Why don't all of us who are UK based ship the iphones we want to an italian address and then we all split the cost of sending them back to the uk?

We could start a thread!

I'm Swedish and I live in there aswell, but really, If one of us has an Italian friend we could all ship our iPhones to him and we all give him like 20 pounds per iPhone or something for the service

Would be kinda awesome wouldnt it?

Maybe I should run this by my friend.

I think that could be a good idea, I know phycoduck has a contact in Italy but he has not had much luck getting hold of them

Just came to think of that no one will believe us... "HEY JUST ORDER YOU IPHONE TO THIS ADRESS AND WE'LL SHIP IT TO YOU, PROMISE!"

It's a good scheme to rip off iPhone freaks.

Locking handsets will encourage growth, the problem is that phones aren't subsidized here AND the contracts don't seem to be any cheaper, so it's a lose-lose. I have an iPhone in Belgium but I use it on pay as you go, because the contracts are so expensive. If the networks want people to adopt 3G they need to lower the price.
I don't get it, Belgium is a small and densely populated country, which means that 90% of the population has 3G coverage, it could be huge, but the contracts are simply rediculous.

Anyway, back to the topic, yes they do sell unlocked iphone 3G S's over here, a friend of mine bought one last week.

a) It is still against the law to lock GSM"s in Belgium
b) The law was changed in May to allow cross-subsidisation of certain ranges of devices, including GSM handsets
c) The rationale behind this law is to push further the penetration of technology to the populations
d) Previously the operators have been forbidden by Belgian law to sell any products below cost price -> hence the higher end handsets remain out of most people's acceptable price bracket
e) Low end 3G's do not encourage use - compare the experience on a standard Nokia handset with Vodafone Live versus an iPhone, right, there is no comparison, one sucks the other does its job
f) Experience on the switch from a non-subsidised to subsidised market in Finland (same as what Belgium is about to go through) showed that locking of devices is counter-productive
g) Experience on the French market is that locking drives down sales
h) The operators don't want subidisation, the handset manufacturers do
i) No operator in Belgium is ready yet to bring offers to market, what we see right now is the indirect sales (like Phone House) doing some Mickey-Mouse offers
j) People think that getting an iPhone for free and a locked-in contract for two years is a good deal, it's not, you pay far more

That does require a LOT of trust and too be honest I would be happier right now to sit and wait for the shops in Brussels to get more iphones in and take a day out and get one.

Yeah, probably a good idea for you. I need to get it shipped to me either way, so back to square one.

and inf, I'm taking your sudden silence as a sign that you've recieved you iPhone?

I think it might be a good 1-2 weeks before they get anymore stock in and I reckon the demand will still be pretty high.

hey all, just got back to the office.

my order got bin'ed too.

I was trying to divert a package from a italy HQ to the UK, but the problem with itallains is they are not the quickes of cats.

We do need sombody we can trust with these packages but at the same time... do not tell them whats in the package.

back to the drawing board.

Good luck, although I doubt it will work. I ordered just after INF and mine got cancelled. I had a postcode that did pass as an Italian one as well.

c) The rationale behind this law is to push further the penetration of technology to the populations

In fact, the Belgian law on trade practices hasn't changed yet, but the European Court of Justice said that the Belgian ban of product-tying violates European law. So, strictly product-tying isn't allowed in Belgium for now, but in a couple of months the Belgian law on trade practices will be adapted to follow the European judgment.

About the iPhone 3GS in Belgium:
- No stock, neither at Mobistar centers nor at Apple Premium Resellers

Seems the "old" iPhone 3G 8GB is still available in some Mobistar centers.

I think it might be a good 1-2 weeks before they get anymore stock in and I reckon the demand will still be pretty high.

yes i have been ringing around a couple of the stockists said that they would ring me if any supply showed up

i have also got a few of my belgian friends asking around too
;)

I think with doing this king of thing there is always an element of risk so if you don't mind potentially losing money then its worth giving it a shot.

Nothing ventured nothing gained!

Just remember, if you paid by credit card then you are protected and you should never lose any money. The whole Chargeback process is really weighted in favour of the consumer.

A guy from Holland confirmed this technique to be working:
