The only surprising thing is it has the same battery life as iPhone 8.
Wow, that’s really surprising. The SE has no 3D touch and a better chip, but has the same battery life? That seems very strange. The SE and 8 have the exact same dimensions as well, it’s not like they had to cut the battery over size concerns, right?

I'm surprised (whilst we are on this topic) that A8 vs A13 is pretty much same battery life and for example in audio I get 10 hours less (50 vs 40 between SE and 6).
So 5 generations jump and battery life is pretty much the same? For video I do get extra 2 hours but overall iPhone 6 vs SE is pretty much equal. Is the battery in SE (or 8 for this matter) smaller vs 6?

Purchasing for my family member to replace the aging/malfunctioning 6s Plus, really didn't spent much time into rumors...
OK now the 128G new SE model is 15 USD cheaper than my XR 64G deal. Gotta check their specs and spend the night sleepless now~

Hubby wants this as he wants a phone the same size as his 6S. I was going to buy the 11 for me as I have the 6S+ but tbh I can’t justify an extra £300 + for a bigger phone so I will get one of these too.

I thought calling it 9 would be better. The name is sitting there unused and it’s an advancement from the 8.

That would be like Toyota announcing a 2018 vehicle today.

It makes no marketing sense and immediately dates the product as being at least two generations old.

Ok from various posts on Twitter, on here, on Reddit I'll try to add some information so that people aren't asking the same questions:

Battery
Battery looks to be the same size, or smaller than the 8 but with the A13 processor so it is going to give similar battery life, however it's worth noting that this device was optimised to run the latest iOS. So for the older devices that have seen battery life decrease with updates, it will still likely be a big improvement for them and adequate for most people.
It will not come with an 18w fast charger, although it will be supported.

Camera
It would appear that the setup is the same as that of the XR (sort of, see below). However, with the advances that the A13 brought, computational photography from this device should be improved from that found on the XR.
There is no night mode, however this could be added in the future if Apple allow it with a software update, or maybe a version of it for this device that is still useful but perhaps not as advanced as the current flagships from that time.
It will only allow portrait mode of people, the same as the XR. That is for both front and rear camera. Again, the portrait mode should be further improved upon from that found on the XR.

Rene Ritchie has said in his video, where I am guessing he's been provided some information from Apple, that it's actually the 11 main lens, but with a few disadvantages such as night mode is missing, but the other areas should be really detailed and sharp with the A13 chip and the lens fitted.

Apps such as Neural Cam will also aid night shots for anyone interested who's not used the app in the past. It's not as good as Apple's night photography - but it's as close as anyone has got building an app.

Bezels
I still see people asking, but all bezels for this device are black. The white front is no longer an option, and I think this gives the device a cleaner look, reduces production costs, aids repair availability etc.

Prices
Those of us in the UK complaining that the exchange rate is giving us a really bad deal, it's worth remembering that the US price does not include sales tax.

Cases
Apple have three new cases available for the new SE. They are available to buy now in the Apple Store.
All existing Apple cases from the 7 and 8 will also fit the new device, no word yet on the Battery case however I cannot see any reason it won't work or fit.

Dual Sim
Yes, it has dual sim, although like the other iPhones that have it, the second sim is an e-sim option. But still, another unexpected feature.

Modem
Obviously this will be confirmed or shot down once the device strip downs take place, but it's looking more likely that the modem on the new SE is an Intel chip. It does however support WiFi 6 4G LTE advanced, an advantage to those with an older device.

It is all available on Apple's website, they all have black bezels. One assembly line, reducing costs further, increasing availability and easier for repairs in the future.
Well well well. Lookee lookee here. I was right. You were wrong. Sorry Charlie 😆

So they’re calling it the SE, which originally came out in 2016. Ok, makes a lot more sense

Who's Charlie?

If you mean me, I've never said it would have the white bezels.
Charlie is a generic name for “dude” “man” etc slang from back in the 1960’s. It was also the name us soldiers used for the Viet kong back in that war. Anyway if you scroll back a few pages I was referring to our discussion on which cameras it will have. This was last night before the launch. I said the XR cameras because of the price and you said it had to to have the 11s because it would be a PR Nightmare.

Looks like a stellar device at a great price.

I hope they hit the pay-as-you-go market in Best Buys sooner rather than later like the previous SEs did so I can pick one up for ~$150

Hardly anyone will confuse the old SE with the new SE because only one product is available for sale. Once you introduce a number, it immediately dates the product. It's also similar to the iPad naming strategy.

Probably not for another 2 years. Sounds like you have more time than money. 😀

So therefor I'm not wrong then... It basically has the 11 main lens, just without the night sight and auto adjustments. If you'd had read what I wrote, I said it had a hybrid lens - information from Rene Ritchie, and basing it on Apple's own website. It's a better camera than the XR is.

I don't really care if what I wrote was right/wrong, I'm not a leaker or anything. Just enjoying the new phone launch stuck at home like thousands of others. Just glad it finally arrived with decent specs! :)
