Maybe makes sense to save that for when Apple TV gets 8K output. Perhaps they'll differentiate a cheaper Apple TV 4K from the more expensive and more powerful Apple TV 8K eventually.
Historically, it’s been iPhone adopts new recording resolution tier, then some iPads too, then AppleTV. I would expect the same this time.

Notice how new iPhones can capture spatial video but the “screen” on which to watch it is coming months from now.

Yeah I expect if Vision is going to be what Apple are betting on that it will get innovations first. 8K video will probably come to Vision before Apple TV. Why even buy an 8K TV if 8K will one day come to an affordable Vision/Meta product..

Because watching home movies shot on phones and iPads is often a group event. Family gathers and somebody fires up little Jimmy’s first steps or Christmas 2011 or that last vacation trip for others to see and enjoy (or be bored).

Solo watching on Vpro will also be an option- and I lean quite positive on the whole Vpro concept myself- but I don’t foresee it replacing televisions. One is much better for group experiences. The other is a nice option for soloists… especially mobile soloists away from home or easy access to a big screen playing what they want to watch.

Does anyone feel like 6.7 is the perfect size, I'm not sure we need a 6.9... might as well start getting an iPad mini at that point.
iPad Mini with cellular service is the new iPhone Pro Max for the modern cell phone user, I already switched from iPhone Pro Max 6.7 and never looked back.

It opened such endless possibilities and unlocked my true potential as a human being and a creator, Now I feel totally empowered and free again. I also grew 3-4 inches and lost 20 pounds, by just switching to iPad Mini. You too should try it.

Much more interested in iOS 18. We need a full scale redesign. The flexibility Android 14 offers is astounding. We need true automation in iOS (not super limited shortcuts).

Not about time for 8K video capture yet?

48Megapixel cameras and 8K video easily go together. 8K TVs have been available for a few years now. Since M1, Apple has been spinning how silicon can handle multiple streams of 8K video at the same time. 8K-capable iDevice camera begets 8K AppleTVs and more robust Mac hardware needs to actually edit multiple streams of 8K at the same time. It also leads to an 8K (or will that be 10K?) ASD II and perhaps 12K Pro Monitor with $4K monitor stand?

I know, I know: "The chart" and "nobody can see..." and "99% don't want" and "until the entire Internet is sped up" and "until all video in the iTunes Store is available in 8K" and blah, blah, blah (all the same stuff we slung against Apple going 4K while they still clung to 1080p and going 1080p while they still clung to 720p, which immediately evaporates as soon as Apple chooses to make the leap.

Nevertheless, a video resolution upgrade is a very tangible upgrade (see 48mega-pixel camera) and higher resolution can drive people to want/need/believe they need to upgrade various other Apple hardware to take advantage of it, so there's lots of additional revenue potential in embracing 8K as the new peak resolution in Appleland. Last I checked, Apple likes revenue.
I'm all-in on seeing 8K HDR video capabilities in my pocket! Make that 8K 60P aaand 4K 240P while we're at it! :)

For those of us looking to shoot in the highest fidelity, highest resolution, widest-available dynamic range and widest-available color gamut, such capabilities in iPhone 16 would be most welcome! Bring it on, Tim! :)

Why? Because tv is often a social activity; neither the wife or I really watch tv unless we're watching it together and I tend to watch hockey with friends. Not everyone sits alone all hours of the day.

Neither of us have any interest in VR goggles whatsoever, and people look like a toolbag wearing one.

Television panders to morons, I can't stand watching anymore.

Life panders to morons but can still be enjoyable; there is no need to be an elitist. 90% of my idle entertainment is reading or the outdoors.

No interest in gaming, other than board and card games.

Its to large.

to me the XS at 5.8" was the perfect size. There are many of us who don't want to use 3-4 hands to use a single phone.

Those who like larger phones and have bigger hands or like using 2 hands on a device are fine with the 6.7"

But i know more than a few people who switched from the pro/max to something like a zflip 5 due to the width and size of the phones getting to be to much for them and they wanted something comfortable.

Larger sizes will push "" some "" people away and if anyone wants to deny that they are crazy.

I know a few who went from the pro down to a mini or a SE purely due to size as well.to me Increasing the width of the phone is off the table.

Blasting an entire medium like that makes little sense. “Television” refers to the delivery system. The content is as varied as any other segment. Consider these:

“Radio panders to morons.”

“Newspapers pander to morons.”

Neither statement means much due to the fact that radio and news encompass so many kinds of disparate content. Same deal with television. No doubt a lot of the content panders to morons. But using that fact to discount the entire medium is kind of pointless. Anyone who wants to consume content that doesn’t pander to morons simply needs to be more discerning about what he/she/they choose to watch.

Right. It isn’t approaching iPad mini due to the width but the Pro Max is already at the upper limit of usability/portability.

And isn’t it curious how Apple went through a period of making things smaller and smaller until customers were like “Holy crap! WAY too small!!” Now we’re in the opposite scenario. Bigger and bigger and bigger until customers are all “Holy crap! WAY too big!!”

I remember when all Windows Phone's had shutter buttons! Truly hope this is coming because that was such a nice feature to quickly capture photos without the need to use the touchscreen.

Between this and iOS's widgets, starting to not miss Windows Phone that much anymore.

Your whole family can watch the same TV at the same time. By the time there are affordable 8K headsets, there will be affordance 8K TVs.

As was 4K before Apple embraced 4K... and as was 1080p before Apple embraced 1080p. That "the chart" has been slung at EVERY resolution hop, always used to try to put down what Apple is not yet offering while justifying what Apple is currently offering.

All of the same old arguments against the NEXT resolution hop have been slung against 4K before Apple went there and against 1080p before Apple went there. However, once Apple makes the leap, Apple is never called out as stupid or wrong for embracing the new resolution and the "the chart" makers apparently erase the old numbers and write in the new numbers to recycle the same argument against the NEXT resolution when that inevitably pops up.
Why are you picking on Apple about this. This is driven by industry trends not a single company.
