So who got their appointment personal shopping for the iPhone on friday? Was surprised Apple kept quiet about this till the email they sent out.Thought they wouldn't be doing them initially, as the appointment services wasn't showing anything for friday onwards, but they are now...

Me, just seen the e-mail and booked an appointment.

Was going to but the earliest appointment I was able to book at the Southampton store was 10am. Think I'd prefer the peace of mind of getting there earlier just in case there are any stock issues! Already sold my 3G so need to be sure I get the 3GS asap! :)
Not seen the email yet, anyone got a link?
Just go to the apple retail store website, select your store and follow the personal shopping link to set up an appointment.

Know the feeling - got a 10am appointment, just wondering how many PAYG versions they have (ideal world, they'd just have a box of SIMs to convert any of their stock to PAYG, but I don't know if a handset is preordained as needing to be sold as PAYG...). WOndering if they'll actually announce prices/that they're selling them... Thursday evening call to the store methinks

The retail boxes are exactly the same. With a PAYG they just give you a PAYG sim pack with it.

However they may allocate certain quantities for PAYG and certain quantities for contract phones.

So what's happening for Apple stores - are they doing PAYG handsets on Friday? Seems strange they're still haven't got a price - Wouldn't want to wait outside Apple only to find I was camping the wrong store! (I'm guessing that there will be a majority of early adopters who're going PAYG as they're still in contract in the UK). If not, it's queueing outside an O2 store instead...

I haven't seen any official confirmation but I'd be amazed if Apple Stores were not going to sell the PAYG.

They do sell iphones with contract in the Apple Store don't they? Was talking to a mate who said he was going to the o2 shop as they only did payg in the apple store?

Also - from the o2 pay monthly page:

YOu can use your text bundle to send picture messages in the UK and abroad. One picture message equals four normal texts, or if you've no bundle text texts left, they cost 24.47p a message (21.28p excluding VAT).

(haha typo)

does this mean picture messages come out of your monthly allowance? even if abroad?

Well they've got to be selling something! 1 MMS = 4 SMS taken from your allowance. Beyond the allowance, I guess the price is 4x regular SMS pricing

They do sell iPhones with a contract. Confirmed here:

.... now you have me worried. But they are selling PaYG now so why not friday

My only reservation is that, last year, with the 3G they deliberately delayed the launch of the PAYG (for a couple of months IIRC) so as to encourage as many peopl as possible to sign up for contracts.

I'm very suspicious that they haven't yet posted 3GS prices on the U.K. Apple Store website.

Cue all the people who previously ranted about the lack of MMS complaining bitterly about their phone bills.

Same here mate.

Just phone your local Apple store and ask! I'm sure they'll be able to tell you if they're selling PAYG or not, simples.

I'd be shocked if they weren't as I have had confirmation from O2 that they will be. CPW seem to be clueless as usual....I think the reason Apple haven't posted prices yet is to not confuse people with pre-orders. If they had a price there, you would be able to buy it. This is the way the apple site has always been.

From the Apple UK Web site:

The Apple Retail Store is the perfect place to get your iPhone. When you arrive, a Concierge in an orange shirt will direct you to the iPhone bay where you can take advantage of our free Personal Setup. A Specialist will help you choose an iPhone, Pay & Go or Pay Monthly rate plan, and — best of all — have your new iPhone ready to make calls, browse the web, and receive personal email right on the spot.

But is that a reference to the 3G or does it include the 3GS?

Woohoo, thanks for the idea guys, got my personal shopping session at Sheffield store for 11am. As it's in Meadowhall, which doesn't open til 10am, the shop itself doesn't open before 10am (unless there's special rules for iPhone launches?), so hopefully enough left by 11am to skip the queue and get the model I want! (Fingers SO crossed!)

Want the 32Gb white model on contract...
