Apple needs to have real time tracking for the orders like Prime Now does.

I ordered a Gold 7+ 256 GB at 12:15 AM Pacific. My order number starts with W51 and according to Apple's Order Status Update page, my order is Preparing for Shipment for a scheduled delivery on September 16, so I guess that I got lucky.
Just thought I'd throw out a little timeline for everyone... I'd also like to say that if your phone says Delivery on the 16th, you are getting it on the 16th. Apple will work with you to make sure this happens in case of any issues with your order.
First the order will shift from "Order Received" to "Processing". Then it will shift from "Processing" to "Preparing for Shipment." Around this time, you will also be charged/have a pending charge on your credit or debit card used. Don't worry if your card is declined, you will have 24 hours to correct any issues without losing your spot in line/launch day delivery. Now the more fun part of the preorder process occurs. Begin looking at your "support profile" ( supportprofile.apple.com ), the iPhone 7/7 Plus that you ordered will eventually appear. Once it is there, you have been assigned a phone and tracking info will likely soon be available by searching UPS/Fedex by reference number, either your billing phone number or the order number (minus the leading W). Apple will not release tracking numbers until Wednesday or Thursday next week, so it will likely stay at "preparing for shipment" until then, but do not worry. Your phone is on its way to your hands on the 16th, provided that that is your expected delivery date.

Not necessary. I have a W41 in processing status. Matte black Plus 128 Gb for delivery on oct 4-10
Sorry to say but you might get one of those emails telling you it's back ordered.
I doubt it, but I'll keep you posted when I have it in hand next Friday.
may seem like a dumb question...but if you're ordering the phone from the apple website...the phone is unlocked right?
