Does Google Wallet work outside the states?

I would assume so - Android has a much larger marketshare in other countries....though the impact likely isn't as large given the size of the US's consumer economy.....

Part of the reason why we're just now moving out of the "stone age" with respect to magnetic stripes.

Well we moved on from magnetic strips years ago in the UK. We use chip and pin.

Would be nice if we could transfer cross-platform.

it is all up to apple. i can even now share my media content or mirror the screen from my mbpr to android tv box easily.

i have win/android/osx(/ios) and no problem working crossplatform. but i must say that if i ever have faced a problem it has been always something to do with apple and stupid restrictions. e.g. apples own bt standard.

Because the people in this forum own both Apple and non-Apple products. That seems to be blasphemy for many here.

The consensus for many Apple only owners is that because we don't follow suit, it is due to our lack of understanding of Apples intent behind their products. That couldn't be further from the truth. Some of us just use the tools that allow us to accomplish daily tasks in a manner that are conducive to us. Because some of us can see things through a lens other than our own, it makes us bias when we point out some simple truths.

Disclaimer: I don't speak for everyone <- The obvious, but seems it needs to be said around here.
Thank you.

My desktop computer is a mac, laptop is a macbook air, and my tablet is an iPad. My TV comes via Apple TV. But since I happen to own a Samsung Note for my phone I am some kind of "traitor" around here.

Right - the US's retail/consumer economy is the largest (err maybe second largest to China now) in the world....moving on from the magnetic stripe has been a long painful process.....too many retailers and big banks stuck in their ways.

Luckily, we're headed into the modern world. Various retailers (and all major banks) on board with Apple Pay. And many retailers have already prepared for October 2015, when all fraud risk for traditional swipe and sign payments will be transferred to the retailers, by adding support for chip and pin cards.

Went to both Target and Walmart this past weekend and both had new payment terminals.

What do you think of the 6+? Was the reason you went with a Note the size? Does the 6+ change that for you?

I'm very curious to see how people will react.....it seems like a key reason people initially move to Android is the display size, but I don't know how large a reason it is.

Interesting to hear from people in your shoes - all Apple with the exception of a Note.

I owned an Android once. Biggest piece of crap ever. I would liken it to a Ford Edsel. When the IPhone six comes to a store near me I'll get one. It will be my 3rd iPhone never any problems. Had nothing but problems with the android. I gave my I-4 to my Grandaughter. Might sell this an I-5 on the bay. They bring nearly 500 dollars on there.

in fairness apple should of done this years ago but they finally did and should be given credit for that IMO.

Not good enough compared to note line for me but still very good devices.

Again, though, what good is having no contracts if the payment system actually can't be used? Where's the motivation to adopt it? As it stands, the US carriers 'consortium' restricting anything other than own Softcard (formerly ISIS) is a huge barrier and Google hasn't done anything to change it.

Aye there is no motivation for adoption. It seems like google is waiting on vendors to upgrade their POS units to support EMV, which almost always includes NFC.

Anywhere Apple pay is accepted google wallet appears like it should work, I am very happy. Due to the lack of contracts, it should work at NFC terminals that don't have whatever agreements are necessary for apple pay to work as well (which is probably no one :p)

Apple is going to rise google wallet adoption and use :)

I'm really not sure about the idiosyncrasies that come with carrier phones with respect to google wallet because I will never buy a carrier phone :)

My gs4 ge was compatible with the old hardware component style google wallet and the new host card emulation style, fwiw. Using Att

iPhone 6 - Welcome to 2012?

Haha I posted once and have received two(so far) ugly private messages. Sorry if my comparing android to a Ford Edsel upset anyone. I had a galaxy fascinate. Wife too. If you really think that was a quality phone I feel sorry for you. Please don't send me PM's. Really not interested in a dialogue over a cell phone. I'm happy hopefully your happy lets leave it at that.

I think forum users just wonder at the intelligence/trollishness of someone who eschews an entire product segment because of one budget phone which was released FOUR YEARS AGO! Yeah maybe that Ford Edsel reference doesn't surprise me much lol. Hey I've got a much more modern car for you, it's called a Datsun.

I have been looking forward to the 5.5" iPhone, but I'm still not sure if I will get it.

It has been nearly 2 years since switching to Android for my phones. I am not sure what I will be giving up going back to the iPhone, so will need to think hard about it.

Ironically I just de-TouchWiz'd my Note so right now it feels like I have a new phone that is 4x faster. I had no idea how much slower it ran under Touchwiz. But a week ago I felt my speed was absymal--often slowing down when needed the most, such as when wanting to take a quick pic.

As for the Apple ecosystem I am pretty much divorced from it. I use Chrome as my browser on everything and am happy with it. Google/Gmail is about all I use for email, contacts, tasks and calendars. Gmail collects and funnels the rest of my mail too--including work. Google music is where my music lives.

The number of people in my circle who use iPhones has diminished in the last couple of years so that iMessage is no longer something I miss all that much.

All that said I miss the iPhone, to a certain degree. While my Note is now sporting a new and fast KitKat 4.4.4 rom I had to work through a lot of kinks to get it to play nice. I don't tinker all the time: so a month from now I will not be wanting to play around with my phone should something go awry (unless I am in the tinkering mood). Indeed I had been limping along on a less-than-ideal ROM for months since the person who created it stopped supporting it and I had something running that was killing performance. I had no idea what and didn't want to spend days finding it.

So right now it is between the Note 4 and the iPhone 6 Plus. Maybe a couple others as well.

Cool thanks for explaining. I've become more and more an iOS person and less and less interested in why other people think I'm stupid for it.

As a fellow user of many Apple products, continuity and hand-off look like killer features. I have far more friends and family in the Apple ecosystem though so things like iMessage, AirDrop and PhotoStreams are a really big deal. Probably toward the top of the list of reasons I stick with iOS.

The biggest reason though is a lot like yours - somewhat inexplicable, but I just feel like I work better on an iPhone or iOS device. Familiarity is probably the biggest reason, but I've gotten pretty familiar with Android over the last two years. There's just an intangible there with Apple products. Call me crazy.....but they just work for me.

Android rushes out new features, they are always buggy and sometimes are never refined. Apple takes its time to make sure the features and software are stable before they release it (with the major exception of Apple Maps of course). So while the nexus 4 may have had them first, the iphone 6 has them better.

I would hope they are better implemented.........

Super High resolution displays
Larger screens
Multi window
S-pen
Notification panel
Widgets
IR blasters.

All features which appeared first on android (or are still not on iOS) which are well implemented.

I find the 'better implementation' comments similar to the 'it lags' comments

they are useless without specific examples..

I would wager it is because the user doesnt know the product enough to cite a specific example

and that is the best example, along with backups

but neither of those things are in the OP image :)

Ok I'll give you backups but I think messages depends on your contacts and what messaging apps they use. For someone like me I only use imessage to communicate with my mum. Everyone else, whether they have an iPhone or an android device uses other apps.

yea it really depends on the person and what their friends/family use. The point is iMessage is the default which is what most people will use. Plus the sms and iMessage is one thread is great. Another example is FaceTime. My mom who is not that good with technology finds it easy to FaceTime me without having to download some 3rd party app.
