Doesn't seem like a blanket statement can be made for everyone. Some people seem to be experiencing some issues, others don't seem to be.

I just upgraded to 10.1 from 10.0.3. Previously before having 10.0.03 I did have a lot of issues. We will see how much better 10.0.03 is over 10.1 or the other way around.

Upgrading to 10.1 did not change my reception issues at all. This is the second iPhone 7 that I've had and both had severe reception handicaps vs. my old iPhone 6 and my wife's iPhone 6. I'm getting ready to give up and return the phone.

Only thing I have noticed is the lte signal is delicate. I put my phone in my pocket it will drop to 3G depending on the strength.

Count me in the bucket of having no issues with 10.0.3, but now they're back on 10.1. Not sure if it's Apple related or Verizon related.

10.1 and Verizon 26.1 has been bad for me... I never really have had a strong cellular performing OS versions, its all been shades of grey in terms of reliability and performance. Very commonly now I drop to 3G for no reason, also lots of stalled data connections even when displaying good LTE signal, I go to airplane mode and back and stuff starts flooding in.

Apple has stopped responding to me about the issue, I last sent an email 3 days ago to someone who I deal with from the executive team and they have not responded.

I wonder if this issue is affecting the 7 Plus more than the 7? My 7 has been flawless since I got it 2 weeks ago.

I think it's random. I had two iPhone 7s shortly after launch, both returned due to the IC noise issue. A couple of weeks later I realized I wasn't happy going back to the iPhone 6 and bought another iPhone 7. That one was totally deaf, and the one that Apple replaced it with is almost as deaf. I have a Genius Bar appointment tomorrow. I expect they'll exchange this one, and I hope that the replacement works like the first two did (in terms of RF sensitivity). If not...bah.

So I tested 10.0.3 and my phone is a complete POS. The thing is having a lot of issues with signal. It is back to do its drop LTE, go 1X, go to 3G, and sit on 3G until a airplane toggle. *sigh*

Could this have anything to do with mail settings? I do not have my mail set to push or fetch. All set to manual.

Count me among the users who've seen data connectivity issues reappear after updating from 10.0.3 to 10.1. I'm outside the United States at the moment, using a non-Verizon SIM, and since the update a lot of the same problems (albeit not quite as severe) have returned. It's frustrating because for the first part of my stay abroad, I was running 10.0.3 and had no problems at all. Now, with 10.1, we're back to data dropping down to 3G in areas where other iPhone users stay connected to 4G the entire time, losing the GPS for no apparent reason, etc., etc. I'm fairly convinced at this point that Apple just released a crappy phone and hasn't a clue how to properly troubleshoot it.

I'm not saying you're wrong at all, but my experience with 10.0.3 vs. 10.1 has been no change. But I strongly agree that at this point I, too, am coming to believe that the iPhone 7 is just a crappy design. Between the horrible cell reception issues and the noisy IC issues, I think the hardware is fundamentally flawed and I don't see Apple being able to fix this with in-line changes. I'm very frustrated because I would have been ok sticking with my iPhone 6 until next year, but I sold it last weekend.

This is bath!t crazy...went to Apple. They were very nice and willing to exchange the phone or whatever, but basically blame VZW (which may or may not be right). Bottom line: I got a five week return extension in writing. We'll see if Apple and VZW can work this out. It's totally unacceptable to have a deaf cellphone...obviously.

Did you put in an autocorrect ticket while you were there?

No - not sure what you're referring to...

Here's my report. Went to the Genius Bar and we ran through what was going on. The bottom line is that rather than exchange the phone yet again they gave me an extension of the return period to five weeks (in writing). I will wait and see if VZW and Apple can make some progress with this problem.

Here's the interesting thing, though. This phone and the one it replaced were sim-free phones and I was using sim cards from earlier phones. On my way out of the mall I stopped at a VZW store and got a new sim card (which is free). That has significantly improved the reception of this phone. It's not perfect, but it's much better.

So I would say that if you're having problems with VZW connectivity, it's worth trying a virgin sim card.

I have a sim free 7 plus and for the most part it's fine. If I'm in any rural area or even in a building where service is not good I have to shut off volte or I miss calls or drop them. Verizon doesn't seem to have a system to bounce between the two automatically. I have the same issue when leaving my house and I'm on the phone, wifi calling will just drop the call when I'm out of range.

I thought that if you were in VoLTE mode (voice and data), and the phone was in standby (waiting for a call), and there was only 3G (or lower) available that the call or text would come through. Am I mistaken?

Additionally, I thought the only time a call wound't work was if you were already on an active call, and lost LTE. In this case, I thought the call just dropped. I also thought you could initiate a 3G call if LTE wasn't available, even if your phone was set to LTE for voice and data?

Any clarification would be appreciated.

Maybe it's suppose to wait in standby like you said, but it doesn't. Low service areas just don't receive calls like when volte is off.

Not saying I'm wrong about what?

That 10.0.3 had fewer connectivity problems than 10.1. My experience has been that there isn't really a difference between them, but obviously you could be having better connectivity on 10.0.3. There are a lot of inconsistent results with this problem so I just wanted to clarify that I wasn't saying you were mistaken at all.
