iPhone 3GS UK Discussion thread

Just phoned my local Apple Store (Exeter) and they have assured me they will be doing PAYG 3G(S) on Friday.

Why does the UK store not even show a price for PAYG then?
 
I booked slot with my local Apple Store for 9am (earliest I could get)..

My worry now though is if the store is opening at 8am will they keep phones back for the people with appointments ? As what is to say they don't sell all of the phones in the first hour !

I shall be gutted if I turn up at 9am and find they have all gone.

Why don't you still go down for 8am and try and get one, then if you do, great, cancel the appointment but if you don't still go to the appointment and hope they reserved you one! :D

I really can't see them selling out so quickly this time around. I wouldn't worry :)
 
Does anyone know if Mobiles.co.uk will be selling the Iphone on PAYG come friday? I notice they do next day special delivery, could be an option if i cant get into town on friday
 
The closest store to me is CPW...like 2 minutes or less! but the popular opinion seems to be to avoid CPW stores like a plague. My nearest O2 store is in Bond Street and my nearest Apple Store is the Regent Street flagship. Obviously both will definitely be hammered and i think i'd have a better chance of getting a phone at the CPW store

My question is will it be possible to pop in there and pick up a PAYG 16GB and get out without hassle?

If i can't get one on friday i don't think i'll bother again...the temptation would've died and will just start using the warranty replacement 3G i'm currently selling
 
Still no PAYG price on either the Apple website, or Carphone Warehouse. There is nothing stopping either from simply stating a price on the website. O2 might have rights to selling PAYG from release date, and only O2 (for a short period of time).

Suppose we'll find out tomorrow. Would love it if it's cheaper than O2. Love it!

Multiple people have posted on here that multiple Apple Stores have confirmed PAYG will be being sold by them tomorrow, so can we finally put this one to bed now?
 
I'm still not decided whether to get it or not :confused: I've got to go to school tomorrow late morning for clearance at the end of 6th form :cool: and there's the slight issue that £538 is more than my debit card limit :p


I'm not gonna camp out or anything, but will probably go just after opening.
For clarity;
  • When are O2 stores opening?
  • When are CPW stores opening?
  • When are Apple stores opening?


(July '08 3G so getting 3G on PAYGO).

I was going to go PAYG first but then found a great deal,
it will be about £800 after 18 months for a 16gb 3gs which
is actually not too bad.

Try a contract

I believe O2 open at 9.02
Apple at 8.00
Carphone warehouse 9.00
 
I just had a call from Apple at the Trafford Centre about my personal shopping appointment @ 9am. I told the guy I was after an iPhone 3GS 16GB in Black on PAYG.

I asked if it was worth turning up early in case they ran out of stock. The guy said they had loads in stock, and there was no need to turn up early, I'd get one at 9am. Perfect!

He did say that the PAYG iPhone requires you to top up the sim card in store when you purchase it. Hope this clears some things up!

Fair enough but the price is still currently unknown. That was my main point. Regardless, just because people post it on a rumors site doesn't mean it's fact. ;)
 
Just got back from my local CPW and they won't be selling to PAYG till next. Grrr. Only O2 & the Apple store can sell PAYG phones. Unfortunately for me my nearest O2 & Apple stores are situated in popular busy areas so getting one 'might be a problem'

That's good news as that's exactly (time, place + phone) the same as what I'm doing tomorrow. I've not had a call off apple yet though :(

Regards the topping up of payg sim, I'm going to be putting my current o2 non iphone sim in it so does anyone know if i'll have to top up the new sim? I don't want to be spending a tenner if i don't have to.

man such a shame Apples doesnt open at 7am like in the US now.

I figure I'll have play on Saturday in the shop and see how wowed I am by the speed. More storage, better camera, video, compass etc are all nice but the speed will be the decisive factor I reckon. £538 ain't cheap.

yup only CPW here too (which I had horrible time with for the 3G launch!) .. phoned them this morning and they won't have the PAYG for tomorrow .. will be the end of next week (or so!) .. I will order online with Apple tomorrow and avoid the payment for SIM too .. throw my 3G SIM and I'll be all set :eek:)

That might be my next move too although i have a personal shopping appointment for 3pm at Regent Street but i don't think i'll go. Oh well in the meantime i'll have fun playing with 3.0
