Think it's foolish to suggest the new Samsung phones aren't a huge threat right now. They clearly are with what they have brought out this year. Their sales Fiqures for Q1 shows this

I think Samsung have made some great hardware, don't get me wrong in that I will give credit where it's due. The S7 Edge looks nice and I've always been a fan of the note with the S pen, the reason I wouldn't switch to either of those tho is because of Andriod and Touchwiz. This is where I think IOS is much better, and with the rumoured dual camera feature in the iPhone 7 Plus or the rumoured iPhone Pro, it will be a must have upgrade for me.

It seems that Samsung had a good quarter. I think they can start building steam if they continue but idk how much of those results are influenced by the early bogo offers at least in the us.

I'd imagine the regular Galaxy typically sells more than the note series just because normally the note is released around the same time as the iPhone.

I just don't want apple to rest and stay still just because of the brand. Even if there is no redesign they need to bring out something that makes it worth while to upgrade. Least with the Samsung phones they have some great features.

Yeah for two years time

That's if Apple are following the same cycle, I'm still unsure about all these rumours, it's possible that Apple have other things up their sleeve for the iPhone 7 that just haven't leaked yet. The iPhone 7s will probably be OLED with a few other features, the S models always have additional features, the 6S had 3D Touch, Live Photos, 12mp camera and 4K video.

I find it interesting that there are all these "leaks" for a presumed 2017 iPhone 8.

But there's going to be a 2016 iPhone 7, and aside from the removal of the headphone jack, we haven't had any leaks on that model, but at this point we should be seeing plenty of leaks.

Is it possible that the leaks for the 2017 iPhone 8 are in fact for the 2016 iPhone 7?

I remember half of the posters on here didn't believe in the 5.5 inch iPhone existed before the 2014 keynote, so we can't ever really be sure.

Good point. I didn't think a 5.5 plus was coming

Apple's biggest competitive advantage is are the common perceptions around Android/Touchwiz and being deeply tied to in the Apple ecosystem.

Android/Touchwiz has gotten better with every release, while the quality of iOS has deteriorated. IMHO, iOS is still superior, but the gap is MUCH smaller than before. Apple is much better at releasing software updates.

I think most people misjudge how deeply they are tied to the Apple ecosystem. I tried an Android table for fun and was surprised at how easily my music transferred over. 80% of my 'must have' apps were free and the total cost for 'paid' apps was less than $25. Most of data is kept app side, so almost all of my info was intact.

Yes, sure.

So I buy an iPhone pro, that won' t have other features, because there is no room in the small 4 inch iPhone .
Would be really happy about that... NOT!

You wouldn't be able to buy an iPhone pro, because there wouldn't be one. There would only be a iPhone mini, iPhone and iPhone plus. The plus can have an extra feature but would be nice if the 4" had everything that the 4.7" did, which is totally doable. All I am saying is Apple needs to streamline things alittle. I have seen customers walk out of the store with nothing but a headache trying to decide what size they won't and what features they will and will not get.

This is a very good point, I think people are going off what the reliable analyst Ming Chi Cho has been saying, and while he is usually reliable about leaks, it could be possible that Apple are indeed intending some of the "leaked" features for this years iPhone 7.

You are correct when saying many people didn't believe that Apple would announce/release a 5.5" iPhone, in fact I had an open mind and a couple of people said it would never happen in a million. So yes we could all be surprised come September and Apple announce the iPhone 7 with the "leaked" features.

IT is prettig naive to think there won' t be aan iPhone pro.
My guess is March/April 2017 with oled and an all glass design, launched with the 2 new iPad pro' s. But I could be wrong of course.
The point is: there will be an iPhone pro in the next 2 years. Plus will be just an iPhone with a bigger display and higher res.
Pro will be with a bigger display, more ram, upgraded soc, better camera(?), and other features and tech specs that are just not ready for the mass production in big numbers and have high manufacturing costs at that time.
A year later features of the pro will be released in the regular iPhone an iPhone + models.

The pro will be about $100 more expensive than a plus model, so we basically have to pay for the low yields and R&D costs, while Apple will maintain their margins.

The Pro or Plus model were the ones rumoured to be getting the dual camera feature for the iPhone 7. There have also been rumours about the iPhone 7 having the smart connector that is currently on the iPad Pro. If true then this certainly points towards an iPhone 7 Pro, maybe something we will see in September along with the 4.7" iPhone 7.

The next upgrade cycle for Apple is to get us to buy bigger and more expensive iPhones .
So the plus/pro has to be something special.

Bringing the SE to the mix, allows Apple to sell a little bit more iPhones.
The pro will be launched to raise the asp, that lowered because of the SE .

So a cheaper to compensate for sale numbers and a more expensive to compensate for asp/margins.

depending on what "pro" features are added i would consider it, the dual camera and 256GB would have me interested for a start. Also i wonder if Apple will add "pro" features in IOS 10 for the iPad Pro.

I hope they will release special pro features in iOS 10 as well. I guess they will.

It is one reason to differentiate the pro line-up and move to a more pro IOS, that is more flexible and open, allow for more multitasking operations, and (I hope) some kind of file management app.

Last year they announced multitasking, slide over and picture in picture, and even tho some people weren't impressed i think they are really nice features, i have the iPad Pro (12.9") and i use those features the most. I cant see Apple announcing IOS 10 and not adding at least 1 or 2 features that add more to Pro name. They usually talk about iPad features separate so assuming they do the same this year.

At the last couple of WWDC's Apple have announced features that have given hints to whats around the corner in terms of the iPad and iPhone (think multitasking).
Also this year Apple are hosting WWDC keynote at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium which is that VERY big building (seats 7,000 people) where Apple announced the iPhone 6s, unveiled the iPad Pro and the Apple TV 4, so it's possible they have something up their sleeve to show.

I'm in the unsure pile. I'm planning to upgrade this fall and torn between the Note 6 and the iPhone 7 (plus?). I think it's going to come down to features. The rumor mill is far more active on the Note 6 then it is on he iphone.

As for touchwiz there are ways around it. I use Aviate launcher on my Note 4.... I don't have to deal that much with touchwiz and where it does pop up I wouldn't notice it anyway.

From the sounds touchwiz is certainly improved so will see

I haven't used it as my main UI since my note 2... Might have to go back and try it again. Problem is that it's ridiculous to get updates to anything on Samsung. so even if it's better on the Note 5 or the S7, it's unlikely that We'll ever see it on the Note 4.

For all the talk of Samsung trying to better emulate Apple, I wish they'd get their software updates out as fast as Apple does...

Reports of possible waterproof phone for iPhone 7..hope it's true

Those rumours have been going around for a while now, not sure about it being true, it could be one of the reasons for taking away the headphone jack tho.

But somehow Samsung managed waterproof AND a headphone jack....

I did say it could be one of the reasons, not the sole reason. I think Apple want to remove it because it's an old technology and times change, they are known for changing technology, moving forward and making new ones, people complained when they removed the floppy disk (but it was for the best) people complained when they removed the disk drive (it was for the best) and people complained when they removed the 30 pin connector on the iPhone (but it was for the best).
No doubt people will complain if they remove the headphone jack but it will once again probably be for the best. I'm not going to judge it until Apple remove it and to see what Apple offer in its place.
