Applied on the 10th, and mine was done a few weeks ago. Surname begins with a T, just to further blow that theory away. There must be some kind of pattern, surely...

Update to post #271 above:

It doesn't look like my iPhone's unlocked. It activated exactly the same way as always does on a restore or upgrade.

The text probably applies to my original 16 GB 3G model. It took a few days exchanging emails with customer service to get my current IMEI passed to the unlocking team. I expect I'll get another text in 3-4 days regarding my 3GS.

This makes no sense at all. It's only been 10 days since the 10th. How can yours have been done "a few weeks ago"? What's the date on your text?

They have just unlocked me....

I filled in the forms with my old 3G details but use that sim in my 3GS... wonder if i can try and see if they will unlock my 3GS now with the same number....?!!

(The wife uses my 3G now btw)

Perhaps O2 customers who had a 9 month battle over an iPhone account which was fraudulently opened using their details are unlocked last.

That's me by the way...

does This Mean I Can Buy Handset From 02 Unlocked
And Then Use My 3 Sim Using My 3 Contract?

O2's rules state if you get an iPhone on contract you can unlock it at anytime but you are still bound by the terms of the contract. With a PAYG iPhone you have to wait a minimum of 12 months before you can unlock and there's also a £15 fee.

Unless you're on a 3G contract, and got a PAYG 3GS handset. In which case, you can unlock the 3GS. You'd still have a little bit left on contract (up to end of this month/Christmas at least).

Yes, but the question was if they could buy an unlocked iPhone from O2 and use it with their 3 (the phone company) contract, suggesting they are not current O2 customers. ;)

Don't worry, he's gone off on a tangent and it doesn't apply to you.

my brother has been upgraded to 3GS with his work contract so hopefully they will unlock his 3G so I can use it.

Anyone had any experience with t-mobile solo contract, I'm with them anyway, but I can upgrade to the £20 month, 600mins, unlimited texts and internet but its only 1GB month, will that be enough? I envisage only using the internet occasionally as I am generally in wireless settings.

I requested my unlock on the 10th. Still no sms.

How many people have requested the unlock and received the sms?

It's 14 days, but still you would think that by now it would be done.

I got my first one after 12 days. But I then did an older iPhone and it came back within 3 days. Perhaps try to resubmit?

In fact the 14 days expires on Monday at midnight, however I agree with you it is either total incompetence or alternatively, O2 are just unlocking those users who are still tied to them by contract and everyone else will probably get their sms at 23:59 on Monday :)

I'm still in contract, another theory blown. :D

I received my response today after 8 days.

It was unsuccessful but I am not sure if it is because I didn't have £15 credit on my top-up or because I recently bought the phone.

I am going to try again once I top-up.

Well I have finally had a reply from O2 - they have refused to unlock my iPhone!:mad: Most likely because the iPhone was originally not owned by me, so now I am going to have to get the original owner to fill the form out :(

Liam

I initially received the "we cannot unlock your phone" text, about 7 days after filling out the form.

I then, resubmitted a form with (I think!) identical details, and about 5 hours later, the unlock came through.

Unlock is an easy process, even with a Jailbroken phone. Only issue arose as the new SIM I ordered from Orange had an activation problem, but that was sorted out after a quick call to Orange, and had nothing to do with the iPhone.

I requested on the 9th and again a few days ago. Not a cheap. Groan.

Requested mine on the 9th and got the text about an hour ago.

3G Pay Monthly owner that upgraded to the (PAYG) 3Gs in June.

Will try another sim in it when I get home.
