so really not a worthwhile upgrade if you ask me, most of hardware is same as iPhone Xr but no Animoji * * Memoji for this iPhone SE (2020), so sad.View attachment 906722
That’s funny. I don’t care about that but seems a pointless deletion. Alot of these phones would likely sell to a younger crowds with less disposable income, and they’d be the most likely to want that feature.
I believe only the back camera is from the XR, with the rest of the internals being from the 11. The externals are from the 8, including Touch ID rather than Face ID, which is why it can’t have Animoji. Not sure how Memoji works.

You do realize the Animoji/Memoji Part requires a Face ID/TrueDepth Camera Right, obviously SE doesn’t have FaceID but it doesn’t have a trudepth front camera

Though you can create custom Memoji which requires the A9 or later

The whole point of keeping the old internals is to cut down on price, giving it a twist will place it as expensive as the rest of the line up and it would defeat the whole purpose.

Look at the original SE, it sold fairly well and that was based on an old design. Some consumers are stubborn and prefer to stick to the older designs, I know a lot of people still with 6/6s/7’s who this would be perfect for.

im stubborn to like fugly design, the hideous notch. so.. im still using my 6s+.

new design doesnt mean the design is better than the old one. the new batman ear notch desing looks ridiculou and looking as it belongs to robin to reach batman.

The notch takes 60 seconds to get used to.

I have cases ordered for this, but I'm still debating. the only reason I may hold off is the new low end 12 coming out. If it gets the new design, that may sway me. Still, aside from night mode, there's no feature on the higher end phones that I miss with the SE... so then it comes down is the night mode worth the extra $300 to me? (battery wise would matter but i'm fine using a battery case for the times I'm out and about all day).

$300 seems a high price for night mode. Although you’d get some other features, of course.

If you have no need for features exclusive to the notched phones (Animoji, Memoji and Face ID) and don't mind or even prefer the home button/Touch ID and smaller 16:9 aspect radio display then it's not worth spending the extra $300 USD for the night mode. An extra $50 maybe, but $300 is quite excessive.

This device is not exciting At all. I mean the price and the internals are good but same battery life as the iPhone 8? That's a let down.
This! I will certainly wait for the battery test but on paper it’s already disappointing. What did they do to the freed up space from the 3D touch? Nada?

I'm holding off for the 5.4" iPhone 12 and see how that turns out before deciding between it and the new SE. I love my OG SE but I want a bigger screen and better camera now.

Hopefully the 5.4" iPhone 12 Canadian pricing isn't too crazy. The new SE is $699 Canadian for 64 GB, that's just legal robbery.

Been lucky to get in on the Walmart $200 cash discount deal with AT&T/Verizon here in the US.

At $249 for 128GB, will just pay it off and get the iPhone 12 if I like what's announced and finances/economic outlook still permit the purchase.

what are you moving over from?

How was it a mistake? Did that somehow affect Apple sales or the success of the iPhone with Face ID moving forward? Technology is always evolving, touch ID isn’t necessarily ‘dead’ per se, but in terms of superiority with biometric security, touch ID doesn’t touch it.
I didn't buy a new iPhone specifically because no touch ID is a deal breaker. Others are with me, So, yeah it did. The new SE is literally the phone I've been waiting for.

I do not think FaceID is a bad idea, but I don't think it should be the only one. New iPhones going forward should have both.

I know there’s bigger issues to be upset about in this world but using the iPhone 8 as the next SE model is ridiculous and lazy. Why even sell a SE model when the 8 is still available? This is so Apple to just use what they have and rename it. It’s a slap in the face to all SE owners especially those waiting to upgrade. Wow.

One reason: A13 chip. Good for 6+ years

Just wanted to add, I heavily value security, but the selling point of Face ID being more secure than Touch ID has never held any weight for me, because Touch ID already seems over-the-top secure. To me it’s just a bigger astronomical number compared to an already astronomical number. Unless Touch ID is proven to be realistically vulnerable, I just don’t see the real world value of outdoing it.
In other words, if Apple came out year after year with a better security biometric than the last, do we just automatically hand over our money? After a certain point of realistic security, it has to be just numbers for numbers’ sake.

It’s similar to screen resolution. Higher is better, but at a certain point, it’s just a number that makes no actual difference, except that it costs more.

On the new iPhone SE, can you wake the screen by tapping on the screen or do you need to press Home or power button?
