Yes. 5 years ago I would have said no, but every single Apple product I've purchased since then has needed repairs. Case in point --
I bought a used, 9 month old, 64GB iPhone 5s from someone who took excellent care of it, it was like new, and it came with 3 cases. About a month after I had it (and a month before its original 1 year warranty expired), the flash stopped working. So I took it to an Apple Store and they replaced it with a brand new 5s. I would have bought Apple Care for it at that point, but it wasn't eligible anymore, due to the original purchase date. So I thought I was in good shape. About a year later, an iOS update came out that killed my TouchID. Apple confirmed that's what happened, due to previously undetected defects, but claimed the phone was out of warranty because the original purchase date was over a year old. I explained that this was a brand new phone, and should be covered under the same 1year warranty. The stuck with the technicality. They offered to repair it for $250. Fortunately the SE came out a month later, so I upgraded instead, and bought Apple Care. But that was two new iPhones that failed within a year.
Last year, I bought a new 2012 MacBookPro and 3 months later, the front display glass started to fall out of the lid.
Bottom line, Apple products for me have been dropping in build quality and reliability. Now I may have just been having a streak of bad luck, and you may have better luck, but Apple Care is insurance, and you either roll the dice or you don't. It also offers a few other perks such as inexpensive glass replacements if you break it, and much better treatment at the Genius Bar, and on the phone, despite what they will tell you.
