’s size, aspect ratio, landscape support, and multitask features.

I'm one of the very few still holding on to the original 4" SE. Coming months with the arrival of iOS18 support for my banking app will likely end and I will need to look for an alternative. Still on the fence whether I should take the 13 mini or go for the SE2 or SE3.

advantages of the 13 mini:
-smaller size so more pocketable and comfortable to hold
-flat edges give a better grip, not a fan of the rounded edges
-dual cameras
-better battery life
-faster wireless charging

advantages of the SE:
-smaller screen so better to use one handed
-square screen, no notch
-physical home button
-no camera bump with a case
-cheaper

Difficult choice...havent made up my mind yet.
Man I went back and forth on this choice for a long time too, thinking of these same points, except the notch and camera bump weren’t big factors to me, but Touch ID was. The Mini also has more storage options. There Mini is the better phone in almost all ways, but for me Touch ID was too important so the SE3 won out.
BTW the SE screen is smaller overall but the Mini screen is narrower which I think is more important for one-handed operation. You can always scoot your hand up to reach higher on the screen or use Reachability, but the width (and slipperiness) of the SE makes reaching the far edge of the screen feel a little precarious, at least for my smallish hands. A grippy skin or case would help though.

Maybe the Lightphone would be an option for you.

It is worth considering, for sure. It will come down to how easy / hard it is to transfer the esim back and forth between phones.
Takes about 5min I do it now with my 13min and my 15pro. Trick is to have good wifi. I backup my 15pro then pickup my 13mini and it's all synced up.

What if they released a mini with USB-C? I would love it!
They could do that every 3/4/5 yr. It would be so awesome.

If not under Cook, we can hope that his successor have more style.

They will release a mini eventually. They like to starve mini users so that we all jump on an order together and see it as a major upgrade we can’t resist. Mini users are minimalistic people. We don’t use the phone as a consumption device most of our day. That’s what a big screen is for. What happened most likely was 12 mini was a hot seller and then the 13 mini wasn’t as the upgrade was minimal. Mini users won’t upgrade annually.
