From mu previous experiences, the preorders actually ship expedited, even if it says standard. That's the reason why they arrive a week earlier than the expected delivery date.

Calling CS to change the shipping method will reflect the real date, but in reality won't change the date that you'll receive your iPhone.

I might be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that's the way it works

Happened to me with the iPhone 6 Plus not with the Apple Watch though, and since the jet black seems to be especially delayed it doesn't hurt to be on the safe side :)

Update:

I was about to close out of the live chat but an agent became available. Tried for the fun of it, told her it was my dad's birthday and I needed the phone sooner.

Didn't work.

Yeah it seems they have a different set of guidelines from the phone agents. I actually told her that my current 6s Plus fell recently and the screen cracked so I needed a new phone ASAP. Didn't help. Said she was sorry to hear but there's nothing she can do and actually tried to convince me that it's already great that I was able to order and got the delivery estimate I got.

I just got off phone with Apple rep. She politely stated that due to the color of my iPhone, jet black, there was nothing she could do to expedite the November delivery. Did the friend thing, and also that son wanted to take phone on trip mid October. Jet black phone supplies are simply exhausted so improvement was impossible.

Suspect if you have received improvement it was already going to ship in that time frame anyway. Think November times for Jet Black are yet to be built phones.

I'm on hold to upgrade to expedited shipping for my 27-29th phone, in case it doesn't get bumped.

Are they generally doing this? If so, I don't mind waiting.

I tried it this morning and they told me it can't be upgraded to any rush shipping. I was updating my billing even though it didn't need it they said. It still says 27-29 for a matte 32 gb plus. I ordered at 3:15 am eastern. Still processing no charges.

I just got done with chat support which was no help. I was basically told that everyone who got their shipping upgraded by phone support will have their phones delayed.....like i said no help at all.

I wasn't calling for that, just asked if i could get expedited shipping. Expedited shipping on a back ordered phone would help when it becomes available....

LOL People do not listen on here. Calling Apple to speed up a backordered phone isn't going to work Jesus....
Everyone thinks they are special. Like I told my son when he saw people driving on shoulder past us in traffic jam. He asked why can they do that dad? They are special, I told my son, just ask them and they will tell you they are special.

If you order a product and it is going to take an extremely long time to receive it. I don't see nothing wrong with calling. You would just be asking to recieve the product just as the other people who ordered just some hours or a day before you that isn't asking much, special treatment no.

Nothing about being special. Even if calling does nothing but show the actual delivery date I would prefer to know exactly when my phone arrives so I can be home to receive it. Like I said before - it certainly doesn't hurt.

It doesnt matter if it was minutes beforehand, the Apple system I'm sure has it right and the demand for certain models were great. Just like people calling and complaining about the Jet Black knowing that was the most anticipated model.

Let's push back someone else's shipping because we are whiny and entitled. Great idea.

Did that someone care that unlike them the store didn't work right away for others despite the fact that they stayed up just like everybody else? Did they say "Oh no let's wait for all those people who didn't get to order so there's enough inventory"? Don't think so. I also don't think that getting expedited shipping screws someone else's order in any way.

What did you say to get expidited shipping? I have the same delivery date as you originally had, I'm intrigued because It'd be brilliant to push that forward. Does it cost too?
I was just straight up honest and acted really nice. I told them if they could that would be great but I understand you all are getting hammered and having a hard day so if you can't I totally understand. They gave it to me free after that. Honesty and kindness go a long way. Absolutely no way I will say I have a friend that you all did it for when I have no such friend. If you really do have that friend then go for it. Integrity is far more important than an early shipment date.

From past multiple years of doing this, Apple wants to ship as many iPhones as quickly as possible to as many people as possible. While asking doesn't hurt, it actually doesn't help either. It more of feeling like you have a bit of control, when in reality you don't. Quoting a week earlier delivery time is simply taking out any float that was in the quote to begin with and would have be done automatically if at all possible.

Anyone that got an improvement, may now be disappointed if their is the slightest bit of hiccup and the date slips. By design Apple provided the for sure date first, always intending to improve on it if at all possible. Apple does not have any reason to delay shipping product that is available.

Interestingly, what other phone receives this much attention upon release. The excitement and anticipation is something other manufacturers would love to have. In effect marketing by the consumers. Free every year.

So it only changes the shipping time not the time that it takes to ship it out. Mine has always said 6-8 days to ship it out. But instead of a delivery day of the 29 it is now the 20th.

Did you phone up for expedited shipping or did they just change it generally?
