I don’t think 15 pro is a suitable replacement still being 6.1” even if titanium materials made the phone considerably lighter but ummv i supoose

Is anyone gonna miss a superior camera moving down to 13 mini?

Er, no. Weight isn’t the issue for us, size is. Keeping the 13minis we have for as long as we can.
Have you tried a 15 Pro?

You might be surprised. I was a strict "I'm sticking with my 13 mini until it dies" user too. I thought the problem was size of the larger models but it was the weight. I hated the 14 Pro - it felt like a paperweight. Tried the 15 Pro and it honestly just feels like I'm using the 13 mini again after 10 months.

I can understand if you've been put off previous Pro models/larger phones but the 15 Pro is quite different IMO.

By the numbers, the 15 Pro is 32% larger and 34% heavier. And if someone already owns a mini, it’s a thousand bucks more than his/her sunk cost.

its physically a bigger phone. period.

lighter is appreciated but im holding up an iPhone 11 I have @ 6.1 even if it has no weight its still a big screen to put in your pocket and hold onto

not a 13 mini substitute (IMO)

I came from an XR that was just too big in my front pocket of my jeans. It felt always in the way when I had to reach over for something, and I might bend or catch it.

The mini sits lower and doesn't bother me.

Has anyone had paint chipping on their 13 mini?
Mine has a 2mm chip, with shiny aluminium poking through, just above the lightning port.
Lack of any good cases is a really annoying thing about having an older phone. It's super annoying how Apple stops selling cases for older phone models, even though they still sell those models!

The only tricky part of using a 13 mini (battery is… fine - 86% health) is constantly answering people who react to seeing it, “Woah, what’s that?” (reachable one-handed, it fits in my pocket, if I need a bigger screen I use my laptop etc) Closely followed by, “Don’t you have a case??” (haven’t broken a screen yet)

more hype just got two genuine OEM MagSafe Battery packs for a very fair price :D

only needed one, but they are nigh impossible to find in general, new or used but ALSO genuine. More fakes than anything else I've seen recently :O

I’m very tempted to get one. It’s still available as of today. Coming from a 14 Pro and having a baby on the way, it’s probably a little irresponsible for me to get one though.

Personally I think the iPhone 13 mini is the perfect iPhone - it's size means it fits in the pocket easily and crucially psychologically I don't get sucked into video watching etc which I can do on my iMac or Macbook Air. Prefer to use my iPhone for simple messaging, phone calls and apps when I am out and that's about it! Plus I read somewhere that iOS was designed for that size of phone and it seems to show.

I will be holding on to mine until 2027 and hopefully by then Apple will bring out something that will replace it as I don't want a bigger phone but I want better camera eventually etc. Even going from my iPhone X to the 13 mini I felt the camera didn't improve massively except on low light performance so year on year the changes are so minor whereas with the iPhone X FaceID was a game changer.

I have a 15pro sitting on my desk as I went back to my iPhone 13mini. The only big downside is the camera. Which right now I’m not needing. I can use the iPhone 13 mini case less. Works great. They’re so cheap I can wait till I destroy it and just buy another one off Amazon and have it there super quick. I don’t like the bigger phones. I’ll be returning my 15pro after the keynote and take my apple credit for the future.

The only reason you’d want to move away from a 13 Mini is if you require more than 6.5 hours of SoT per day or a larger screen. The 13 Mini is a powerhouse of a machine and can do pretty much anything a 15 Pro can do.

Even if you’re a heavy phone user and require more battery life, you can always pick up a MagSafe battery pack to extend your SoT to the 10 hour mark.

Genuinely zero reason for 99.9% of 13 Mini users to move away from the device if they’re currently enjoying it.

Most of these 12/13 Mini’s only require an OEM battery replacement from Apple to be as good as new.
Camera and heat issues when using gps to navigate with

I had a 12 Mini and never had heat issues, perhaps you require a battery replacement?

The camera is also very good on that device.
When using my 13mini, wired CarPlay, and Waze or Google Maps, it often says charging is on hold at 86% because of heat.

(Apple maps is at least five years behind the curve in Mexico AND uses the iPhone’s device settings for units. I need my navigation in kilometers but demand my weight in pounds and prefer my temperature in Fahrenheit.)

Ahh, I have never used CarPlay but it appears to be the main culprit for a lot of overheating complaints on this forum. I think most phones will overheat, not just the Mini range, as wireless charging creates a lot of heat and CarPlay is resource intensive… it’s a double whammy on the device.

Its the navigation app on the phone not carplay per se.
some car manufacurers integrate cooling in the qi charger.
With good old cable i never had a heat problem on my mini. With qi yes

Reportedly with Qi CarPlay charger cars they can easily cook an iPhone 15 pro max like an egg

I don’t think the mini is at fault in these scenarios

Qi is inefficient compared to wired charging so a lot more heat is produced.

I also don’t get why people use Qi. I was tempted for the convenience, but when I tried it and felt how it it gets/how inefficient it is, I quickly dumped the idea.

With the push for fast charging and magnetic charging, there seems to be some damage done to the battery as a trade off.

I still have an old 5W brick to charge slowly overnight. No heat, no battery stress. As long as it's ready in the morning, I don't care.
