=) :apple: My phone now lets me select my carrier.

I didn't have to change anything. Just popped up with the 3.1 update....

(I have modified my carrier settings by visiting help.benm.at, but otherwise haven't jailbroken or unlocked. This showed up on the iPhone 32 GB 3Gs.)
The carrier has always been shown there on my phone (UK - O2 network). When you click on it it goes to a screen giving details about it - there's no way to change carriers, just provision for other carriers, like on every other phone.

Not a biggie.

Is there an option for delivery reports on SMS/MMS?

Also, if a SMS cant be sent it just sits in the outbox and doesnt seem to be retried.

So someone has mentioned that you can now use Bluetooth to do Voice Control, but didn't give any specifics beyond that. What level of functionality is there? Do you have to still hold the Home button on the iPhone for a few seconds to activate it and then you can speak through the BT headset? Can you push the button on your BT headset to activate Voice Control itself, meaning there is no need to touch the iPhone at all in the car? Thanks for any info you can provide.

I was able to get it to work on my jawbone bluetooth headset by pressing and holding a button on my headset, not the iPhone.

Hi everyone,

Sorry for asking, but does the UUID need to be registered on a developers account in order for the upgrade to be successful?

Will the phone activate without it being on a developers account?

Thanks,

Tom :)

I find it strange that the states are so far behind Europe in technological development. SMS has been available for about 15 years in europe, and mms for 5-7 years? Why is both of these features kind of new in USA?

Hey Tom,

Yep, your device UDID will need to be added to a valid (paid) developer's account (or your own) in order for you to install the software.

On trying to install the software without doing this, when Apple goes to check your UDID is there,
and it's not, you'll be left on the 'Pink Screen'.

Hope this helps,

is there finally a battery percentage setting on the "older" iPhones?

No! It's not happening. There's a real reason that it's exclusive to the 3GS. Do you think they thought it would sell extra 3GS units if they left it out on older models? No! They did it for a real reason that still applies. I was misled contantly by the battery icon on my 3G when I had it. I can't imagine how misleading an actual number would be on that device.

Neither are new in the US. AT&T are just dragging their feet on implimenting MMS support for this one headset.

There is no real reason, How else would the phone know when it's at 20% battery life?

There is nothing special with mms on iphone compared to other phones! its a standard!

Hey all!

Well, my beta finished downloading and I stuck it onto my iPhone (3G).

Things are definitely quicker and snappier from what I have noticed. Powering off/on has been faster.
MMS does show up in my beta, however it does not work (I have tethering enabled through the carrier file).
It's too soon to tell if my battery life has improved. I just got my iPhone replaced yesterday because of a battery issue.
Additionally, it's too soon to tell about my reception. I haven't noticed it being too jumpy- fading in and out of service as much as 3.0 GM.

Has anyone seen reception improvements? It was horrible for me with 3.0 GM. I could barely keep a solid signal anywhere, and it always took forever for the phone to recover and get service back.

Mine seems much better now, i live in a weak signal area as it is, but it doesn't seem to be doing the whole 'Searching...' 'No service' thing anymore.

Happy i might be able to use my iPhone as a phone again!

You're right. But, for whatever reason AT&T thinks it's some special implementation for the iPhone. Maybe they are right, it may crash their weak network.

That's what I wanted to hear! Awesome news! I know I shouldn't be excited about something that all other flip phones have, but it's effectively the one thing that I made me unsure about switching to an iPhone and now I can have my hands free dialing in the car back again. Hooray!

if you open the mms settings on another phone running at&t you can enter the same settings into the iphone mms settings and it should work...

SDK changes

Most of the API changes deal with Webkit, audio and video - which to me means they'll stay on par with Firefox in supporting web audio and video per the HTML 5 spec. Maybe this will help usher in the end of the yammering for Flash on the iPhone.

Does anyone know what portions of the HTML 5 standard are supported by Mobile Safari in 3.0?

I don't have "Cellular Data Network" option on my iPhone 3Gs running iPhone 3.1 Beta. I'm on AT&T in California, USA.

Go to Settings --> Messages --> and enabled "MMS Messaging" first, then do a restart, after that you should have that option

Nice, but why would anybody want to cut and paste a phone number to the keypad when simply holding down a phone number anywhere will trigger the call the number option?

I think I figured out "the point" of it. It's to be able to "Copy" a number from the dialpad to anywhere else on your phone. This is why it's there in my opinion. Even though you can "Paste" a number there as well, I believe it's main purpose is for copying.

It isn't about copying a number to paste in the dialer.

It's about copying a number to SMS/Email to someone. Or copying an address from one contact to send to another. Or one email address to SMS to a friend. etc.

That didn't work. I doubt it will work for anyone in USA under At&T with a regular locked iPhone 3Gs.
