Unlikely. I think one reason they are increasing the display height is to make the DI line up where the notch was (the DI is currently slightly below).
Yep, that thought has crossed my mind as well. That would be an improvement of sorts, as in its current state, it’s really a shortcoming. It should not interfere with the content you watch on your phone.

WiFi 7 is not coming to the next iPhone 16. I wish MR would realize that Apple has been slow to adopt WiFi and cellular standards.

WiFi 7 is likely to come in 2025 with the iPhone 17 but may arrive as late as 2026 for the iPhone 18.

I hope you’re wrong but I understand why you say that.

These iPhone 16 rumours never mention the non-pro model sizes.

Are we to assume the 16 and 16 Plus will also follow and have the same respective sizes?

Or will we have 4 different sizes?

I swear a few weeks from the event it's gonna say "Issues during testing, delayed to iPhone 17"

remember when the 4 leaking was like…the biggest tech story of the year?

sigh- I miss the mystique sometimes, rather than hearing rumors barely a month after the newest model is announced.

my guess is that it has something to do with making spatial photos+videos easier to capture, as the button would be on the side of the phone that the double lenses run along. what do I know though 🤷‍♂️😆
I still have the t-shirt.

Historically, Apple has been pretty cutting-edge with adopting new WiFi standards.

This mysterious Capture Button seems like it would the perfect spot for TouchID, then we can remove FaceID and make the Dynamic Island smaller.
not gonna happen- Apple’s whitepaper on the security of Face ID vis-a-vis Touch ID is proof enough that they have a goal of putting it on every device

Agree. Apple is never "first" with new technology. We won't see Wifi7 in an apple device at least for 2 or so years after it actually launches.

Why can't Apple make 6"/6.5" & 7" sizes instead of the weird 6.1/6.3" & 6.7/6.9" sizes?
At least the screen should be better for aging eyes but it may become a bit cumbersome to hold and to use.
Expect a price increase, hopefully including a starting min. of 256Gb storage, considering SSD costs have been dropping over the years and that Apple let users record in 4K so users do need the storage. Would be nice with 512Gb storage minimum but don't count on it being Apple.
Hopefully, it will fix the newer iOS version so it's more stable. Please fix Safari so it's not a battery hog!

While the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are still around 11 months away from launching, there are already several rumors about the devices. Below, we have recapped new features and changes expected for the devices so far.

iPhone-16-Side-Feature.jpg

These are some of the key changes rumored for the iPhone 16 Pro models as of October 2023:
  • Larger displays: The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will be equipped with larger 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch displays, respectively, according to Ross Young, CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants. The devices are expected to have taller aspect ratios as part of this change. By comparison, the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max have 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch displays, respectively.
  • Capture Button: Apple plans to include a new "Capture Button" on all iPhone 16 models, according to pre-production information obtained by MacRumors. The button would be located below the power button, but its purpose is unknown. It has been speculated that it could be a dedicated shutter button for the camera.
  • 48-megapixel Ultra Wide lens: The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will feature an upgraded 48-megapixel Ultra Wide camera lens for higher-resolution photos with more detail when shooting in 0.5× mode, according to Jeff Pu, a tech analyst at Hong Kong investment firm Haitong International Securities.
  • Wi-Fi 7 support: The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will also support Wi-Fi 7, according to Pu. This would enable the devices to send and receive data over the 2.4GHz, 5GHz, and 6GHz bands simultaneously, resulting in faster Wi-Fi speeds, lower latency, and more reliable connectivity. Wi-Fi 7 is expected to offer peak data transfer speeds of over 40 Gbps, a 4× increase over Wi-Fi 6E.
  • A18 Pro chip: Apple's next-generation A18 Pro chip is expected to be manufactured with TSMC's second-generation 3nm process, known as N3E.
  • 5G Advanced: iPhone 16 Pro models will be equipped with Qualcomm's Snapdragon X75 modem for faster and more power efficient 5G connectivity, according to Pu. The modem supports the "5G Advanced" standard, which has been described as "the next phase of 5G" and an "evolution towards 6G."
  • 5x optical zoom on Pro model: The iPhone 15 Pro Max's tetraprism lens system with 5x optical zoom will expand to both the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, according to supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.
Apple is expected to announce the iPhone 16 Pro models in September 2024. Additional details about the devices should surface over the coming months, so be sure to keep tabs on our iPhone 16 roundup for the latest information.

There was the time that Apple adopted AC draft 2 in the MBA but and maybe some of the earliest AirPort products but that's it. They're last to adopt now and it's been that way for over a solid decade. This isn't 2009 anymore.

Not about time for 8K video capture yet?
...
I know, I know: "The chart" and "nobody can see..." and "99% don't want" and "until the entire Internet is sped up" and "until all video in the iTunes Store is available in 8K" and blah, blah, blah (all the same stuff we slung against Apple going 4K while they still clung to 1080p and going 1080p while they still clung to 720p, which immediately evaporates as soon as Apple chooses to make the leap.
For example, pro cameras available now can shoot in 12K, which will probably NEVER have a native display television (that hop will probably be 8K to 16K).
Moving from 480p to 720p, to 1080p, and finally to 4K made sense because we also moved from tiny blurry CRTs to large LCD/OLED TVs in the same time frame. I currently own a 86" 4K TV, which certainly helps with 4P split-screen gaming. But 8K? 16K?? Why? For consumer TVs, there are other metrics that should/will be improved first, such as refresh rate and color reproduction, or general quality of life (jealously looking at Samsung Frame).

I'm not betting against 8K video, maybe the AR/VR community will find uses for it. But for TVs and mobile screens, we have reached the point where nobody cares about further resolution increases, for the same reason that audio file specs haven't steadily grown to 4000kHz/1024bit.

Those predicted changes are expected. I am looking forward to these changes or other updates on next iPhone. Hoping one day Pro Max size will be so large close to iPad mini. 😊 iPad mini size iPhone Pro Max will be my ideal size 😊

Hopefully the move to 6.3" and 6.9" opens the door for a smaller pro model as well. I think 5.8" (the size of the original X and Xs screen) in an updated smaller body with smaller bezels would be perfect.

Not about time for 8K video capture yet?

48Megapixel cameras and 8K video easily go together. 8K TVs have been available for a few years now. Since M1, Apple has been spinning how silicon can handle multiple streams of 8K video at the same time. 8K-capable iDevice camera begets 8K AppleTVs and more robust Mac hardware needs to actually edit multiple streams of 8K at the same time. It also leads to an 8K (or will that be 10K?) ASD II and perhaps 12K Pro Monitor with $4K monitor stand?

I know, I know: "The chart" and "nobody can see..." and "99% don't want" and "until the entire Internet is sped up" and "until all video in the iTunes Store is available in 8K" and blah, blah, blah (all the same stuff we slung against Apple going 4K while they still clung to 1080p and going 1080p while they still clung to 720p, which immediately evaporates as soon as Apple chooses to make the leap.

Nevertheless, a video resolution upgrade is a very tangible upgrade (see 48mega-pixel camera) and higher resolution can drive people to want/need/believe they need to upgrade various other Apple hardware to take advantage of it, so there's lots of additional revenue potential in embracing 8K as the new peak resolution in Appleland. Last I checked, Apple likes revenue.
is there a station that broadcasts in 8K ?

In the U.S? No, and there were no stations broadcasting 4K when Apple embraced 4K and no stations broadcasting 1080p (that was 1080i) when Apple embraced it. So there is no history of waiting for broadcasters to jump before Apple does.

Apple can LEAD here instead of following. We usually want that… except- for some reason- in this part of tech… where we seem to become a “good enough” crowd while others progress on. Select Samsung phones have been able to shoot 8K for a couple of years now.

Of course once Apple jumps, no one will call them wrong for doing so and some pessimists flip into gushing about the advance… even touting it as a reason to upgrade… like better cameras for photographs in iPhone. I’ve seen exactly this before & after Apple went 4K… and before & after they went 1080p. It will repeat with 8K. The question is only about WHEN Apple will embrace 8K video capture: in this rumored 16 or 17 or 18?

Apple already spins lots of 8K in the marketing. It is inevitable that they will go there. And a tangible feature like that seems much more desirable to me than “a little faster”, “a little bigger”, “same great battery life”, etc.

There may never be stations broadcasting in 8K. There’s also none broadcasting in 4K… (I think there are) none broadcasting in 1080p (still 1080i if over the air), none broadcasting in ATMOS… none broadcasting in spatial video… but Apple has already embraced all of that… except 8K video capture… yet.
