That's good news as that's exactly (time, place + phone) the same as what I'm doing tomorrow. I've not had a call off apple yet though :(

Regards the topping up of payg sim, I'm going to be putting my current o2 non iphone sim in it so does anyone know if i'll have to top up the new sim? I don't want to be spending a tenner if i don't have to.

Rob

I was told my the store rep you have to top up the sim that comes with the phone via a top up on the o2 web site. Guess I'll be seeing you there tomorrow!

My local O2 shop says they have "quite a lot" of PAYG iPhones ready for tomorrow, but they have no idea what the demand will be like, so they don't know whether they will have enough to go round.

I guess it's difficult to predict this time around!

Just got an email from the Apple Store:

So PAYG need to top up on purchase? I guess it's a government security thing but I love that they'll let you pay £440+ cash for the handset but you have to use a card for a £10 top-up.

Ah but forcing you to use a card means the SIM is linked to you personally, so if you're planning any terrorist activities the feds can come after you ;)

LOL!

You need a credit/debit card as Apple have no way of topping up an O2 mobile, so they have to do it by using o2.co.uk - requiring a credit/debit card for the top up!

I spoke to 02 twice about this today to two different people in my local store (Leamington Spa).

Activation is done via iTunes, but the contract is setup within the store.

I went into an O2 store today asking about the PAYG option, and they said I had to activate the phone instore via iTunes. Apparently a new policy.

I don't see the point of it?

Do we know definite opening times yet?

I've just looked at O2/CPW/Apple websites and none mention early opening...

So for me in Bath I guess it's:
  • O2 @ 9:02 (as normal)
  • 3x CPW stores all @ 9:00 (as normal)
  • Apple in Bristol @ 9:30 (as normal) - although somewhere I saw a rumour reckoning it'll be 8:00.

Also, rumor that only O2 & Apple will have PAYGO handsets tomorrow?
And fact that O2 & Apple will have PAYGO handsets online tomorrow. With Mobiles.co.uk having them next week.

Comments?

I'm going to put it out there and say there won't be any stock issues. We'll all get our phones and then spend the rest of the day weary from getting up so early.

My CPW order was cancelled after my bank refused the 1p card test. This is a regular occurrence since I have moved and I order anything to my new address online. So after talking to CPW and asking if I can just go in the morning and pick up a PAYG just so I have one I was told that it was unlikely due to the amount of pre orders that they would have any in. I then phoned 02 who said that they would have loads in and not to worry but to go to the shop as they will not have many for ordering online

That was the bit I wanted to hear, so hopefully I WILL be upgrading from my 1st gen iPhone in the Bullring AppleStore at 8am tomorrow morning!

I will still post on here to report if it was a success.

Seems a bit ridiculous. Anyone else heard this? It will only make queueing longer.

Apple's concierge called me to clarify my appointment tomorrow (at the BullRing). He said they open at 8am and 4 people at a time will be called in. Should be about 1/2 hour to do contracts etc.

Though I plan to get there at 08:00 just in case I can get in earlier.
