Apple slow plays their technology hand. When you have no new ideas, you can't adopt everything new because it leaves nothing for next year.

Faster 5G modems, cool. I get 5-90Mbps most of the time when I'm on 5Guw. The bottleneck will forever be the infrastructure, not the towers or the phones. Rolling out 48 megapixel sensors and 4K60 video doesn't help. God forbid 8K. If the modems could talk peer to peer, then that would be worth something.

I really want to update my 12 pro max as the battery life is approaching 90%. I am happy to see a larger and brighter display, but I still worried it going be another S year. Time will tell, hopefully bigger changes might surface next year.

However logic tells me I should update to iphone 16 ultra, and than wait for the first full screen iphone in 2027 according to Young’s roadmap.

Does anyone feel like 6.7 is the perfect size, I'm not sure we need a 6.9... might as well start getting an iPad mini at that point.
No, I feel like 6.7 is a horrible size. My 13 Mini is a bit too large, but manageable. I picked up my original SE today and was transported back to a time that my phone could be used one-handed. If Apple would just release a top-spec 4" iPhone, I'd gladly pay $2000+

I’m guessing a design change is coming along with the increases in display sizes. It might be minor with the only noticeable change being the camera cluster looking different or something?

You’re in the minority of minority of iPhone users for wanting a 4” iPhone at a price even Tim knows is only possible in his dreams.

Apple is holding out on us poor, jaded, first-world consumers. If the iPhone 16 SuperMax camera doesn't have a 2.1 gigapixel light field sensor, and a zero point energy battery (which was almost ready for the 15, except they found out last minute that when a zpeb pops, it makes driverless cars run over pedestrians (that's how you know they been working on 'em)), and negative bezels (which shoots lasers into your eyeholes to make the screen look bigger than the device)... then I'm sticking with my iphone X - the last really innovative phone Apple released.

Guess i’ll be holding onto my dying 12 mini for yet another year. The 13, 14 and 15 pros were all just not worth it for me. That 48mp wide angle is calling me more than 5x zoom lol.
Yeah - i have a 12 pro max, and 13 & 14 weren't worth the upgrade, the 15 is on the edge, but if the peri lens comes to the 16 pro, then that might be my next phone. Still waiting for an M3 MacBook Pro to replace my 2019 13 inch Intel MacBook Pro....

Interesting! The current 5x optical lens only in the iPhone 15 Pro Max added to the iPhone 16 Pro will probably be why I wait another year to upgrade from an iPhone 13 Pro. I will just have to hold off 11 months. The Pro Max is too big for me. My 2c.

While the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are still around 11 months away from launching, there are already several rumors about the devices. Below, we have recapped new features and changes expected for the devices so far.

iPhone-16-Side-Feature.jpg

These are some of the key changes rumored for the iPhone 16 Pro models as of October 2023:
  • Larger displays: The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will be equipped with larger 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch displays, respectively, according to Ross Young, CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants. The devices are expected to have taller aspect ratios as part of this change. By comparison, the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max have 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch displays, respectively.
  • Capture Button: Apple plans to include a new "Capture Button" on all iPhone 16 models, according to pre-production information obtained by MacRumors. The button would be located below the power button, but its purpose is unknown. It has been speculated that it could be a dedicated shutter button for the camera.
  • 48-megapixel Ultra Wide lens: The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will feature an upgraded 48-megapixel Ultra Wide camera lens for higher-resolution photos with more detail when shooting in 0.5× mode, according to Jeff Pu, a tech analyst at Hong Kong investment firm Haitong International Securities.
  • Wi-Fi 7 support: The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will also support Wi-Fi 7, according to Pu. This would enable the devices to send and receive data over the 2.4GHz, 5GHz, and 6GHz bands simultaneously, resulting in faster Wi-Fi speeds, lower latency, and more reliable connectivity. Wi-Fi 7 is expected to offer peak data transfer speeds of over 40 Gbps, a 4× increase over Wi-Fi 6E.
  • A18 Pro chip: Apple's next-generation A18 Pro chip is expected to be manufactured with TSMC's second-generation 3nm process, known as N3E.
  • 5G Advanced: iPhone 16 Pro models will be equipped with Qualcomm's Snapdragon X75 modem for faster and more power efficient 5G connectivity, according to Pu. The modem supports the "5G Advanced" standard, which has been described as "the next phase of 5G" and an "evolution towards 6G."
  • 5x optical zoom on Pro model: The iPhone 15 Pro Max's tetraprism lens system with 5x optical zoom will expand to both the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, according to supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.
Apple is expected to announce the iPhone 16 Pro models in September 2024. Additional details about the devices should surface over the coming months, so be sure to keep tabs on our iPhone 16 roundup for the latest information.

For the love of everything holy please redesign the phone. I’m not upgrading to the 15 from the 14. It’s the same phone. I should have kept my 12PM because the 13,14,and now 15 are the SAME PHONE. well… we got the unholy Dynamic Island. No more. Just make the notch smaller and give us our screen back. The Dynamic Island take away so much. And give me a feature I never use. Along with a tiny sliver of completely useless pixels above it.

The Dynamic Island is an unholy mess.
The whole reason I won’t buy another phone till it’s gone. To many wonderful phones on the market that don’t take away and give a gimmick in return. “ it just works “

I’ll keep it simple. I look forward to the Pro being a bit bigger. I have a 15 PM now and it borders on a bit too big and the Pro is a bit too small for me. 6.3 could be a sweet spot. Might become the most popular size.

WiFi 7 is not coming to the next iPhone 16. I wish MR would realize that Apple has been slow to adopt WiFi and cellular standards.

WiFi 7 is likely to come in 2025 with the iPhone 17 but may arrive as late as 2026 for the iPhone 18.
They’re not saying it will. They’re reporting on rumors others have claimed.

If you watch their show/podcast, you’ll see they’re well aware of Apple’s track record, when they have the chance to add more colour to reports.

I honestly am at the point I don’t see why anyone is upgrading. In the beginning doing it yearly was big leaps. Now I’m sitting here with my 15pro and honestly don’t find anything better about it than my 13mini except for the 2x lens and battery.

My wife loves her mini but isn't the 16 even worse for you? They are making them even bigger again....

Can we start reducing the size of that Dynamic Island already? I think the 16 Pro will need some improvements in that area after 2 generations with it.

iPhone 17 is supposed to just have a hole for the camera with FaceID under the display.
