ProCamera has an update in the app store... Dual camera shots with HEIC or RAW offer somewhat better quality
Simply amazing how far cell phone photography has come
8 Plus. What do think could have caused this blue ? artifact in the water in these two shots. No other artifacts in the rest of the bunch i took. Possibly taken in Portrait mode

Awesome shot... what artefacts are you talking about?
You see where the line goes down into the water on the righthand side of the boat- there’s a blue square in front of the line where it enters the water in both shots.... other photos of the boat don’t have it. I think its an artifact for some reason
That’s lens flare. You’re pointing directly towards the sun, it’s pretty much unavoidable.
It’s not an artifact. It’s lens flare as I mentioned a couple posts up. It’s a result of shooting into the sun.
Here’s an example

This was also shot into the sun.
Is that what it is! I’m relieved its not a flaw in the iPhone. Thanks for solvimg it for me.

Yes i can see what you mean. Sometimes its such a beautiful picture opportunity - no doubt I’ll probably take the chance again and shoot into the setting sun.
Yes I see, but what an awesome shot!
See the flares there.
Yep definitely lens flare and you can’t avoid it while pointing at the sun.
Here's a bunch of photo's that I just took, walking around our garden. I'm suitably impressed at the camera on the iPhone 8 plus, when it is controlled properly by a third party app!
I used an app called PureShot, which allowed me to use spot metering where I wanted to meter from in the images and also to choose where I wanted to focus in each image. It saved the images as RAW files, and they were very quickly edited in Lightroom. These are all single image exposures, no HDR, it's not really necessary when you work from a RAW file, unless there is a really big dynamic range present that you are trying to capture.
I like that in these first two images, the colours are not oversaturated or blown out, so there's detail all through them. Something that even DSLR's struggle with.
Sunny day here in Romania.
Went for a ride with my friends on the country side, took some moments to test the camera.
Damn this phone !
Howdy,I cannot wait to get my iPhone X and test its camera out since it is a better camera with dual OIS and a better aperture.
Wow. Simply amazing photos! Like I said in a previous post, I cannot wait to get my iPhone X and test its camera out since it is a better camera with dual OIS and a better aperture.
There a lot of apps that can clean up photos. Here's some clean ups I quickly did to remove the lens flares. I use Retouch. Is something like photoshop smart enough to get rid of it or do you have to do it manually?

That all depends on what you want to achieve with your photo's. You can just use the inbuilt camera app and get pretty good results, but it doesn't have a live histogram showing you if you may have blown-out highlights which can never be recovered, so you just end up with bits of your photo's that contain no detail at all. It also doesn't allow you to spot meter off of any section of the scene. It also won't allow you to shoot in RAW format, but if you do shoot in RAW you have to edit your images to bring them to life. The inbuilt camera does allow you to adjust the exposure by sliding your finger up or down on the screen, but it's pretty hit and miss as to its control. These shots are amazing! Is Pureshot really needed for photos like this? I’d prefer to not buy it and find out I don’t need it.
Zoom on any of these iPhone cameras will lack IQ/Sharpness. There is a thread on this related to the X right now.. here. Don't zoom with a tiny camera in a 'frame' less than half an inch and expect quality.. just is what it is. Try using non-zoom and cropping.. but will lose some IQ there as well but may have better luck. If this image is using zoom it actually isn't that bad. I have seen much worse. All this image needs is some dehire and kick the exposure down a notch. May be room for some contract and tad bit of saturation.Guess I'm pixel peeping too much... Just that photo quality on the 8 plus isn't worth it ... Or worth a print
I was lucky that the mobile shop in my country was willing to exchange it, but the quality is still washed out at 100% zoom
So that's 2 iPhone 7+, a 7 and 2 iPhone 8+ that take photos the same way

[doublepost=1511297547][/doublepost]As a practice...try having the light shining on your subject. In this image not only do you have the light coming from behind but you are also 'hiding' in the shadow.. tough shot for any camera.
