Cancelled

Cordialmente,
Apple Store
basically means the postcode is not correct,
I tried 00100 wich is supposed to be a Rome postcode.
Anyone had luck with different postcodes,
am wondering if I should try again or if they are on to me now and checking any of my subsequent orders.....

I didn't even get an email, my order status just changed to cancelled and that was with postcode set to 00100.

But did you have a nice time otherwise?

I did indeed. Very hot tho!But I had some beers to cool me down, some strong ones at that too!

I am going to give it one more shot..when do you think stock levels will normalise? The last place i tried said they would sell me one without a contract no problem(mobistar centre) and that they will have stock at 10am this friday..but in order to get a chaep ryanair flight i have to book about 2 weeks in advance...so u think i should just head back in two weeks?Dont really wanna take a gamble again..Thanks

You might as well ask "how long is a piece of string?" I'm not trying to be flippant but the answer to your question depends on a number of factors that I am sure no one here is able to reliably answer for you, namely:

  • How many people in Belgium are trying to buy the iPhone 3GS model that you want?
  • How many units of this model of the iPhone is Apple going to make available to resellers in Belgium?

My advice to you would be to wait at least another couple of weeks and then more, if you can, to try and reduce the probability that you will go home empty handed (again). I'll be trying to buy one this weekend but then I live in the country so going home empty handed isn't much of an issue for me. If you are going to travel here then you want to make sure that either the local stockists have sufficient stock for everyone or that they have guaranteed to hold one for you. You might want to consider asking them if they would take a deposit for one over the telephone.

I'll certainly post here if I see any success. You might also want to keep an eye on the following discussion that was linked to in an earlier post by someone:

The thread is in French and translated to English by Google so it's a bit goofy but it's people talking about known stock of the 3GS in Belgium, although primarily in the south of the country and Brussels.

Well i aint fussy, ill take whatever iphone 3gs i can get my hands on..whatever the colour or size...I asked a good few shops could i pay and reserve but they refused...I think I will book a flight for early August, in about 5 weeks, I would hope that there will be no stock issues by then...Ill be gettin mine in a Mobistar in charleroi.

Thanks for the help/advice, its much appreciated.

I haven't read the whole thread, but to those of you who are questioning handtec, I can assure you that they are a great company - I have bought several PDA phones and car kits from them over the years. That is a great price for an unlocked iPhone, I may bite (if work don't buy me one this week) :D

I agree, this is why i took the risk and ordered from them:

1) first impression reliable email, online and phone support.
2) Google checkout, ISIS certificates.
3) used my credit card to buy

so if the first two reasons failed :(, i hope the third will save my ass, if i was fooled

Beside the fact that up to now they offer the cheapest prices in the UK, even in compare to ebay. few pounds more expensive than Italy, but at least no need to travel and if any problem with phone, you have a UK company to argue with (an advantage if you are resident in the UK).

Well, if you don't mind which 3GS model you get then your chances of success should greatly increase (I'm after a White 32GB version which seems to be like gold dust at the moment). In 5-weeks time I certainly think that you should be OK - things really will have gone tits-up if Apple can't sort out their stock levels to something acceptable by then.

That is good to hear as a few of us have placed orders with them... going to be a long 2 week wait

Any devs in this thread that have installed the new 3.1 beta?

Is it working how well?

I got it installed on my 3GS and scrolling can be a bit jumpy.. maybe because its trying to scroll too fast!

Starts up faster and battery life seems about the same as 3.0 firmware

They're on to us :( Looks like the loophole has been closed.

Not totally :)

One finnis user has succeeded to get his order to shipped state. He made the order on Monday and it has shipped yesterday by TNT (not UPS which is strange). He called TNT and they said that the package is going to Rome (because he put postcode for Rome in the postcode field) but they will revert it to Finland after it has reached Rome :p

It's interesting to see how this develops :)

Everyone move to Finland lol.... maybe it is just down to luck then with who at apple processes the order

from what i can see, on the italian apple site, there are delivery times of 2weeks for any iphone 3gs...

Guys, still no one got any confirmed shipping date from handtec?

When i ordered they told me 2 weeks. Today they called me because they wanted to do address check (i think this is reassuring) they told me within 2-3 days the new stocks will arrive, and we should have the iphone by next week. Though from personal experience with internet shopping i wouldn't hold my breath ;)

I can't even see my order on their website but they assured me its because it's not moved yet?? My credit card is so damn slow.. its not even shown up yet on my statement!

That is good news, hopefully by Monday we should all know a lot more.

unlocked iphone 3G?

What are the risk of unlocking an iphone 3G? Is it possible to restore it to the 'locked' version?

I live in US, but am from Italy (where I am in this period). Would you consider buying an officially unlocked iphone, instead? Or, in the worst case, if I unlock my locked US one, I can always restore it to the original (locked) version?

I do not care about warranty issues: since my warranty period is almost over.

Thanks!

yes you can restore it back to be locked again as if you never unlocked it.

for second question, It is better to pay more to get unlocked phone to do not worry later about any updates but for sure you are the only one who can decide if you have money to pay more or not.

As time goes on, I'm less likely to purchase a 3GS. Especially for €699.
I'm pretty much sure that next year is going to be a new form-factor with new assets. Do you wait or do you drop in now?

If you are tight in cash, then i would definitely wait (i am assuming you already have 3G). However, if cash is available then you can always buy now, and then find an excuse to buy the new one next year ;)
