I love mine, but will be happy when/if they release a larger screen version. And I really hope they somehow enable FaceID to work with the phone in Landsape. Oh, and remove the camera bump already;).

Great point about camera bump. I always forget that as a dislike about iPhones. Clearly a sign that I have just accepted it over time. But when I think about it, flush with the back is not a good situation either because of scratching concerns. My back usually gets scratched all to hell. While I’m not to concerned with the back, that would be very bad practically on the lens cover. The little protrusion keeps the lens cover from scratching in the middle. I think the only thing they can do is have the lens slightly recessed. But that would probably lose significant millimeters doing that. I would love it, but not sure it’s physically possible.

No you just like to buy outdated hardware, it's technology is actually more than 2 years old.

Life's too short to be using 2 yr old hardware.

I wouldn’t say I prefer to buy older models but do so to save money. My iPhone 6S is just over a year old (released 2 years ago) but is still performing pretty well. I’m getting the iPhone experience without paying over a grand for a phone and that sits better with me.

If having the latest and greatest at any cost improves the quality of life for you and others, then that’s great. My priorities are different with smartphones.

The X's camera (and overall performance -think speed executing commands including loading web pages) is far better than my 6 Plus. Not a lot of difference (camera and display screen quality only) compared to an 8 Plus which I only kept for a week but still enough difference to spend a few hundred more considering I keep phones for two years minimum before buying a new one.
I compared the 2x camera on the X against 8 Plus and 7 Plus. I could see little difference in performance between 7 Plus and 8 Plus - but the 2x camera (which I use the most) on the X was far better. Noticeably clearer images with less pixelation - that was the main reason I upgraded to the the X

Thanks to the X i look back at the earlier iPhones as if they were iPods and Powerbooks, relics from the glorious past but relics.

The 8 and 8 Plus really don't give up much to the X, and in some uses they're ahead. If you think of them as alternate roads, though, it's fairly clear that the 8/8 Plus are the end of one road, while the X is the beginning of a different road. Apple is going down the path marked by the X.

Never upgrading?

Wishing they would just allow swiping apps up to close them instead on press and hold and press the x
Definitely would like to have this. I often swipe up in the switcher thinking it will close the app, only to end up back at the home screen.

I believe you and @dominiongamma might not know that if you swipe and hold and then hold the app in your app switcher, you can swipe up to close them as you would before. You just cant swipe from the bottom of the screen anymore.

Edge to edge screen and no home button / gesture UI makes it a different experience for me. Easily the biggest change since the original iPhone. I enjoy using this phone more than any besides the original.
Me too.... and the original was a game-changer for me.

Another thing is speed. It just feels like I am not waiting on it, as I did with my last two phones (LG V20 and iPhone 6S+). Sure, it is easy to argue that a second here or there is no big thing. But in practice it is annoying. I could have that speed in an 8+, but I just could not buy that phone, even at a much better price than an X (lower starting price combined with deals, such as Sam's Club's $250 gift card with iPhone purchase). For me it was either an X or Note 8. It was a close call, but the X won (wanted Apple Watch w LTE). I have not regretted buying it at all.

You are correct, I didn't know this! I still would prefer not to have to tap-then-hold, but it's better than having to use the x button. Thanks!

Great review :).. Curious what you mean by too heavy? What phone did you come from?

Let's hope he says a Plus. Compared to the 8 and the 8 Plus, the X is about an ounce heavier than the 8 and about an ounce lighter than the 8 Plus, allowing for a little (very little) rounding. The X definitely FEELS dense compared to a standard size iPhone. I haven't found that a disadvantage, though.

I'm definitely having some issues with FaceID. Minor, but still a little annoying. I wear glasses most of the time, except when almost asleep in bed. With some fiddling and training of the FaceID, I can usually get the phone to recognise me without glasses when I'm sitting up (perhaps 80-90% of the time). When my head is on the pillow, no chance. The phone is probably close to 100% in recognising me with glasses.

Honestly, I don't mind the phone - I only picked it up because my work-provided iPhone 7 was too limited in storage (32GB) for me but I definitely don't consider the X to be $1000 worth of upgrade. The larger screen size is nice, but otherwise, feels like the same old iOS. That said, I still prefer TouchID over FaceID by a significant factor. TouchID pretty much always worked for me, whereas FaceID is hitting around 50% success for me so in hindsight, I should really have picked up an 8 Plus.

I love my iphone X so much. I do find the face ID to be a bit of a pain, 1/2 the time it doesn't work and I have to cancel and try again. I have thought about disabling it as I pretty much never leave my house. I just now disabled require attention for face ID. Not sure if this is a bad move but like I said I am pretty much always home

Totally agree. I do the same thing. Not sure why apple could not include the gesture to swipe up to delete as long as you were swiping up on the app. Swipe up from the bottom, return home. Swipe up while on an app to close that app. Or how about once you enter multi-tasking, have the minus button activate automatically?

I'm fairly certain I will NOT buy a larger version of iPhone X. I will likely stick with the current design. It's a really nice screen size.

That will no doubt be the big debate next year. I do like the form factor, slipping it in my pocket when it easier, using belt case when it makes more sense. But I do miss the 7+ screen size.

Oh well I’m sure there will be lots of “experts” here next year telling us that they and they alone are right either way and everyone else is wrong. ;)

wish i bought the iphone 8
wife has the 8 plus and it's a better phone in some ways

it's still overall the better package, especially the camera, but it's not worth the $300 premium. I do also think home button>face ID and gestures.

I feel I flushed $300 down the drain by buying this phone, when I couldve bought an 8 instead and still do everything I wanted to do on a phone, for the next 2 years. It's not like the $300 i spent extends the life of the phone by another year.. nor does it allow me to do more than I could vs. the iPhone 8.

Design-wise, I don't think iPhone 8 owners are missing out on much. The screen is 'better', but not leaps and bounds better, I actually really like the RGB config on the IPS LCD of the 8 plus.

The construction is 'better', but the 7000 series aluminium frame is also pleasant.

A Month later and I’m still loving it. I do miss my 7plus matte black bc that was such a nice look (been missing that since the 5) but this white silver combo is pretty incredible.

Face ID...Sure, it’s not perfect for moments when My hand is covering my mouth for whatever reason (say mid yawn lol) overall, I find the experience quick and super useful than touch ID. Gestures on this feels very natural and I love being able to swipe sideways to go between apps currently using.

And that screen? <3

No regrets.

I have it a little less than month and still love it. The only thing i dont like is weight, its too heavy for its size, it even feels like its heavier than iphone 7 plus.
Phone is not very comfortable to carry when you wear a suit ( i carry my phones in pants pocket).
I'm sure they could make it lighter, probably saved it for iphone x 2018.

And face id is totally fine with me, but apple pay was more convenient with touch id.

I should have mentioned that i have original apple leather case, when not in case phone is obviously lighter.

I'm beginning to wonder if my face id has something against fat ugly people. it shudders when I look at it and refuses to open. all you people who have no issues, do you look like George Clooney? I look like Hagrids left testicle after a hard night drinking and no matter how many times I reset face id, it doesn't work as well as others are making out.

Don't get me wrong it does work sometimes, not if I'm lying down. guess it cant differentiate between the folds of my neck and cheeks. The screen is ok, doesn't pop as much as I was hoping for. but for me the best part of the phone is also the worst... face id. I love how it doesn't show notifications until I look at it, but as stated above its too hit and miss.

ROTFL. It learns (at least so they say), stick with it ;).

I've had my X for all of 14 hours now. Coming from a 6+, there is a learning curve for some of the usage semantics, but that's not too bad once you get the hang of it. I got a 6+ because it had the best camera for that time, and I got the X for the same reason. I hardly ever use the phone to make calls, oddly enough. I text like crazy and take all kinds of pictures, and of course, surf the web and use some favorite apps. That experience is very similar on the X as it was with the 6+, though the camera is so much better. But I really like the size of the phone. A bigger screen in a smaller form factor? What's not to like? The 6+ was always a little too big for my pockets. The X is perfect. And the weight is great. I don't know why people say it's too heavy. To each their own, I guess.

The only thing I worry about with the X is its durability. It has amazing features, but they won't matter if this device is fragile. I got an Apple leather case for it, which will protect from scratches but not much else. I had one for my 6+, too, and the phone still looked brand new when I traded it in. I'll just have to be careful with it. But so far, even with my very limited experience with it, I like it. And the first thing I did with it was text a really obnoxious animoji to a friend. I will never grow up.

At first I didn't plan to buy it due to the hefty price tag, but being a tech enthusiast and an early adopter I eventually caved. I love the phone, however I don't think the price will ever sit right with me.

FaceID - Mine works pretty much perfectly, loved TouchID but I have no issues with the change.

Screen - Excellent. Bright and vibrant, and you don't have less screen because of the notch, you have more. Rather than a thicker border along the top of the phone and less screen, they pushed the screen up to the edges either side and only made the border thicker for the camera and earpiece.

Camera - Just came back from a Christmas trip to Prague. The iPhone X was my only camera, left my DSLR at home for the first time ever. Really happy with the results.

Animoji - Honestly I think this gimmick is crap, but its not bad as a very limited tech demo.

HomeButton (lack of) - Haven't missed it. Took to the new gestures immediately and now I find myself trying to use them on my work SE which is embarrassing. Find it odd that some people struggled to adjust.

Also, I use mine exclusively with AirPods. It just feels right. For some reason I feel like they were designed to be together (even though they weren't), but they make a superb combination. Feels like the future :)

My stance is am standing by it:D, looking forward to the bigger X2. Am currently getting a buzz literally off my AW3;), the X is getting left out of the fun. Long & short I still like the X
