Nobody is using any excuse, but the fact remains all the proof that has been put forth has been dots shown at an EXTREMELY close range in photographs that have likely been tweaked to emphasize the problem. Given that some of us have only encountered 7-series phones without such an extreme dots issue, these photos are the only evidence we have of the problem.

this thread was not created to prove to other people that this issue exists... this thread was created for the people who do have the problem to find out a solution... if you dont believe this issue exists, then that is okay... but we shouldnt be wasting time posting photos for you to prove that we actually have this problem, we already know our phones look like this...

Actually, photos that clearly demonstrate the problem in contrast to other iPhones will only help your case, and provide awareness and resolution to the possible problem, which was my point in the first place.

In any case, I hope all of us find satisfactory resolution to all of our iPhone issues and complaints.

The only people who can fix our problem (right now) is Apple, and they have plenty of iPhones on hand that they can take a look at if they dont believe us... We are trying to find out what is causing the phones to do this (software or hardware) in order to find out if there is hope for our phones to be fixed or if we should return them...

therefore, the close range photos are best because they show the clearest shots of what the issue is, to better analyze what is going on with the screen..

the far away shots comparing phones are only to prove to people who dont believe us (for a reason i dont understand) that our phones look this way

Proving the problem to people who don't have it is precisely what I think you'd want to be doing. Apple is not going to deal with the problem unless it they see it as one. If the majority of the people out there don't see the dots as problematic, it is not in Apple's best interests to announce a recall/formally address an issue/what have you.

This is why phoneorpda has been travelling to numerous sites to try to garner wider attention to the issue -- it can only help those affected when the problem is plainly laid out, without question, for everyone to see. Furthermore, more people looking into the problem will also aid in discovering what could possibly be causing the issue. It's easy to discount the close up pictures for reasons that have been stated above in this thread, and on HF, etc.

In any case, I hope you get your problem resolved.

I have two iPhones, one 5**** and one 7****. Here are some comparison photos I took of them side by side this morning - all pictures were taken with brightness set at 50% and auto-brightness on. I really dont have any issue with the dots, just the extreme difference in contrast.

Brightness screen:

You can tell which version you have (5 or 7) just by looking at the main phone screen. The 5**** is the one with the really bright white stripe through the clock and the 7**** is the one with the more dark one.

Those are some interesting photos. So which one do you prefer? The 5**** screen seems to not have as good shading characteristics on that home screen. That white bar on the home screen really stands out to me vs. the 7**** screen which seems to blend better and be darker and more saturated in general. But all that might just be the way the picture was taken and relative brightness of the two screens.

I agree with you, I believe that both have positives and negatives. The 5*** has much more contrast regardless the brightness level (0-100), the whites are super bright and the darks not quite as dark. The 7*** does seem to blend better throughout all applications and menus, just overall not as bright - kind of tinted.

Here is another picture I just took - the phone in the grey case is the bright one (5****) the brightness is at 50% and the phone in the black case is the dark one with the brightness up to 100%.

Putting the brightness at 100% on the "dark" 7**** almost matches the other (5****). If they would put an option in to adjust contrast I think you could get them to look the same.

Have you noticed that the 5* is slightly blue and whites slightly bluish? And on the 7* screen, whites are slightly reddish and overall everything, especially the grays that are used throughout the iPhone, is yellowish?

You can kind of tell from your pictures that one screen is yellowish and the other bluish, especially with the middle picture that's linked.

I like the bluish colors but not the bluish whites on the 5*, but much prefer it to the yellow grays with the 7* screen.

I never thought I'd say it, but after seeing those pictures, I feel a little better about my 7***** series rather than having a 5***** because at least from those pictures, the 5***** looks brighter but more washed out.

Yeah I have noticed the blueness on the 5***. When held side by side it makes the 7**** look like it has a bit of a dark tint. Probably the perfect contrast is somewhere between both, I think it would help if we were able to adjust the contrast, then we could at least give the 7***'s some more contrast and the 5*** a bit less.

I totally agree with that statement IF you don't have the white dot problem. I think the white dot problem tends to make the 7***** more washed out since the blacks all of the sudden look gray.

Looks like the holy grail of screens is a 7**** with no white dots!

I am torn between both, I just pray for a contrast slider someday!

That's from a camera, it will be different when see it in person.

The 7*** is darker, does it have longer battery life?

So I have a 7455232 LCD and I think there are two little bubbles on my glass.

I'll have to take pictures tonight. They're either bubbles or dust ... but they are definitely not on the outside of the screen. I can't clean them off. :(

I do see the dots, though. Apple replacing white dotted screens?

Both of the iPhones get pretty much the same battery life, if anything its unnoticeable because its so minimal. Normally both are always at 50% brightness with auto-bright on.

sounds like 5*** is better??

The 5*** is brighter and has more contrast then the 7**** regardless of the brightness setting. The 7*** blends the colors better since the contrast isnt up so high, and seems to me to have better dark colors. Its all up to you :)

can we get a pick of the fully charged green battery on both models? i want to see if the 5-series has the ugly bubble around the icon (as noted earlier)...

Sure I'll charge them and post new pictures later tonight... I actually tested this for a thread a while ago on everythingiphone,

Here is a link to my old pic: http://img412.imageshack.us/img412/8030/batterychargingdifferenrn2.jpg (The 5**** is the one without the case).

here's a post from a different forum:

I have been following this story as it has gone along and I decided to see for myself what everyone was talking about. I went to the apple store today and I just got home. Here is what I found out.

With 3(1 mac genius) apple employees by me, we took two 5* iPhones that they had on display and two 7* iPhone(one which is mine) and put them together. On the 7* both showed the grid that everyone is talking about. The grid is not seeable when you do a hard restart on all 4 phones and is only noticeable about half way through the boot up process(this has been previously stated). After messing around with all 4 phones for well over 45 minutes, there is no doubt that the 7* screen has better colors, contrast, more vivid colors. The only benefit from what all 4 of us saw with the 5* screen was no small white dots. These small white dots on my phone can only be seen when the brightness is turned above 75% give or take a couple percentage points. On the other one, you can see them till around 60% give or take. For those of you that have a 7* LCD screen do not panic. For what you see of the grid you are making up 10 fold with colors displayed along with not having a washed out screen. All 4 of us also believe that this is a software issue that has to do with the calibration of the phone. So everyone DON'T PANIC no madder what phone you have. Send your requests to apple in regards to the matter, but do not think that your 7* is inferior to the 5* as no one with the 5* should feel inferior to the 7*.

everyone is saying that the 7-series is more contrasty and has more colors, but looking at those pics, the 7-series looks dull...

also, everyone says that 5-series is washed out, my 7-series has the washed out battery icon... why are people saying that the 5-series is more contrasty?

The 5*** is the bright one with the more contrast, the 7*** is the darker one.
