Ok I'll give you backups but I think messages depends on your contacts and what messaging apps they use. For someone like me I only use imessage to communicate with my mum. Everyone else, whether they have an iPhone or an android device uses other apps.

Ya - tough to compare but Messages is a HUGE plus in favor of iOS for me.

FAR better than Hangouts and getting my friends and family to sign up for various third party services just isn't feasible.

Messages is only getting stronger with iOS 8 too.

To be honest, I challenge people the other way - what does Android do that iOS can't. The main things are customization and torrents. There are more specific examples that usually have to do with a certain process (the end task is doable on iOS, but someone prefers a certain way to do said task).

Honestly, I'm getting over this whole argument of which is better and why. Ultimately - who the eff cares? As long as the device you purchase works for you?

Reason I get upset sometimes is when people spread absolute nonsense on these threads. Similar to those of you who push back against the "it lags" comments against Android.

We all do argue about completely useless stuff, lol. But without that these forums wouldn't exist.

Pretty much or you just don't notice it, in either case, good for you that you feel it's up to your standards.
ah, at last i've found the android lag specialist. i'm just here to deliver a good news to you that an award is waiting for you.

I've used Note 2, Note 3, Tab Pro/S, Nexus 5, Galaxy S5, LG G3... you name it... they're laggy. If you don't perceive them as laggy.. good for you, we have different standards and use smartphones differently. Personally I'm tired of a slow phone. I'd gladly take speed over some of the great functionalities of the Android OS.

just curious though, why so many android devices when they were not up to your standard? clearly you seem to be have disposable money, so why not buy iphone?

the what is better doesn't exist afterall. It what OS you like more and what company you like to stick with. apple or samsung there isn't a bad option.

iphone 6 4.7, 5.5 or note 4/S5 you are getting a top device either way.

What about simple drag and drop by connecting to laptop without installing itunes/syncing for copying movies/songs/docs just like a external drive. Purchasing apps anywhere from browser and third party app stores (amazon appstore which throws up decent promotions. Got minecrast, terraria apps for my kid for free ). I am not trying to arguing against Apple. Trying to understand how you guys are handling these situations which will guide me my future purchase decisions.

I'm probably a bit controlling but I like having a real filing system so that I can arrange my videos and music just how I like it. I find purchasing and organising my music a lot easier on android. As for videos, the whole thing is just a mess on Apple. Sorry all my personal videos were just thrown into the video app, with no organisation. I had to then start labelling them on my laptop before I transferred them to my iPhone, just so that there was some order and clarity. Also I like the fact that I can edit file names on my phone after I have transferred them to the phone.

set default apps? access file system? attach files to email, not just pictures? use/manage device using wifi on any computer, without special software, automation using Tasker? etc etc.

this is just typical stuffs that can be done without any root-ing. if you are rooted, some advanced stuffs can be done of course.

Thanks for the reply. I tried this for simple pdf files. I can upload to dropbox/box. From box.com app, able to open pdf file by choosing ibooks app. I think, it saves in ipad. Does it work for movies as well. Which video players I have to choose to open movie file?
How do you guys manage app purchases and syncing? Do you keep copy of all apps on your laptop for syncing. I guess, I am not familiar with all the syncing options when I tried. I was never able to sync the way I wanted ( keep a copy on ipad and not on laptop).

Super High resolution displays
Larger screens
Multi window
S-pen
Notification panel
Widgets
IR blasters.

All features which appeared first on android (or are still not on iOS) which are well implemented.

What are you talking about? the displays are high res and large screens.
Oh god, no pens ever please!
As far as the rest, I dont feel as though I am missing out on anything

oh, you dont care.. so it must be poorly implemented..

Im not saying those are poorly implemented. Those listed features werent on my android devices when I had them, so I cant comment about their implementation. But if I dont feel like Im missing out, then they are doing something wrong, right? I mean if these "great features" cant convince me to switch, then there must be a reason.

But ultimately what is the goal for these two examples? Are you simply trying to avoid paying for stuff?

iTunes is capable, but you really don't need it with various music apps and iCloud drive.

I don't get why people say you can't attach things to emails. I have an presentation on Google slides (docs) and I clicked share and the share menu pops up with a bunch of options and one of them is mail. I easily can email it to people as a PowerPoint or pdf.

not in a reply, must always start a new thread, and I dont believe it works for all files, it relies on the dev implementing the share feature with mail

no. we just want a phone that works, and works right with no lag.

Can only speak for my Note 3 running Nova Launcher, but there's no lag on my phone. YMMV on other platforms.

i felt like android takes too many steps to do something like you have to press 6 buttons before u can make a call.

?? If my Note 3 is in sleep mode, I can press the home button, unlock it (I have mine set to lock always) Press the phone button and then either go to favorite or the keypad or contacts or logs. The great thing is I can create a shortcut for a contact and it on my home screen. Honestly though I usually just double tap the home button and say "call Joe Smith Mobile" Works great.

apps look so much better on iOS devices

I see zero difference in my hundreds of apps.

and i didn't like the way android uses mms for group chats and the pictures don't automatically load, you can to click it in the message for it to open.

Not sure I follow, but I don't use the default Note 3/Android messenger app. Mine is pretty robust and can do just about everything you described.

set default apps? Purpose? Changing for the sake of changing isn't a feature - if there are some legitimate reasons, sure. Apple's first party apps are better than Google's IMO so the need to change them on iOS is somewhat diminished. Also, I'd argue extensibility in iOS 8 will eliminate much of the need to set a specific app as the default for a specific task as apps will be far more intertwined.

access file system? Again, for what purpose? Pictures are automatically saved together, music is grouped etc. iCloud Drive will provide the ability to access certain folders, but IMO the file system is an antiquated UI.

attach files to email, not just pictures? You can attach files, but I get what you're saying. This has been on my list of things I want in iOS (it was one of three). iCloud Drive will address this - I'm extremely confident despite not having seen it in action.

use/manage device using wifi on any computer, without special software, automation using Tasker? Again, for what purpose? Messaging, calls, various apps can be used across various devices seamlessly and Handoff/Continuity makes it even more so.

this is just typical stuffs that can be done without any root-ing. if you are rooted, some advanced stuffs can be done of course.I've used Tasker before - there's nothing "typical" about it. It requires quite a bit of technical knowledge the average smartphone user wouldn't know.

Which to me makes no sense. One of those mystery's of why apple wont include that. I agree its a pain with attachments in email. You cant send anything other then a photo in the mail app.:(

I did not understand about trying to avoid paying for stuff completely. I am trying to find a way to copy movie into Ipad from my thumb drive. Do you mean, where did that movie come from into thumb drive?

Sure, they don't have S-Beam, or whatever other number of "features" the fandroids point to, but given the choice people overwhelmingly choose iPhone.

and millions of people shop and wal-mart and vote for obama too. overwhelmingly the masses make dumb decisions a lot.

I really really want dropbox though, icloud drive wont work on my android devices

I believe I read they are supporting windows, but we shall see how it works

I'll still take the icloud drive support though, better than no option at all for sure
