I did not understand about trying to avoid paying for stuff completely. I am trying to find a way to copy movie into Ipad from my thumb drive. Do you mean, where did that movie come from into thumb drive?

You talked about free apps.....

I get what you're saying now. Best way is just load it into iTunes. There are various third party apps like Plex that allow you to use your computer or HD as a media server.

I'll admit it isn't the easiest. I suppose being able to drag directly into some media folder in the device would be easier. But it's not impossible and certainly not terribly difficult.

But that's why I'm going digital. I can take my movie library with me wherever I go. I make sure my devices are synced with my laptop (that way when you want to move a new movie over, it's as easy as checking a box) so I can do so on the go.

But mostly, I just purchase my stuff in iTunes. No need to transfer anything as iCloud keeps all my movies available for download or streaming at any time across all my devices.

If you are in your home, you can also Home Share the movie to a phone or tablet without having to actually transfer the file. I use Home Share a lot.

----------

I really really want dropbox though, icloud drive wont work on my android devices

I believe I read they are supporting windows, but we shall see how it works

I'll still take the icloud drive support though, better than no option at all for sure

I'm talking about iCloud Drive replacing the current attachment ribbon.

So when you hold press, instead of "attach photo or video", it will say "attach file from iCloud Drive" which will then bring up your iCloud Drive folders and files....

OR - I just had this thought.....

Perhaps Extensibility will allow for an app like DropBox to place itself in the attachment ribbon. So you can attach from whatever app puts itself in that option.....similar to how apps can and will be able to do more from the share sheet.

I think there's a lot more to Extensions and iCloud Drive than we know. There's so much they have to hold back because a lot of iOS 8 depends on developers. There are TONS of new features and things we'll get independent from the actual OS release in various app updates.....

iOS 8 is really huge....I don't think people quite understand how huge.

I really hope extensibility can act like your suggestion, I'm surprised they didnt really cover anything productivity based in the keynote. I guess it's not too exciting for most poeple. Nothing gets me going like not needing to go find a computer to send an email attachment :p

What are you talking about? the displays are high res and large screens.
Oh god, no pens ever please!
As far as the rest, I dont feel as though I am missing out on anything

We are talking about things that were implemented on Android first and are not half baked, poor implementations. Some are claiming that android may bring features out first but that they are shoddy and half baked. Where as Apple always gets it right first time.

Lol - keynotes are tough.....they try to touch on the things that people do most. Hence why camera improvements and messages get a bulk of the time.

And really, since so much of it will be up to devs, there's a lot they don't know yet. Similar to what Cook said about the Watch. Devs will come up with stuff they haven't thought of yet.

That's where some of the most exciting stuff lies.

Not always, but a majority of the time yes. People will point to maps and Siri....I think there are some extenuating circumstances with features that need user input but neither worked well off the bat.

Overall though, its less about individual features and more about the cohesiveness of the OS - at least for me. Google seems to think so too as Android L is bringing in a more uniform and cohesive design language across various menus, features and apps.

Why are there so many Android fanboys on this forum..? If anything I thought there would be more Apple fanboys on an Apple forum.

Title of this sub forum is Alternatives to iOS and iOS Devices

----------

All I'm gonna say is one of my friends has a S5, every time he opens his app drawer and swipes right, it stutters. Why should a device with "hardware 4x faster" than the iPhone 5s' lag and stutter when the 5s never does?

I have another friend with the note 3 and same situation on there is true with the app drawer. And whenever he opens a game there will be a solid 2 second delay before anything happens and then the screen stutters and rotates and then start the game.

Note 3 users here and the above doesn't "stutter" or lag when doing those things. Feel free to post a game of choice, I'll buy it and post a vid back for you to see should there be a doubt.

Apple does it better yes. It's not even an opinion, it's fact

iMaps much?
Notifications....really?
Widgets?
Printing?
Drag and drop file sharing?
Texting from my Windows PC?

Yeah....okay.

----------

get out of the alternatives section man - that sentence is the epitome of an opinion

Waiting for him/her to back it up with facts....it will get interesting.

Testing from OSX with continuity. iCloud drive for drag and drop(yes I've tried between two macs) widgets, I stated why I prefer Apples implementation but you would be stupid to say Apple had it first. Notifications again, Android has the lead on.

Are you referring to air print? Cause I hate how few printers it supports. I would have expected support for all wireless printers.

They give you 64 for the price you paid for 32 in prior versions. How is that "to make more money"?
Forces you to upgrade to the 64GB model. They still make a profit.

----------

Clearly they didn't with the Apple Watch, I mean, that thing looks like a turd of a smartwatch Samsung would put out.
3 diffirent body styles plus q lot of different straps. Which combo are you calling ugly?

Thanks man. I guess, I will try to drop it in dropbox and try playing from some media player on Ipad. Anyway I think android/windows is convenient to me. End of the day, there are amazing phones with every OS.

when I can text from a Windows PC that nearly every business uses, let me know. I use Airdroid at the office all day and never have to pick up my phone.

iCloud drive for drag and drop(yes I've tried between two macs)

open to being wrong, but I don't see this with iCloud on a Windows machine and an iPhone in my hand. Compared to my Note 3 that is drag and drop all day with no issues.

widgets, I stated why I prefer Apples implementation but you would be stupid to say Apple had it first. Notifications again, Android has the lead on.

I just think both notifications and widgets on my Note 3 are far better than my iPad Air.

I don't have any iPrint capable printers thus part of the problem. On my Note 3 it will connect to any wireless printer without issue. Perhaps at some point iOS will allow such a simple thing too.

and to add 64gb to a Note 3 costs like $35.

External storage is far inferior to having all internal. It's noticably slower, not tied into the internal storage and you have to manually manage what is going on the internal and external storage. Big PITA.

How are they making more profit? If you previously would've chosen 16GB, it's still available at the same price. If you want 32GB, for the same money you would've previously spend, you now get an extra 32GB. The underhanded move by Apple would've been to not offer 32GB and keep the 64GB price the same as last year.

Yes, I would've loved to see them start with 32GB but it doesn't cost you any more this year than it did last year to get the same amount of storage.

Holding in one hand and USING in one hand are different, correct?

The Note series allows for one hand use but if you have small hands, it will allow you to reduce the actual screen size for dedicated one hand use and allow you to choose left or right.

Given the 6+ is just as wide & I don't see those options or nearly as easy one hand use. But let's see if they perhaps offering something in iOS 8.1 that does what the Note series has had for a while now. Just seems funny overall that the 6+ is 5.5 and Phablet size yet there's no stylus to use or design around one. They may as well just made a slightly smaller phone IMO.

The point of my photos is LOL at The Verge and how they change their tune once Apple has a phone as big and in fact bigger (taller) which to me is LOL too given a Note is already big and I certainly don't need a phone that will be sticking out the top of my jeans pocket any more...but that's exactly what an iP6+ will do. Not to mention it's thinner and more likely to break/bend when I sit down even if it's by accident say when I get in my car and forget my phone is back there.

Not sure how you could forget a phone that big is in your back pocket. ;):D
